I brought doughnuts:
(When I started to add the "doughnuts" tag, Blogger tried to autocomplete that to "douchebags." That can only happen because I actually do already have a "douchebags" tag. At my age!)

Happy birthday (if belated, I notice)!
Happy birthday!
You, a law professor!
Happy Birthday, as well.
Happy Birthday, Ann!!!
I've got good news today, too!
It's a fine day all around. Happy Birthday!
It's not belated, Simon. Today is my birthday.
Sometimes a good doughnut hits the spot. Happy Birthday - and thanks for the treats.
Here's the comment where I wish you Happy Birthday!
Now can I have one of the fritters?
Oh! Ha. Red-faced. I had it down as the 11th for some reason.
"douchebags"
Thanks, but all of a sudden I"m just not that hungry.
No, no they look delicious.
You have them.
It's your birthday.
Happy Birthday. May you be appreciated even more than usual today.
Guys ignore birthdays, left to their own wishes.
Women remind them. It's some mysterious chromosome in action. Someday they discover the birthday protein.
Happy Birthday! Best to your for a wonderful year.
PS-Mine's 1/20. The government is giving me a new president!
I’ll bet you dollars to douchebags you’ll have a happy birthday.
And many more!
@rh: Write it down. I'm warning you. You don't want to need to be reminded. One year she may test you and your entire future happiness may depend on passing that test.
Happy Birthday, Prof. Althouse!
Happy Birthday Althouse!
If nobody is going to take the maple glazed douchbag, I'll have that one thanks.
A fried piece of dough, covered in sugar glaze tastes good whatever it is called.
Happy Birthday, my favorite Althouse! Is the coconut doughnut the symbol of the Bush-Obama transition? And if that's a Red Velvet doughnut(!)...it's mine!
Oh, that we could put Flash in comments...
Happy birthday! 39 already!?
I married a girl who has the same birthday as Elvis, and I married her on St. Patrick's Day, so the memory thing is easy.
Happy, happy birthday, Althouse. I celebrate my birthday season, so if a week from now you feel like you need to give yourself another little treat, there's precedence for that.
Happy Birthday, indeed! You are in great company, as I'm sure you know. Other birthdays today:
Kirstie Alley (58)
Sporty Spice (35)
Heather Mills (41)
Rob Zombie (44)
Oliver Platt (49)
Christiane Amanpour (51)
Howard Stern (55)
Rush Limbaugh (58)
Wayne Wang (60)
Hope you have a wonderful birthday, Althouse.
Voila! This is why I relate to you so easily! My wife is also a Phd college professor born on Jan. 12,1951. So like I told Mrs. Traditional, thanks for another great year.
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday, Ann! I'm a frequent reader but infrequent commenter, but it continues to be a pleasure.
BTW, I think we all need a douchebags tag, for the clasification of such.
Happy Birthday Professor. And many more.
And you don't need a douche bag tag. Just put the commenters names in and let you readers decide.
Happy birthday! The digital age is a great time to be alive, isn't it? Many of the women in my family share birthdays (the day, not the year) with the great 20th-century losers. My grandmother's birthday doesn't roll around without me thinking, "Today is Hitler's birthday." Two days later on my other's grandmother's birthday, "It's Lenin's birthday." My mother and Mussolini. For me, it's Mao.
Happy Birthday kid!
You say it's your birthday?
A very "Happy Birthday"
Take a cha-cha-cha chance.
Happy B-day, Prof. A.
Instead of a picture of doughnuts, would you like a picture of Black Forest Torte?

I think you're a nice lady with a first rate sense of humor. I wish you a happy birthday and many more years of cranky insights into the nature of life and politics as they pass by.
Happy birthday & Many more! Today is my mother's birthday too.
Today I got the (bad) news that I need a tooth extraction (and eventual implant) and I am remembering you wrote about having one a few years ago...hope it wasn't too bad.
Beth: I knew an elderly man when I was a kid who always celebrated not just his birthday, but his birthday month.
There is something off about wishing Happy Birthday to the baby. Shouldn't the mother be honored with a Happy Birthday on the anniversary of her child's birth.
The baby didn't do a damn thing. What was she going to do, stay in there?
The mother at least could have aborted the kid but no she decided to let the little ingrate get born.
At best all the unborn can do is try to end it all by a little autoasphyxiation with the umbilical cord.
Happy Birthday anyway.
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday, Althouse!
Happy Birthday!
~~and many more~~
o/~~~Happy birthday to you.
Happy B-day!!!!
Hopefully your liberal town has shops that sell designer doughnuts, rather than those pictured, for your special day.
You deserve it, and much more!
How did I miss that this morning? Well, Happy Birthday, and I'll just have a plain doughnut with my late afternoon cup of coffee.
(The doughnuts were always great at the old Doughnut Factory on Regent Street, hot and fresh round midnight. Mmmm...)
Happy birthday! Thanks for all the beauty, brilliance, and great conversation. This is a wonderfully pleasant corner of the Internet.
Hippo birdies two ewes.
From Walt Kelly hisself:
"Once you were two, dear birthday friend,
In spite of purple weather.
But now you are three and near the end
As we grew some together.
How fourthful thou, forsooth for you,
For soon you will be more.
But 'fore one can be three be two;
Before be five be four."
Happy Birthday, Althouse!
A cake, in case the doughnuts run out.
This is a wonderfully pleasant corner of the Internet.
Eat Me, Hector!!
I'm a doughnut.
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday dear Professor Althouse
Happy birthday to you
How old are you now
How old are you now
How old are you Professor Althouse
How old are you now
Happy birthday to you
You live in a zoo
Your current avatar, while an improvement, looks like a monkey
And you smell like...let's find out!
[but SRSLY]
From good friends and true,
From old friends and new,
May good luck go with you,
And happiness too.
Happy Birthday! I like seeing the world through Althouse colored glasses.
How'd I miss this earlier? HBD, professor!
Prof Althouse,
Happy Birthday !!
Whoops, I wished you a happy (belated) birthday in the wrong post (the Limbaugh one above), so I guess I'll do it again!
Here's the comment where I wish you Happy Birthday!
Now can I have one of the fritters?
I realize that the above was written in response to the title of this post, but did anyone else think it reads a little like Eggagog? (And I mean that in the best possible way.)
Happy Birthday, Ann. From donuts to douchebags, this is the only blog that really matters.
