So tell us, do you have a favorite comic book character?

While the Senate's for hire,
If your pockets are light,
You can't play 'Price is Right',

Balloony on Christmas Eve? Not very appetizing. Wouldn't a nice baked fish, or maybe a roasted goose, or even a bit of borcsht, be better?

Where is that little cockroach fellow when you need him?

"Can I finally discuss my undergrad crush on Bo Schembechler?"

You're thinking:

"Here I am now, entertain me"

Yeah, chickenlittle, and like saps, we oblige! Women!

Ron, that would be poly[p]morphic perverse.

It would be cool to win that blog diva thing...I don't really care that much about it though...which come to think of it makes me extra diva-like...so I have that half of it sewn-up...

77 and rising; humid and tropical Christmas.

I'll be doing stuffed pork loin on the grill tomorrow, and use that heat to roast some beets and cipollini onions to toss with a frisee salad. Perhaps I will glaze the pork with a cane syrup (fresh from the cane field, oh yeah), satsuma and chipotle pepper concoction. If so, I will document this beauty, being lately inspired by Chip Ahoy and the ease of iPhone photography.

We're off for a little last-minute shopping, which will surely include a stop or two for drinks along the way.

I like comic books, but I'm tired of gimmicks. They're killing Batman! Infinite Crisis was interesting but I kept calling it infinite sales pitch. Anyone have a good comic recommendation? Something new on the horizon?

And finally, by the way - Althouse, my new google Icon is just for you: this squirrel and his pals followed me from my first-floor office to my new second-floor office. They hop around on palm trees and slam up against my window. I crank out the louver and roll peanuts down the glass for them.

Why so blue?

Unwed teenage mother gives birth to baby in shed and puts him in a slop trough. He grows up to be a homeless criminal. He does weird things and talks in riddles. He is executed. His buddy betrays him. His others friends run away or deny they know him.

And the story has a happy ending.

Go figure.

Anyway, here is video of the chillingly wonderful Christmas Eve message from Apollo 8. With Earth rise.

That was such an incredibly moving thing that they did - I always wonder what an atheist feels watching that.

Is Uncle Scrooge in there somewhere with you? I miss him. I wonder what you look like in all three dimensions. What color do you want to be? It seems you tend toward blue. What does it mean?

The good Earth.

Here is the complete flight transcript for the Apollo 8 mission, including the first photo ever taken of the Earth from the Moon:

075:47:30 Anders or Borman (onboard): Oh, my God! Look at that picture over there! Here's the Earth coming up. Wow, is that pretty!

075:47:37 Borman or Anders (onboard): Hey, don't take that, it's not scheduled.

Not only the first photograph taken, but taken at the same time that the first human saw that sight for the first time. The media that came back from that mission, set in its context, is incredibly moving.
