"At Sarah Palin’s old church in Wasilla, they spoke in tongues. Maybe that’s where she picked it up."

Maureen Dowd makes the joke that Michelle Cottle used the phrase "prompts nasty quips" to distance herself from.

Maureen and Michelle are prettier versions of Lester Maddox with an axe handle. The language that they use about white working class people may be nicer than the language that Lester used about blacks, but the hatred, resentment, and fear are the same.

She lost me at the first sentence:

"I had hoped I was finally done with acting as an interpreter for politicians whose relationship with the English language was tumultuous."

I often need an interpreter to understand what Maureen Dowd is trying to say in her columns.

Dowd's whole thing is snake handling.

Maureen Dowd speaks from behind a keyboard with editors that catch mistakes. Unscripted speaking is a great deal different than writing a column at your desk. Would she have done as well during a live globally televised debate? Heh heh, I would pay to see that.

Being from the south, I have heard many of the same criticisms from yankees about our way of speaking. Actually, the contempt shown was for our entire culture and way of life. Oh well, let them cut off their nose to spite their face. Now if we could just keep’em from moving down here in ever increasing numbers! Just kidding. lol

Heh heh - Dowd’s attack also reminds me of the grammar police often found in comments and forums. They attack the format of the message rather than challenge the substance of the argument. I suppose it is easier than defending your ideology.

Maureen Dowd? Didn't she used to be relevant, smart, interesting, attractive and sober? Ah, the good old days.

Maureen can't seem to see the difference with "elite" navy seals who risk their lives vs the elites in government who risk our wallets.Oh well just another day in New York and Washington for the untouchable Miss Dowd.

In flyover country you can vote as often as you want for Obama, until Nov 3. Nobody checks your registration.

Maureen Dowd is a prime example of why people, us common folk who like Palin, hate the self labeled elites.

"Navy Seals are elite, and they get lots of training so they can swim underwater and invade a foreign country"

Maureen. Get a freaking clue. The Navy Seals are elite because they are doing something that very very few people can do. They have to prove themselves and if they can't do the job, they are eliminated from the "elite" squad. The political and cultural elites, have elected themselves to that position and have few skills other than cultivated snobbery. The political and cultural "elites" accomplish little of any real substance and burden the rest of us with their foolishness.

When the excrement hits the oscillating mechanism, elites and community organizers will be superfluous and the plumber and carpenter will be kings.

DBQ--

The political and cultural elites don't elect themselves.

Do you think anybody can do what Rush Limbaugh does?

What Condoleeza Rice does?

Carly Fiorina doesn't think anybody can be a CEO.

Or even, for that matter, what Sarah Palin does. Her area of expertise, though, doesn't necessarily qualify her to govern a country.

When Obama drills Maureen Dowd from behind with the long tool he actually gives her brain damage.

Which explains this column.

I envy Dowd sometimes. She has not left NYC for the past 30 years (other than to travel abroad) She has not had to deal with the rude aboriginals of the fly-over states. She has not had to learn the crass idioms of the plains. She is constantly surrounded by well-spoken, polite New Yorkers who are immune to the rough language of the Midwest.

And what makes me even more envious is the fact that she can have a few bloody maries while working hard, and still make a lot of money and deliver a quality of work that Shakespeare would have killed to achieve.

What Maureen should do is go to church herself. Maybe she would meet a normal person instead of the users that treat her like a sperm bucket and dump her desperate ass over and over. At the very least she might learn something about compassion and love, which you will never find at the New York Times.

Or she can get herself a couple of cats.

In the current issue of the New Yorker there is a selection of Norman Mailer's letters to various friends over the years. What is striking about these letters is how a deft practitioner of the English language can be such a consistent jerk. In the letters Mailer expresses his respect for Marx, Trotsky, and Castro. Mailer has some reservations about the Soviet Union but his true contempt is for American capitalism. It is well to remember that this man, who was not capable of settling a domestic dispute without murderous violence wanted to be the mayor of NYC and that many of the elite of this city thought he would be a fine mayor....I think it's fair to say that Mailer had a greater command of the English language than Palin. I also think it's fair to say that Palin has a greater command of her impulses and how to handle the reins of power than Mailer.....Dowd and Mailer are Mandarins. They know how to use language. That is pretty much all they know....Ponder the original Mandarins. China invented the printing press, gunpowder, the magnet, large ocean going vessels et alia. They were never able to capitalize on these innovations. That was because the Mandarins despised and suppressed the merchant class and, to a lesser extent, the military. The Mandarins felt that the true measure of a man was his calligraphy and learning, not his stength and money.

Maureen Dowd is obviously a gin drinker. Gin drinkers curl the lip and indulge in spite.

MoDo is still pissed over being tossed from McCain's plane and forced to stay in a Pittsburg airport hotel and return to NY with the unwashed masses.

Imagining Dowd's reaction to an airport hotel room makes me giggle. Once I was stranded at JFK by an equipment failure and the airline put us up at the local Hilton, man it was the scariest place I've ever stayed, including a $9 a night room in Kowloon when I was a yute backpacking around Asia.
