I once planted lungwort under a Hemlock tree.

Don't know why BBC didn't find that newsworthy.

I did.

"Surgeon Vladimir Kamashev said he was astonished, but botanist Olga Baranova was sceptical."

Man there are skeptics everywhere. I thought they were banned in Russia. Or is it here? I am not sure anymore.

Color me skeptical, too. I don't know how the needles would turn green in the absence of sunlight.

Meade, you'll be happy to know that pulmonaria is hardy up here.

Thanks, peter. And thanks for those websites you linked to, and for all your northern hospitality.

Klemm's Songsparrow farm has a nice raspberry-colored pulmonaria. (I really like their catalog!) We have too much sun for it in my yard, though.

Had that tree been cut in NY and not replaced they would be in violation of the New York State Environmental Protection laws.

I'm sure a judge could have been persuaded that the tree was a danger to the human... but those things take time sometimes ;)

To cut a tree in NY you have to have permits, to get permits you need a hearing.. to get a hearing you have to submitt an environmental impact study, the impact study needs a design to calculate what will the impacting who and so on..

We had to act your honor.

I loved the link beneath the story to a different video, I hope, "Celebration of Transplant Success." Trust Russian doctors to blunder in and mess it all up!

Didn't President Reagan say once that trees pollute the air?

Meade -- one disadvantage of lungwort in your situation is that dogs just adore the stuff. They can (and will) eat it back to a nub.

And why behold you the mote that is in your brother's eye, but consider not the tree that is in your own lung?Matthew 7:3.5
