This is what's going on out in back of the Pyle Center, where I'm attending a law-race-feminism conference:
Blind item: What self-styled "feminist law professor" is trashing my blog because I'm blogging this conference? Hello? We're honoring the 25th Anniversary of the Feminism and Legal Theory Project and you're not here.

OK, what self-styled "feminist law professor" is trashing your blog?
We have ways of dealing with that. Offers that can't be refused, and all that. If they refuse, wel, we just send in guys with names like Little Jimmy Fats, Joe No Nose Difoggio, Joey the Clown Lombardo, Jimmy Balls Preto, and Trooper York.
Sure glad to see Nina's name but I'm surprised Ann Bartow doesn't seem to be on any of the panels.
Is this the dissing you refer to? feminist law profs
You misogynist you!
Oh what a prig-Jeebus here is her Header-motto-
Feminist Law Professors
“No person is your friend who demands your silence.” - Alice Walker
But- she's for YOU censoring the comments.
Then there is Jeralyn at Talk Left telling people that they aren't allowed to talk about politicans and their pastors.
Ya the hell with free speech and up that censorship baby when it makes you uncomfortable.
The Nanny State in Action.
Nice. Picture of the lake. People having fun.
Meanwhile in NYC, a crane collapses and takes out a four or five story building. Vicinity of Midtown.
Off topic a bit, but this kind of question comes up from time to time.
If there is an "Institute for Legal Studies", there might be an "Institute for Illegal Studies", which in turn engenders the question "What might an Illegal Study be?".

They are called prisons. the old time cons did not call it going away to college for nothing ya know.
Ann: "What self-styled "feminist law professor" is trashing my blog because I'm blogging this conference?"
I would love for you to link to this person trashing your blog. I can't vouch for all your readers, but I promise to behave myself on her site--if it even allows comments. My imagination is not big enough to think of a reason why one feminist would object to another feminist attending such a conference.
The one thought I would have had was that she thinks you are there to ridicule the conference, but you made it clear from your commentary that you take the content of the conference seriously--so that complaint doesn't really make sense.
Maybe she is upset because many of your commenters don't take conferences like this seriously. You attract a large and diverse readership--you have the ears of people who would not often listen to the kinds of things presented at this conference. If you were a doctrinare feminist your audience would be tiny--and they would all agree with everything you say and not poke fun at feminist conference topics.
That would be fun.
A Professor of Resentment Studies needs to be funded within the women's center.
But- she's for YOU censoring the comments.
Where exactly does she say that Ann should censor the comments in her posting, madawaskan? Actually, I know the answer to that question already - nowhere.
Bartow was just criticizing some the comments being made on the postings regarding the conference. Criticism isn't censorship, sorry to tell you. And she was right about the substance of a lot of the comments, many of which were more interested in being dismissive or insulting towards the conference and its participants rather than engaging the ideas, even in a critical manner. That sort of attitude does come off as misogynistic, and Bartow makes it clear it's some of the commenters who have that attitude, not Ann, whom she just accuses of trying to increase traffic to her blog (like that's a bad thing).
Middle Class Guy: I had to censor that, which is the sort of thing they really wouldn't have a sense of humor about.
Oops, I deleted the wrong one at first. Sorry.
Middle Class Guy wrote:
"dbp,
The feminist Law Profs are upset over the comments on this blog, especially the perceived misogeny. They really have no sense of humor over there."
He's right about that!
Ok well there's the suggestion of it.
I think I'm referring more to Jeralyn -but ya given her motto I think she's a tad ironic.
Here's Jeralyn verbatim:
This is an open thread, with a caveat. We are not commenting (and neither should you) about a candidate and his pastor. Any comments about it will be deleted. People have shown they can't discuss it rationally, and what's okay to one person is insulting to another. My decision, with the full support of Big Tent Democrat, is that it will not be on this site
So what fancy name do you call that?
And no Bartow doesn't make it clear exactly what the problem is-ghee should Ann close comments?
My cousin's got a dog poop scoop up website with more hits than that site.
Somefeller: "And she was right about the substance of a lot of the comments, many of which were more interested in being dismissive or insulting towards the conference and its participants rather than engaging the ideas, even in a critical manner. First, if it was traffic I wanted, there are so many other things that I could have written about today that would have attracted much more traffic. In fact, this was a pretty dull topic for this blog. I could have spent a couple hours opining about Jeremiah Wright, for example. I don't know what kind of traffic they get over there — I couldn't find it displayed — but I don't think they are very expert at building a big readership! Showing your sour jealousy at the success of other blogs is definitely not one of the ways.
Second, many commenters are finding academic feminism ridiculous and that is not misogyny. To call it misogyny is to put your lack of thinking and writing skills on display. You're just talking to your insular group, tsking and chiding. Pathetic!
To call it misogyny is to put your lack of thinking and writing skills on display.
Actually it's something else.
The way to keep things from going wrong is to keep them from starting to go wrong. It keeps the outside, outside.
Misogyny is the magic word that serves as a condom.
Still, we all need feminists. They are, after all, women.
Second, many commenters are finding academic feminism ridiculous and that is not misogyny. To call it misogyny is to put your lack of thinking and writing skills on display. You're just talking to your insular group, tsking and chiding. Pathetic!
Actually, I made it clear that not all the comments were misogynistic, by using words like "some" or "a lot", and by focusing on the fact that the comments I was talking about were the ones that were dismissive or insulting, and didn't involve any type of real engagement with the ideas, if even in a critical manner. Doing that in this context does come off as misogynistic, and I suspect that if someone was being dismissive and insulting to you and/or a group of female professors you were working with, and chose not to engage your ideas at all, you'd call that person misogynistic. And you might be right.
As far as my "insular group" is concerned, I have no idea what you're talking about, as I'm not writing for or generally a part of any feminist group, unless donating money to Planned Parenthood counts for that. And as far as my thinking and writing skills go, well, while they may leave a bit to be desired, I think it's clear your reading skills regarding my comment leave a bit to be desired. But it's the end of a long day so I'll be forgiving about it.
One more point - I wasn't accusing you of trying to build up blog traffic. I just said that if that was what you were doing, that wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. And I'm sticking with that.
The best misogyny is fresh misogyny.
There's nothing worse than hegemonic patriarchal, White Supremacist, capitalist, phallocentric narratives of gynocidal domination gone stale.
So a few of us think the country started going downhill with the 19th amendment and immediately we're like the bad guys or something.
Vicki Hearne had a version of feminism that is other than the academic kind, here .
Key phrase, summoning of the dogs in the battle against senselessness and oppression.
I think it's clear your reading skills regarding my comment leave a bit to be desired. But it's the end of a long day so I'll be forgiving about it.
Uh who asked you for forgiveness?
Wow what's up your skirt?
Bitch a crane fell on a townhouse on the upper east side and you are talking about all this lezzie stuff.
4 people died in NYC during the collapse.
The city is in mourning.
Now I need to try and pick up the pieces of my depression and get ready for a fabulous party at a 4 star restaurant in Soho tonight. It won't be easy. I may be wearing a black armband tonight to show my solidarity and to accentuate my bicep.
Is the Pyle Center named after Gomer Pyle?

