"Standing shoulder to shoulder with his grim-faced wife, Michelle, the governor said his 'conscience is clear'...."

Here's this character, newly arrived on the national stage, whom we haven't had 5 minutes to get to like, and he's already nothing but trouble. Is David Paterson really going to get to be the Governor of New York for the next 3 years?
Asked if he had ever used campaign funds for hotels or other personal expenses, he left himself some wiggle room - saying he never "knowingly" did so....

Meanwhile, since the press conference an Olympic gold-medalist has also come forward, claiming she had a "close relationship" with the Governor and allegedly tape recorded her phone conversations with him, according to a newspaper report.

Diane Dixon, a Brooklyn native who won medals in the 4x400-meter relay at the 1984 games in Los Angeles and the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, claimed that Paterson had assisted in helping her secure a Department of Education job in Crown Heights.
We barely know this guy and now we have to listen to his sex tapes?

IN THE COMMENTS: Madison Man says: "What is this with all the Michelles? Michelle Paterson. Michelle Obama. Jason sings Michelle." Ha ha. I know what he's talking about:

Jason Castro

Jason Castro
Jason Castro.

Ann, your first paragraph is missing the word "but" between "nothing" and "trouble."

I blame John and Paul.

What kind of person does that?

Time to rexamine the McCain adultery charges.

Isn't it pretty clear that, at minimum, he did cheat on his first wife? He started seeing his second wife shortly after he returned from his internment in Vietnam, while he was still married to his first wife. I vaguely recall Ross Perot (?) criticising him pretty harshly for doing so, when his wife had remained faithful the whole five years.

He must be being advised by his closest political advisors to get it all out there right now on day one if he intends to have a future in politics. This way it'll be passé and old hat if and when he runs for re-election and/or higher office.

I don't care if McCain had an affair. And I don't care if a Liutenant Governor had an affair.

But Drudge cares.

So I think we need to have some equality when it comes to examining people's private lives.

God forbid we actually talk about issues - you know - the disasterous Iraq war that was started on false information. the stagnant incomes of Americans over the last 7 years, the fact that the Eurozone GDP has now passed Americas (and that doesn't even include Great Britian or Switzerland).

Nope - I just care about Obama's preacher.

Sorry - American is a shitty country. And Americans deserves to rot in the shithole they've created.

I thought the process by which Democrat candidates for office are examined was so thorough that this kind of stuff shouldn't happen. At least not in NY and certainly not in NJ.

David Patterson will be just fine. The reason Spitzer was destroyed was because he was a scumbag who made way to many enemies. If he got a ticket for jay walking every single person in New York State would combine to tar and feather him like a custom official in the John Adams miniseries. Patterson is part of the corrupt machine of Charley Rangel, Percy Sutton, David Dinkins and his dad Basil Patterson. He is someone you can do bidness with and will be protected by the powers that be. He will fall in line and do what he is told. You heard it here first, he will be a popular and very successful governor who will probably be reelected easily no matter how many babes he threw the old javelin with.

Thanks, Eric. Fixed.

I too don't care if politicians have affairs. I do care if they use state money or use their position to do favors for their sexual partners. I think the reason Paterson is disclosing so much is that he sees these significant accusations coming and he's trying to control things.

not much of that is correct.

short timeline

65 married
67 captured
73 released

so at this point, McCain and first wife Carol have been married for 8 years and spent under 2 together.

73-74 McCain has affairs, "making up for lost time, my words" or as Carol said, "John was 40, wanting to be 25". They remain friends today

74 separates from first wife carol

79 Meets second wife
79-80 likely has sex with her
80 divorces first wife. very generous settlement.
80 marries second wife
81 retires

Cut Paterson some slack. The man is blind - - he couldn't see that it wasn't his wife.

Ah, so he didn't cheat on his first wife with the second wife, it was just with other women. Okay. Either way, that infidelity isn't really something McCain can deny, and I don't think he's really tried to.

