Congress cracks down on flavored cigarettes to show it cares about children...

... and has to cut a swath around menthol to show it cares about black people.

Or... wait... is it supposed to show it cares about black people by helping them like smoking less? It's so hard to be a caring congressperson these days!

Denying them clove cigarettes will only make our children even more likely to be goths when they grow up!

Phillip Morris, which doesn't sell cloves but sells menthols, supports banning the former but not the latter. Shocking.

Dangerous compounds seem to be always at fault. No longer found in the Gilbert Boys' Chemistry Set.

Pandering is just so difficult these days.

Barack Obama, alleged to have recently kicked the habit, could be the spokesman of a public service campaign to stop smoking.

Can we quit?

Yes we can.

OTOH, Barack could adopt a pro-hemp stance!

Can we smoke a bowl?

Yes, we can!

They're not kidding about the enduring popularity of menthol. One convenience store I would stop at on 79th St. had two cigarette machines. One was filled with a variety of brands; every pull handle on the other had a stack of Kools behind it.

A friend, pumping gas as a young man in Racine, was surprised when a black guy pulled up and said, simply, "Gimme a pack of what I am." The customer responded to his "Huh?" with "Kooooooooooooollllllll"

Don't forget Joe Camel. Joe Camel was racist -- he used to roll his own whenever he saw black people approaching.

Youtube appears to have taken down all Marlboro ads, except this one from Indonesia. Interesting how the cowboy theme is used.

Here is the real thing. Looks like Dick Cheney is in the ad.

Aaarrrggghhh...my one little pleasure...I pay my taxes on time, obey the laws, don't eat trans fats anymore, and now Daddy Government says I can't have my cloves!!! What's next? They gonna pass a law that I can't sunbathe because of the severe risk of skin cancer?
