Reading a menu the other day, I expressed surprised at the existence of a particular item. The server responded, "Welcome to Wisconsin."
What was the item?
AND THE ANSWER IS: Cheese and burger soup.

Texas Toast?
Sweet milk curds?
Cheese curds.
Barbecued cheese, Hmong-Korean-Episcopalian style.
chicken fried steak, or biscuits 'n gravy...
"Broasted" anything.
Eggs Benedict using a bratwurst patty in place of Canadian Bacon.
To be clear, I was surprised that this item existed at all, not that it managed to appear on a menu in Wisconsin. "Welcome to Wisconsin" was the server's attempt to explain that such a thing had been concocted. I was assured of its goodness.
Wisconsin Cheese Mart
moose
Beaver?
Chicken Fried Bacon
...with cream gravy
But that's Texas
I'm going to guess some permutation of cheese, most likely involving a deep frier.
Kringles.
Head cheese?
Liverwurst?
Perhaps an odd flavor of ice cream. The local Whole Foods here has avocado gelato, for instance.
Lutefisk milk shake.
Cheese flavored water.
That Seventies Show platter.
bratwurst salad
Badger Sandwich

Not really that "odd". My grandma used to make avocado (aguacate) ice cream from scratch by hand.
Obama (PBUH) burger
Apple pie with a slice of cheese on it?
Cream of cheese curd soup?
I'm thinking it's a creamed soup with an odd ingredient.
Last week I was at the new La Brioche spot (fabulous!) where Magic Mill used to be, and I'm trying to remember if they had any weird items on their menu. But I can't.
Follow-up quiz: Did Ann order and eat the odd menu item?
"Lutefisk is cod that has been dried in a lye solution. It looks like the desiccated cadavers of squirrels run over by trucks...."
Garrison Keillor
john clemens, what is odd about Apple Pie and cheese? Apple pie is delicious with aged cheddar.
fried badger?
Apple pie with a slice of cheese on it?
Apple pie should ALWAYS be served with a slice of sharp cheddar cheese (at least 5 yrs old).
Anything else would be uncivilized.
And a big glass of cold milk.
Deep-fried Oreo.
Sauteed worm bowels?
Squirrel brains?
Crap salad sandwich?
(all organic, of course)
Egg salad sandwich from free range chickens.
Trout throats.
A toughie. After all, Wisconsin is the home of the cheese-stuffed jalapeno popper.
Deep-fried bacon.
Kosher fake-ham and cheese sandwich, a special Wisconsin tradition for Rosh Hoshana to celebrate America's diversity.
Cock’s combs
Birds’ nests (though not that unknown)
Eyes of a roasted lamb’s head (see Lawrence of Arabia)
Hooves of some sort
Oooh, I bet it was that Pretzel Burger from the Great Dane - a 1/2 pound burger AND a bratwurst on a pretzel roll!
Free range badger.
Tax increase soup.
Carp sandwich? (local catch only, when in season)
Honey baked honey-bees
American robin tongue, eggs or feet
Final entry:
Cow udder
A cheddar cheese dildo.
Oh, wait he got traded to the Jets.
Did we ever get the answer to the last quiz? "Slap in the face" or something from the upcoming blogging heads?
Also, Richard Dolan's guess at 9:05am is the winner (at least on awesomeness).
slightly off topic, but only slightly.
In Virginia, the California Cheese people (The Happy Cow folks) are running an ad called "To California" with a bunch of I assume Wisconsin (listen to the accents) Cows in a snow storm, talking about how Sadie made a break for it and is off to Calfornia
:)
Is it true you folks abuse your cows?