I have actually met David Patterson at a racket they held for the chief of department's retirement. He had said something really stupid about how cops should shoot "to wound" not to kill and was hammered unmercifully for it. But he was man enough to step up and meet his critics and say he made a mistake and hadn't thought it through, he was just being emotional after a police shooting. I got a sense that he was "real" in a way that phony scumbag Spitzer could never be. So he is getting his real history and real problems out front so he can get down to the business of cutting the pie. And he is smart enough to make sure everyone will get a piece, (even the Republicans, horrors)

Leave. Please, do us a favor and leave. If you think it is so bad here, go to one of the Liberal bastions of freedom; Darfur, Somalia, Syria, Iran, Gaza, or any other place where you can be free. Of course, knowing your proclivities, Thailand or Viet Nam may be more to your taste.

I will happily accept any NY Post offer for any sex tape that I will make, and I'll take requests if need be! But I don't do Governor! Who knows where that's been!

Peter V. Bella said...

Whether politicians have affairs is not the issue. It is how they handle them if they become public. Of course, hiring hookers, in violation of the laws that you so vigorously prosecuted, demands scrutiny no matter where the funds came from. If you are a holier than thou, absolute moral crusader and persecutor, then it would behoove you not to get caught banging whores for money.

DTL spirals down and down. Sad and disgusting at the same time. Today in my little corner of this shithole, the sun is shining, the temperature is (finally) 40, and people were nice and smiling. My coffee was good, and Althouse lets me drop my worthless prose here, where trooper keeps me entertained. I have blessings too numerous to list further.

So if this is shit, I say 4 more years.

Another perspective is that a government official who has an affair should be smart enough to select a lover who can keep her or his mouth shut. (And, for heaven's sake, someone who dry cleans their clothes and doesn't record phone conversations.)

Ron-

Ya but would you do a 3 1/2 star one from The Governor's Club?

downtownlad did leave the US, he's currently in Phuket buying poor Thai street boys by the dozen.

That's what happens when you remain a miserable closet queen until you're in your thirties. It warps your mind.

And, given that there were inquiries as to why I constantly fight with downtownlad, it's because he's a miserable unpleasant sociopath who tries his best to wreck the comments here. He disgusts me, and he gives Homo Sapiens a bad name, not to mention homosexuals.

Oh, and can somebody forcibly shave Jason Castro's head? Would that be against the law?

The question is:

What did the NY state press know, and when did it know it?

Now is a Thai dozen more than a baker's dozen and do you think DTL could handle such numbers?

Patterson's affair doesn't bother me. He and his wife were separated so it doesn't sound like he was cheating or lying to his wife.

It's the cheating, lying, and corruption part of politicians that should bother us - i.e., such as Obama using his office to get a $300k gift from Rezko. Such as Obama saying he only got $15k from Rezko and later admitting it was $250k.

The Monica affair, however, was different because Clinton had put himself into the position of being bribed. As Commander and Chief, that would be a bad thing.

downtownlad-

I've ben reading your stuff now for years.

You know what?

I get it.

How 'bout this? For me to say this is really going to piss you off-but guess what?

Your parents-

You family-

They suck.

Palladian doesn't get why you stayed in the closet but I sure as hell do-

His family accepted him, yours didn't and I am damn sure you knew that about them.

I get how you would blame the country or their religion-because to blame them would admit that the fault of their rejection of you lies squarely with your parents.

They are bastards you get that?

Don't let what's wrong with them be what keeps being what's wrong with you.

If that makes sense.

You know moving out of the country and getting on with it-is a damn great move.

Re-visiiting "it" on the internet probably negates all the good of doing that.

(Then again, it is Heather who is coming out a lot better than any of the Michelles this week. A LOT better.) She split from Sir Paul just a few days before his 64th birthday, and now has $54,000,000.00 to show for it. Maybe a hint for Mrs. Spitzer and Mrs. Paterson?

Will you still need me, will you still feed me, when I'm sixty-four?

NO!!
