Worst pop culture curses.

Campbell's Chunky Soup?

ADDED: I've fixed the link. And I'm still laughing at the complete wrongness of the accidental link, which was something I'd copied when I was going to so something more on this post. The struggle to understand this post in the comments is really funny — especially the effort to "kozinski."

Ann, I opened the link, and I don't understand what this is all about.

I am as clueless as allens. Oh, if only I were more up on pop culture!

I do find Campbell's Chunky Soup overly salty, by the way. I usually make my own soup. Nothing is better than Curried Squash soup with a good bread on a cool Fall day.

Count me in.

Googling the curse was easy enough:

(2)

(3)

But I don’t get the photo.

“O” well.

The worse curse in pop culture was of course the "Curse of the Bambino" which stopped the Red Sox from winning the pennant after they traded Babe Ruth. The Red Sox fans tried many different ways to reverse the curse, but the one that actually worked was very interesting. It seems that the Babe was so pissed when he was traded, he took his first wife Helen's piano and threw it in a pond. An enterprising Red Sox fan rescued the damaged piano and restored it to health. The next year the Red Sox won the pennant. Stange eh.

Now the Chicago Cubs have the famous "goat" curse in which Charlie Cominsky refused to let a bar owner bring his pet goat to a game and the Cubs have been cursed to never go back to the World Series since that very day. To reverse the curse, Cub Management has invited Mickey Kaus and a date to their first playoff series.

Campbell is not an Olympic sponsor, is it?

Who is the man in the picture? Kinda looks like Bush, but maybe he is a football coach. Or is it Bush just trying to figure out how to do the 'O'?

Sorry, but I'm not a sports follower.

Link to Althouse blog dated 3-30-04,with GWB pic from

Journey's With George, where George Bush is spelling out the letters to VICTORY in cheerleader style. This is the R:

So what's the link to Campbell?

I assume this has something to do with the Olympics.
