"The Lawyers Who May Run America."

A very substantial ABA Journal cover story, with lots of names named, for McCain and for Obama.

And here's the cover (not sure how that works in the paper version):

The ACLU lawyers will run America.

Maybe it's to make all those collectors of the ABA Journal out there scramble to get both covers?

Oh, wait, no:

The November issue has two covers. The front cover features a painting of McCain taking the oath of office. Flip the magazine over, and the back cover features Obama taking the oath. (How did we decide to put McCain on the front? We used presidential debate rules: He won the coin toss.)

McCain cannot raise his arm that high.

This is an obvious attempt to subliminally embarrass the next president of the United States ;)

On second thought, maybe lawyers shouldn't be allowed to run as President, much less a sitting Senator. I really think that if you are a Senator and you want to run for President that you need to not be a sitting Senator and actually have to sit out for a Senatorial cycle until then.

Sullivan would actually be a sensible, reasonable choice for the SG, and Waxman a good choice for the Supreme Court. I'd prefer Sullivan, Althouse or Rick Hills myself, but c'est la vie. Diane Wood? Oh, my! Call me selfish, but I couldn't bear to lose her from the 7th Circuit; I must insist she demur.

But I find it hard to believe that these are the people who would really find favor in an Obama administration.

Mahoney would be a terrific SG. McCain isn't going to nominate Michael Luttig, and even if he didn't, he wouldn't be confirmed. Estrada - couldn't get confirmed for the court of appeals in a GOP controlled Senate, so the idea that he'd be confirmed for SCOTUS in a dem controlled Senate doesn't pass the laugh test. Shame on McCain if Sykes isn't on his list.

Lem,

Obama's got his left hand on the Koran. Or is it "Fugitive Days" by Ayers?

Just kidding.

One cover has a senator, his wife and a lawyer, the other has three lawyers.

Apparently the same people in the background have box seats no matter who is inaugurated.

The must be the Washington insiders McCain and Obama are railing against.

I was just chuckling to myself about that, too!

(Laugh!) And it's awfully warm! McCain and Obama aren't wearing coats! (But why is the one man in the background in a trenchcoat?)

It's a typo.

It should read "Ruin America," not "Run America."

When discussing lawyers, never leave out the "I."

mccullough said...

And why isn't John Roberts son running around on the dais?

Chip Ahoy said...

I have something very serious to say.

The animator should have put the dais and the four microphones on a separate layer then add that layer on top of the morphed portion, and not have them be points in the morph. That way, they'd remain stable through the transition instead of being dragged along with the morph, as they do . Also, the image should have been optimized at a larger file size with more colors, even with smaller dimensions and then displayed at a larger size, that would have reduced most of the aliasing that mars this magnificent morph.

That is all.

Except for this.

The print version of the cover could have one of those lenticular printed pictures that change when held at different angles, like crucified Jesus to resurrected Jesus, or a winking eye. I'd buy it just for that.

The alphabet pop-up book that came yesterday does that, it goes, A, B, C, D, and that makes me love it even more. It feels like you could file your nails on it, but that would probably ruin it.

Open Borders advocate Mariano-Florentino Cuéllar is charge of Immigration?

*rumored* Bulldyke Janet Napolitano, no law enforcement or military experience - in charge of Homeland Security? Well, at least she has sensible shoes to go out in the field and meet agents in..

Please.

Not true. Michelle Obama is a former lawyer. She gave up her Bar license back in 1993, after a law career didn't work out for her. After failing her 1st 1 or 2 Bar Exams, she was a lawyer for only 3 years of her life. Then she became a Daley Machine apparachnik, a "Diversity" maven at UofChicago, and most importantly a wife of a man being cultivated by Chicago's rich&powerful.

All 4 are college graduates. Palin just barely, the other 3 with Masters or above degrees.

Well then it's the perfect dumping ground for a turd like you.

Is it true, as The Boston Globe notes, that Obama gave up his license in 2002?

WTF Grandma? You ignorant snob. Have any of their transcripts been released? Practically no one, especially professors, even remembers Obama at Columbia. Biden was a particularly inept academic at all levels, as was John McCain. Many of the men and women running Wall Street have stellar academic backgrounds. Where did that get us?

Every time I think I might stray back to liberalism a little, some stuck up idiot like Grandma goes credentials on someone, and gets me thinking straight again.

We have all had enough of snobs and fools. How about releasing your transcipt, Grandma. Or might there be something about you that is more interesting or worthwhile?

Mad Magazine ran similar covers for the 1960 election.

If you follow the link, one was the front cover, the other the back cover.

McCain was proudly near the bottom of his class. Graduating with the worst GPA has long been an honor at the service academies.

"McCain graduated 894th out of 899 in 1958, five spots above the “Anchorman,” the lowest-ranking midshipman. In this respect he did uphold one family tradition; his similarly rebellious father Jack, who would rise to the rank of Admiral and was the Pacific Command CINC while his son was being held prisoner in Hanoi, had graduated 424th of 441."

"[Midshipmen like McCain] tend to be the risk takers, the innovators, usually very well liked and in their own way driven. They know how to get into trouble, and more importantly how to get out of it. They also tend to have more than their share of luck."

Whoa, David, you took my comment in the wrong way. Sorry I wasn't more clear.

I meant to question if there was any truth to Cedarford's comment about Palin "just barely" graduated. I like Palin and I think she is extremely bright. She left Biden in the dust in the VP debate.

"Mad Magazine ran similar covers for the 1960 election."

I'd trust the endorsement of the editorial board of MAD over that of the ABA Journal.

Giving up your law license does not a nonlawyer make.

It just means you let other people do the nitty gritty work at an hourly rate.

speaking of Mad mag, i was very happy to pick up their latest issue, which features a centerfold poster of Alfred E Neuman done in the Shepherd Ferry style of Obama "Progress"/"Change"/"Horseshit" posters, with the appropriate caption, "Hopeless". I have it in my office pinned up next to a small Obama "Hope" poster for contrast purposes.

Mad clearly still has "it", whatever "it" is to be Mad.

Bill Clinton wasn't a practicing attorney when he said,

"It depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is. If the--if he--if 'is' means is and never has been, that is not--that is one thing. If it means there is none, that was a completely true statement...."

I rather doubt a non-lawyer would have made the above statement.

I've always been puzzled at the idea that lawyers are qualified for any government position, Sec State, Sec HHS, whatever.

How about this:

Any lawyer elected to federal offie has to surender his/her law license for the term plys 3 years.

Might slow down the tide.

MadisonMan said...

I think that would make them try ever harder to stay in office, if they can't practice their vocation when they leave.

Lance Burri said...

McCain isn't a lawyer. No law degree. Never went to law school. Do they change the caption for his cover?

The Ivy-League illuminati politicians will find ways to help their buddies, even those accused of fraud. One thing we know lawyers to be is dishonest, and that should speak loudly.
