Over at Politico, there is an ad that McCain is running that shows one of the Democratic debates, and Biden says that Obama is not ready for the presidency and then praises McCain whom he considers more qualified to be president.
This looks terrible.
There is still time for Obama to throw Biden under the bus.
(Although, I can see how Biden/Delaware, Palin/Alaska could nicely rejuvenate the old "What did Joe Biden wear? I don't know, I'll ask Sarah Palin." joke.)
I think it is interesting that so many Republicans want McCain to make an identity-politics pick with Palin.
Everyone knows the power of the politics of it. But it's not just identity politics. Palin brings with her a conservative record--significantly more than Romney.
She fought entrenched politics to clean up Alaska--precisely what so many of us want to happen with the whole party.
And she's hot.
We like our qualified governors, and she's very fitting. That we also see the benefit of helping to make history have an R by it isn't surprising.
"But it's not just identity politics. Palin brings with her a conservative record"
It's not just means it is, partly.
I hope I don't have to hear about the Democrats' identity politics any further. After all, their response will always be "but it's not just..."
For Obama, it was not just identity politics, but he brings a new face and transcendent nature to politics (that is what it was).
For Hillary, it was not just identity politics, but that she's the 'smartest woman' and that she brings more experience standing up to the VRWC than anyone.
E-core, but (ha!) don't you see the distinctions there.
Palin has an actual record. "But" she has done the work.
Obama has no record, little experience of doing what he says he will do.
Hillary was first lady for 8 years.
So, we can point to Palin as being both handy as a political moment, but also having shown herself to be among the best governors to highlight.
Republicans don't have an issue with identity politics (most powerful black woman in history is a Republican after all), but with it being primarily and solely about the identity.
Hey it's not like TNR misspelled "potato" or something serious like that.
Freudian delight!
meade said it best @8:12 AM.
But, more important, Obama continues his gaffes, introducing Biden as the next President & then it’s in some blog that Biden referred to him as Barack Omera or America.
Or maybe Obama’s gaffes are just "dog bites man" as far as the MSM is concerned

Biden needs a bidet!
Maybe they are using the cockney slang. Some might think it advantageous to inject a little red, white and blue into the ticket!
Antiseptic.
"As for using office to get rich, Biden's record looks to be squeaky clean."
Never mind. Apparently he has one in his office.

Barry just lost this election. I love it.
Welcome to all the Hillary guys and gals who are now going to vote for McCain.
And as to McCain. Pick Sarah Palin NOW.
"And as to McCain. Pick Sarah Palin NOW."
Wouldn't Condoleezza Rice be more qualified?

Biden said Obama was "....articulate .. bright and clean..."
Here they are at 3 am.

Biden's selection as Obama's running mate is a gift to the McCain campaign.
McCain should select either Sarah Palin or Kay Baily Hutchisen as his running mate to capture the womens' vote.

I thought Republicans were against that sort of thing? Or do they just whine about it because Democrats are better than them at it?
E Core,
It's cynical identity politics if Democrats do it.
It's simply being politic if Republicans do it.

Will Biden, if elected, be called Mr. Vice President, or will he be known as the messiah's apprentice?
(With apologies to Disney's Sorcerer's Apprentice)

We want the record to give it authority.
I didn't see Simon make this comment, so I will.
Did you know that in Britain we call Americans "Septics"? Septic Tank = Yank.
Muarf.

Palin also happens to be smart, experienced, and very conservative. Her being a woman - and a babe at that - is just a plus.
