Bill Kristol wants McCain to fire his campaign staff. Sadly, the times are so dire that what would ordinarily seem crazy doesn't sound so much so. He's got to do something.

There's an election in Canada tomorrow. I'm hoping that Stephen Harper wins a clear majority. I'm worried though, because Canadians have a tendency to turn to the Liberals whenever things get a little bumpy with the economy. And I'm a liberal in pretty much every way except fiscally. The worst thing for Canada right now would be another minority term, or 5 years of tax increases.

I have election fatigue.

I'd rather think about the hot ham and cheese sandwich and Chee-tos I'm going to have for lunch.

There really is nothing better on God's Green Earth than a nice summer day in the middle of fall. Yesterday was an absolutely perfect day, just right to finish up yard chores -- and then I saw someone in the elevator at work today and he was moaning how hot it was yesterday, which just proves that people will complain about anything.

Oh well, he was a retiree -- maybe he's bummed about his retirement plans.

Yesterday was an absolutely perfect day...

I went to the Renaissance Festival yesterday. It was very hot, especially when the sun was out. But the turkey legs were awesome!

Fall hasn't started here yet. Maybe in a couple of weeks...

No need to fire anybody. They are going to lose, and nothing can stop that. More's the pity, but the campaign leadership starts at the top and McCain blew it. And continues to blow it. So now will have the farthest left president in the history of this once great nation, and things are going to be very different around here. Thought Nifong was bad? Wait until he and his ilk get to play on the national stage.

And those Redskins.

I think I saw that Indian guy with the tear rolling down his cheek on ESPN last night.

How about those Cowboys??????

I think they should fire their pitcher. After that, they'll probably be a good team. But I don't think they can make it to the world cup again this year.

Can anyone recommend a decent 5.1 speaker system for around $250? I have an A/V receiver already, so I only need speakers.

Hey I heard Tony Romo is out for four weeks because he broke his finger. I had heard that Jessica Simpson had a really tight snatch but that’s ridiculous man.

I want to talk about the non-violent, non-crazy left-

.."The media has been busy reporting the "anger" of the conservatives at the McCain/Palin rallies, how supporters want McCain to get tougher on Obama and force Obama's terrorist associations into the eyes of the public and how McCain has been forced to "defend" poor little Barack Obama.....but where are the media reports about Obama supporters wearing t-shirts calling Sarah Palin a Cunt?"...

Well the guy doing all the talkin' on the Browns is an ex-Packer and you know what losers those guys are.

I mean they live in Wisconisn for Pete's sake.

con't-

With 22 campaign days left, might perhaps the Democratic ticket also feel the need to warn its supporters to tone it down?" Nonsense. Democrats feel righteous indignation. Only Republicans can be guilty of hate.

BHO doesn't have to win.

For instance, one way to get things to change overnight is to get an embarrassing video tape of BHO saying something incredibly stupid and revealing how he's basically just an empty suit.

Does everyone agree that such a video would have a devastating impact on his campaign?

OK, then here's an honorable way to get such a video. Yes, it will take a few hours of your time, but compare that to the four years of BHO we're going to have if things continue as they are. And, if you can't spare a few hours, then encourage others to get involved or to push that plan.

Just finished reading Pappy Boyington's autobiography "Baa Baa Black Sheep." Boyington had an interesting life. He was a leader in the Flying Tigers, the Marine Corps' top ace in WWII, Japanese POW, Medal of Honor recipient, alcoholic, and pro wrestling referee. A better military pilot autobiography is "Yeager" by Chuck Yeager. Incredible life story.

The problem isn't the staff - its the candidate.

The conclusions are right but he doesn't know why and so it's three hours of errors.

Hey, you're the one who said For Pete's Sake. Don't blame me! Were you referring to Peter Brady? Peter Piper?

"Rush is insufferably boring when he talks economics. Mostly from being wrong."

Yes, he's been terrible the last few weeks. It's no fun at all listening to him bellyaching about socialism and how the banks for forced by Democrats to make terrible loans.... over and over again.

I'm still trying to figure out how Barny Frank is to blame, given the Republicans controlled the House from Jan 1993 to Jan 2007.

I agree. We took a Sunday drive in our refurbished 72 K 5 Blazer and wantonly burned up about $50.00 of gasoline. We went on some single lane, twisty, windy back roads that used to be stagecoach roads and saw all kinds of scenery. Creeks and rivers in deep shady valleys full of ferns and the tops of the mountains where the pines and cedars were at least 3 foot on the stump. The fall colors were just beginning to turn beautiful and vibrant.

Serendipitously found a little Mexican restaurant that was very very good and got back home in time to take a world class nap before dinner.

Yep. Nothing like a beautiful fall day.

Ann-

The banks were not forced to make bad loans, they made loans that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac said they would enthusiastically purchase from them.

They were not "bad" loans to the banks, they were good and profitable to them because of the policies of Fannie and Freddie.

This market for bad loans was created by political pressure from DC.

Dust Bunny Queen said...

"The banks were not forced to make bad loans"

The banks had/have still a quota of CRA type loans that they must make relative to the deposits and the make up of the population that they serve.

If the bank didn't meet it's quota they were fined. Maybe not "forced" to make "bad" loans but the likelihood that the CRA loans would be less than stellar quality was/is still quite high.

Andrew Sullivan's blog has as a "View from your window" post today a building in Madison, Wisconsin.

http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2008/10/the-view-fro-12.html

Looks interesting.

Can any Madison locals share with us what that building is?

MadisonMan said...

That is the Monona Convention Center, based on a design by Frank Lloyd Wright. I'm guessing the picture is from the hotel that is attached to the Center. That's Lake Monona on the left side of the picture.

Ann Althouse said...

That's the lake where Otis Redding died in a plane crash.

Ger said...

Thanks.

Interesting building. I thought it looked fairly recently built but some of the design elements looked as if from an older era. Looking at the timeline for the project on the Center website I see why.
