Here's the post to talk about "American Idol."
There are only 4 left, and by "American Idol" tradition — dating back to the Season 1 ouster of Tamyra Gray — this is the week for a shocking early departure. Could it be that a David will leave this week? It's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame night tonight, so David Cook ought to be safe. Could he possibly screw up? Could fans screw up thinking he's safe? Or could David Archuleta fall this week? I'm sure there is plenty of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame crap that is suitable for young Archuleta. Anyway, I'll be watching much later tonight, so carry on without me.

Wow, Paula looks all Charlie's Angels hot. Definite upgrade.
Holy crap. I'm older than David Cook!?!? Well, my night is ruined.
It would be nice if David A. would go but thats not gonna happen.
Jason goes bye-bye
She's trying very hard to appear composed and coherent, but I think she seems scripted. David Cook looked downright unsettled by her comment on her appetite.
First round, my take. David Cook was good, as always, but boring as not always; Syesha can't sing like Tina Turner, but my, she can dance! Jason pretty much deserves Simon's abuse. And David A was really having fun, showing off that gorgeous voice, and even remembering, most of the time, to keep his eyes open. I thought he was far and away the best so far.
Syesha channels Brooke!
Syesha sings "A Change Is Gonna Come" and creates the perfect lead-in to Obama's North Carolina speech. Anyone else moved by that? I kinda was.
No surprise this week, Jason goes. Good grief, with that array of songs you have to at least know the damn lyrics.
I've only watched the first performance. I though David Cook's version of Hungry Like The Wolf was really bad. It was only half his fault, because the sound wasn't mixed very well; the instruments were oddly quiet. To me, he completely ruined the song. Felt like he had been forced to sing it and didn't even like it that much.
Syesha's fairly good. Maybe I'll root for her, since I don't like the others that much.
Aw, bye bye Jason. :( David Cook annoyed me. I'm finding David Archuleta less adorable and charming with each week. Still adore his voice. Syesha was pretty awesome this week. She took a page right out of Hil's playbook, as her reaction to the judges commentary on her second song totally made me see her as an actual person for the first time ever.
Jason was horrid.
David Cook's Hungry Like a Wolf stunk, but the song stinks, so that's no surprise. His Baba O'Riley was impressive, even though the arrangement got pretty bad toward the end.
Syesha was forgettable.
Archuleta wanted to make me stick a hot poker in my ears. My God, does his voice annoy me.
Jason should go, but for the sake of his career, David Cook should hope he goes.
I had one more thought about Jason. He certainly ought to go. But I can't think of any other AI contestant who has gotten this far while so thoroughly resisting the "star-making machinery behind the popular song." He looks exactly the same as he did at the beginning. Wears the same clothes. Sings the same songs. Hasn't changed one bit. Now you might say he hasn't grown, as, say, Syesha has, an you'd be right. But I rather admire his sense of self.
and you'd be right. Argh.
I can't shake the feeling, whenever Jason speaks or sings, that he smoked a big doobie about 30 minutes ago.
No surprise this week, Jason goes. Good grief, with that array of songs you have to at least know the damn lyrics.
Since he was singing a Bob Dylan song he should have just mumbled. Everyone would have thought he was singing the right words.
Now you might say he hasn't grown, as, say, Syesha has, an you'd be right. But I rather admire his sense of self.
It's a self that can always be counted on to stay at the bong for one hit too many.
Yes, I'd say that's about right. The bong/doobie theory also goes a long way towards explaining how a person could manage to forget lyrics like "in the jingle jangle morning."
However, at least he's consistent.
everyone did poorly, IMO
two bad weeks in a row.
ignore italics above
I wish AI'd make the final three so something quite a bit different.

This Week It's The Music of Lawrence Welk on YOUR American Idol!!!
(cue intro vid).
...That's do, not so. Sorry.
They should have a hard rock week and Archuleta should be forced to sing Back in Black. (I shudder.)
Actually the music of Lawrence Welk would be a good test. He often had his singers cover the great American songbook of Irving Berlin, Sammy Cahn, Jerome Kern, Johnny Mercer, Harold Arlen, Cole Porter, and George and Ira. I doubt any of the Idols could give a credible rendition of some of the standards. If any of them could, it would be Syesha and she is being set up to fail.
For "Rock" week, Archuleta sings 2 ballads...
He's as bland as Wonder Bread™
Trooper, I agree. Having David Cook sing 'Moonlight in Vermont' would be interesting, at the least.
My wife, who teaches vocal music, says that David A. has a fine voice, although it hurts to actually watch him attempt to emote. She also says Sayesha is a dead lock for Broadway, and David C. will be the moneymaker.
My opinion - I think David A. is channeling Debby Boone, David C.'s head will explode, and Sayesha will spend years touring in a Diana Ross tribute show.
