Video puzzle of the day.

What is this? Who am I talking to?

Jonah Goldberg.

Ann Althouse said...

Nope.

Kaus- or do people hate Wright?

The only widely hated weblebrities I can think of are Andrew Sullivan and the guy whose last name is Greensomething.

However, it's hard to imagine not being able to pin down why those two are hated. Althouse is hated for being emotional. So is Sullivan, although people have additional reasons as well.

It's also hard to imagine Althouse having a conversation with Sullivan, and has he ever done a Bloggingheads?

"Nope."

A jar of marmite.

Simon said...

Ha! I guess my comment's redundant in light of Chuck's comment. At least, Greenwald and Sullivan have almost the brains of a jar of marmite.

Chennaul said...

chuck-

You mean the guy who joue avec ses chaussettes..?

Ya what the hell is that guy's name?

Green-tards?

Chennaul said...

Greenwad!

Damn didn't see Simon's post till now.

Only judging from the sound to video synchronization, I'm going to have to say, Godzilla.

(so he knocks down a few buildings, why does that inspire so much hate?)

(and he should, 'go there', go ahead Godzilla, knock down those buildings to your hearts content)

Otherwise, wow, all those kind words you said about Rush Limbaugh got him to agree to do a bloggingheads with you, I'm impressed.

Looking at this logically, though, based on the edit, the other person didn't seem offended by the idea of inspiring hatred, and was kind of amused by it.

I can't imagine anyone on the left taking that stance, so it would almost have to be someone to the right of Althouse politically. Jonah Goldberg has already been ruled out, Michelle Malkin certainly generates plenty of hatred, but I don't see her doing a bloggingheads, and Althouse said she wasn't that interested in a token 'woman to woman' chat again.

Pretty much everyone to the right of center generates a certain amount of hatred on the web, so just from that snippet, other than ruling out the other interlocutor being to the left of Althouse, I can't narrow this much more.

Me!

Ann Althouse said...

Not Greenwald.

Sorry to have screwed up the synch in my edit, but that discontinuity is irrelevant to the puzzle.

I hate to admit it because I used to really despise him back when he was using sock puppets and was trying to assassinate rival bloggers' characters in unfair fashion, but Greenwald's blog has improved a lot since he moved to Salon and he's actually starting to become a principled blogger.

I even learned from him yesterday that Biden once tried to open the door for people supplying bottled water and glow sticks at raves to be prosecuted for possessing drug paraphernalia. He highlighted that by favorably linking to an old Glenn Reynolds article.

Not Kaus?

I don't know. But I will say this.

I didn't know who you were. I started to dislike you because I found your opinions to be hypocritical (at ATL you talked about good writing, while yours is average at best).

And then there was your overwhelming sense of self-importance. Someone told you you were smart one day and you (unfortunately) believed it.

I'm learning not to hate you as much, though. People I hate tend to grow on me. I do check your blog now and often enjoy the things you post (about 25%).

So, cheers!

Are you being interviewed by the Instapundit?

I hacked the Bloggingheads mainframe and found this evidence supporting my 6:26 PM comment.

George Bush?

chuck b. said...

Sullivan? I'm getting more imaginative.

Chip Ahoy said...

Who are "they" of which you speak doing all the hating? Us lovely darlings? Couldn't be. 'They' would have to be people who cannot tolerate discussion venturing outside accepted narrative and easily given to expressions of hatred.

not sullivan or greenwald

Another Bloggingheads with Robin Givhans? Her article on Michael Phelps seems to have inspired a lot of negative comments here. And the BH commentariat seem to feel two women talking about fashion and culture is beneath them .

Henry said...

My guess is Megan McArdle, who seems to generate a parallel kind of hate as Althouse.

Like Althouse, some seem to hate McArdle for not being serious enough. She's scattershot, she's flip, she's idiosyncratic. Then, despite that, she dares write as an expert on a technical topic. Economics in Megan's case. Other hate her for not taking politics seriously enough. Those that want the personal to be political can't stand her. Or Ann.

Eleanor Roosevelt.

You are talking to yourself.

It's perfect since it's all about you.

Gawd you are nauseatingly flirty.

And that MUST mean you're talking to yourself.

Virginia Woolf

Dang! I only asked why you made your A's differently on that puzzle!

Is there a prize for the winner. You know, like an all expense paid trip to Muncie, Indiana, or something?

Glen Reynolds. At least according to some of the past comments here.

Isn't that the same shirt Althouse wore in her most recent Bloggingheads with Robert Wright?

I would've thought that Althouse, who shops at all the high fashion stores in L.A., would not allow a repeat of Bloggingheads outfits to occur so quickly.

saintrussell said...

My guess is the same as Henry's, and for pretty much the reasons he stated: Megan McArdle.

Ann Althouse said...

It's not the same shirt.

chickelit said...

You gonna post the answer at 3AM?

Meade said...

Shall I tell them now?

blake said...

Yeah, I would probably guess MM--er, McArdle, too. Sometimes I read her commenters just to marvel at how hated she is.

I find it impressive how adroitly you two handle it.

Reynolds is probably more hated just for being more popular and not being nutrooty. Malkin is the most hated, probably. She's female, minority, young, famous, successful as a pundit, and the audacity to challenge a lot of liberal shibboleths.

You're probably a solid (if not close) second, and I think that's because you're seen as an apostate. Call yourself liberal, feminist, identify strongly (though not always respectfully) with '60s ideas, and be a woman -- but don't adhere to the current party line? A recipe for hate.

blake said...

I contradicted myself by saying Reynolds was second then saying you were. I think that's because I changed my mind mid-post.

There's some boost that bloggers get from being female. I think that works on the love and hate side.

Michael Richards? Mel Gibson? Dick Cheney? Paris Hilton?

I think it's probably a chick because Ann says "we" which women use about men less often unless they're in a relationship.

Mickey the K is a blogging snob and rarely works with anyone but the Queen Bee Bob.

I'm thinking Robin Givhan unless Ann managed to get Camille Paglia. But the problem there is does Camille Paglia really need someone to encourage her to go out and try to inspire hate and outrage?

Same with Malkin or Ann Coulter. It would be silly to think you need to encourage them.

But Robin Givhan reviews clothes. She's not trying to be outrageous, just honest.

It's Robin Givhan!! The black Mr.Blackwell.

KLDAVIS said...

You're pretending to interview Michelle Obama.

AllenS said...

You're talking about Maxine and her dirty socks.

bearbee said...

@ 17 seconds sounds like a woman's voice saying 'yeah' so I'll go with Malkin as someone already suggested.