Old Fashioned
No. 6
Jim's Blue Ribbon summer sausage, Miesfeld market holiday garlic salami, Bavaria Sausage Kitchen's Braunschweiger, mustard, bread & butter pickles, deviled eggs, coleslaw and rye bread.
Pickled pigs feet.
Carp sandwich? (local catch only, when in season)
Maybe it's crap sandwich.
Oh, wait, that's D.C.
Here in Mississippi it would be something else. Deep fried crap, perhaps. In Wisconsin? I've never been, but I imagine the crap would be covered in cheese.
raw ginseng garnished with cranberries and covered in real butter, not margarine?
pickled sucker? a smelt patty? booyah? sturgeon blood sausage? venison salad?
although I must agree that #6 at Old Fashioned is about as Wisco as it gets.
After all, Wisconsin is the home of the cheese-stuffed jalapeno popper.
PLuueeese! Something obviously stolen. The jalapeno is the Texas state pepper.
Cheese beer.
Sara Palin's head
Lark's tongues in aspic.
Trooper York's tongue in Rispic.
My three guesses,
1) Something deep fried and on a stick (imported from Minnesota)
2) Some uncommon part of a cow / bull.
3) Moose burger!
Steel Spring Surprise!
A carp sandwich is a crap sandwich. Yuch.
Crunchy Frog.
No wait, that's one of the chocolates from a Monty Python sketch.
I imagine it involves the balls of gelded farm animals. Pig or cow?
I heard they're tasty but I'm too afraid to try it.
Mountain oysters fried in cheese.
Cheese stuffed squirrel?
poutine?
Hamburger with butter?
Chocolate covered bacon.
pickled sucker?
LOL. Fun to snag, and surprisingly good pickled.
I've heard of chocolate covered bacon. It's reported to be good.
Butter Burgers!!!
Bacon and cigarette sandwich?
Old fashion?
Exploding pig?
Has silvio ever been through a Culver's Drive-through?
I think so.
Cheese, stuffed with cheese, with a crunchy cheese coating, served in a three-cheese sauce. With several spicy cheese dipping sauces on the side. And cheese bread.
It was a side dish served with the daily special - cheese plate with braunschwieger.
Excellent with a glass of Cheddar Porter from Capital Brewing Company.
It was probably listed in the 'no added sugar' section of the menu.
Alice in Dairyland on a stick?
I already guessed cheddar cheese dildo.
Hot Dish!
Oh, wait. We have that in Minnesota too. - It must be broasted chicken.
Road Kill burrito (Green Tavern on Thursdays)?
Broasted chicken is only a Wisconsin thing?
I already guessed cheddar cheese dildo.
I was going to say Sen. Herb Kohl, but Trooper beat me to it.
Deep fried cheese curds are actually very good ... though I suspect each one will take a good hour or so off of your life.
As a sort-of aside, one time when my husband and I lived in Texas, we drove by a Culvers (a Wisconsin-based chain -- was surprised to see one in Texas!). He looked up at the sign where they advertise the day's special and asked, "What the heck is Walleye?"
Being a Cheddarhead myself, I never considered Walleye exotic.
Broasted chicken is only a Wisconsin thing?
BC was common in the Chicagoland of my youth -- our pizza delivery joint sold it.
What's distinctly Wisconsin (AFAIK) is the Supper Club. Wisconsin shares with Minnesota the concept of the Parking Ramp.
We caught walleye last weekend when we were canoe camping. Yum, yum, yum.
Trooper, do you have broasted chicken in NY?
I don't think so. But we do have rosietirrie (sic) chicken. I remember there was this old school deli on Pierpont St. that served the Court house area on Court St. Anyway they had this big roaster oven with a glass case that they broiled whole chickens on a spit. I swear that the same chicken was in that thing for a solid year.
Broasted mean's what exactly?
The was a girl in my eight grade class that had the Walleye. It was a shame because she was kinda cute otherwise. But I hear they have an operation for that now.
slate.com, July 21, 1999: Broasted Chicken: A Chatterbox Investigation
Broasted = breaded and deep fried in a pressure cooker. Think of a deep fryer that is constructed with a vault-like top to prevent explosions.

Good question.
Beer. On the breakfast menu.

She was lucky. The bullhead was a far more difficult condition to treat.
Wow, that sounds tasty.
Maybe with cole slaw and pickles and a few ice cold beers.
Ice cream sandwich for desert.
Our local Pizza Huts have 'Badger Special' but sadly, it does not contain badger meet.
Beer chasers go with Bloody Marys. Also on game days, you can start drinking at anytime.
Deep fried twinkie?
The one food I can't get anywhere but Wisconsin is the Ponza Rotta Pizza (like a calzone, but deep fried instead of baked). To my knowledge, they only come from Jimmy' Grotto in Waukesha.

Fried turkey testicles?

You're right, I don't believe we did. We've been played as suckers.
Carrot and raisin salad.
Smelt?
(Though, admittedly, I've seen that on menus in the UP.)
did it have "cajun" in the name?
As someone who grew up in Wisconsin, the proper answer here should probably combine things that are wisconsin. Hunting, sausage, cheese...
Which is why I think it is venison bratwurst with cheese.
Of course the "scrambler" at Mickey's Dairy Bar in Madison probably isn't found anywhere else either (an omlete scrambled with fried potatoes topped with cheese and gravy)
lime Jello with cheddar cheese balls
Hmmm. Mickey's scrambler. I have to skip dinner the night before so I can eat one.
I put up the answer.
The "slap in the face" will be answered when bhtv puts the diavlog up.
I just Googled "Cheese and burger soup" and there is only one entry. That's right, yours.
This month's special is October Surprise.
Cheese and burger soup? That's it?
Sounds mundane.

If you remove the "" a number of recipes come up.
I make a cheese and brat soup (though I've found it's much better with Italian sausage).
I still think it was cheese flavored water.
