We're advising our kids to get together a disaster kit and enough money to get out of the city should the unthinkable happen, and Obama loses. The riots and the meltdown will make anything we've seen in the past look tame. You think Bush derangement syndrome has been bad.

Simon said...: Rose - the nightmare scenario (for the purposes you mention) is that Obama not only loses, but loses because he came up short in the electoral college despite a significant popular vote majority. In that scenario, we not only have riots and so forth, but after things calm down, there will almost certainly be a concerted effort to eliminate the electoral college, something I dread almost as much as an Obama Presidency. Still, that seems unlikely given recent trends in the projected electoral college.; 10/12/08, 1:43 PM

A few months ago? No. But now...I don't know what's come over me. I've been watching Sarah Palin speeches , McCain campaign videos and going to some crazy lady's website and I just feel different.

I feel a rage welling up in me. A boundless rush of hate and a twinge of fear.

The electorate have that "deer in the headlights" look about them, bound and determined to get run down by Obama's campaign. Simon said...: Zach, Democratic control of the Senate presupposes comity in that body. Items are placed on the Senate calender by unanimous consent; the witholding of that is called a "hold." Look it up. Once a bill comes to the floor, the rules require that the bill is read, in full, by the secretary of the Senate. Ordinarily, that reading is waived - by unanimous consent. Recently, Senator McConnell refused that consent; the Senate was shut down for the better part of a day while the entirety of the bill was read aloud. You might remember that. The minority has tools. The question is whether they have the nerve to use them.

Of course, the Democrats have no respect for the traditions and rules of the Senate; they will do everything possible to eliminate such limits on their power. That's what liberals do: identify limits on power and try to remove them. Hence, Roosevelt's court packing plan, for example. The question will be, do you have time to do that before the midterms evict your majority? This slumber of reason might get you past election day, but it isn't going to last long.; 10/12/08, 10:22 PM
