Apple-eating time.

Our ratty friend was thoroughly comfortable in that position.

Reminds me of the time when the British government attempted to turn folks' opinion against the cute squirrels by calling them “tree rats.” I'm pleased to say that the campaign was a total failure.

That's exactly how I eat them!

Turn it 90 degrees counterclockwise and it is a giant A.

A stands for AMABO.

We're being subverted.

Is that an elephant's leg the squirrel is hanging off of?

What is an elephant doing loose in Wisconsin?

“A countless multitude of squirrels, obeying some great and universal impulse, which none can know but the Spirit that gave them being, left their reckless and gambolling life, and their ancient places of retreat in the north, and were seen pressing forward by tens of thousands in a deep and sober phalanx to the South …”

1811 recounting of a vast squirrel migration.

"In southeastern Wisconsin in 1842, a gray squirrel migration lasted four weeks and involved nearly a half billion squirrels."

This is why there are so few elephants in Wisconsin. They were trampled to death.

Squirrels are another good reason to acquire a dog. Poodles, for example, are sharp hunters, and squirrels make choice prey. One of my poodles killed a squirrel; the only thing she left behind was the tail.

Original George, that was a terrific link. It's a little sad how these things go on even now -- as late as 1968 -- but they seem not to be all that remarkable anymore. What an interesting phenomenon.

Theo, your link to that EDS mersh was also quite enjoyable.

We used to have a squirrel in our neighborhood whom I'd watch walk across the telephone wires outside our back windows every Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Sometimes in the mornings when we were in the kitchen eating with our 2 year old daughter, he would appear on the roof of the neighboring building (both buildings were 4 stories and we live on the top floor) and proceed to scale down the wall to the ground, much like the guy in Ann's photo. My daughter loved the little guy because he seemed to show up and make himself visible at the right time to amuse her. We were wondering about him once after not seeing him for a few days and the next morning when I was returning from running errands I saw his flattened body in the middle of my street.

It was very sad to see, because he was a great neighbor and brought us a lot of joy.