No prob. It is your site.
Middle Class don't feel bad I get deleted all the time.
Were obviously more alike than we are different.
Now give me a big hug.
Quick Ques fellow republicans.
I just got something in the mail regarding the "tax rebate checks".
If you make over $75,000 a year do you not get one?
If so, that is bullshit.
Thanks so much for your responses.
Your the best.
The Lord is blessing you for being a fellow republican.

And we can celebrate those differences. As to the hugging, let's not get tooooo personal here.
BTW, how are the Clumbers? Still having bowel problems?
"Lake Mendota, today — fishing, kiting." This is what's going on out in back of the Pyle Center, where I'm attending a law-race-feminism conference
And obviously completely enthralled by it. At least you're getting some nice pictures out of it, so it's not a total waste for you, as it will be for the other attendees.
My cousin, Joe Bagadounuts Biaggio forgives you too.
Second, many commenters are finding academic feminism ridiculous and that is not misogyny
I find it (academic feminism) tedious, pretentious, supercilious and completely out of touch with 80% to 90% of the women that they should be attempting to reach.
Nothing misogynist about it. I find almost all academic elitist attitudes the same way as above. People who live in a bubble shouldn't attempt to use detergent.
I was reading 700 Sundays by Billy Crystal. I came across something that reminded me of Eliot Spitzer. Maybe misogyny and feminism apply too, so we are not off topic.
“The penis is not a good thing to get addicted to. Let’s face it, it is a weapon of self destruction and you don’t need UN inspectors to find it. You know right where it is every second.
“This little guy has caused problems for men throughout history. The great Thomas Jefferson had affairs. His boyhood friend Strom Thurmond- same thing. Kennedy, Eisenhower, Clinton… all men of power, and the power went right to their pants.
“Even FDR fooled around. This I don’t understand. Because if you have a chance to screw Eleanor Roosevelt every night of the week, where you going? A great woman without a doubt, but not really a hottie. He actually faked d being paralyzed so he would not have to have sex with her.
“He wasn’t only frightened of fear itself, he was frightened of that overbite.”
The guy gets more or less what he wanted, the continued presence of the female.
He also gets family and squabbles, but that sort of looseness in the system is what makes it work.
It lines up more or less with human motivations and so survives.
OMG-my company is on the front page of the NY Times on Sunday!!
Our products are very very very expensive-but life saving.
If this story impacts my stock I am going to be pissed.
My dear Ann,
It bothers me when liberals trash you. It angers me and it sends me into a funk.
I love the pictures today--where is Lake Mendota? Is it somewhere cold? So much for global warming, huh?
All my best--you are the RAGE around here. Love what you do. You are smart and capable and what you do sticks in the craw of your garden variety liberal like a wedged Birkenstock sandal.
By the way do you, Althouse, send out a special thank you for those of us that gay you money through paypal?
Do we get special invites to special Althouse events and shit like that?
Were the fish biting?

Maxine we already knew about you.
Hopefully, I will be receiving my present in the mail from Althouse (for giving to her blog).
Maybe some faux commertaive faux Babs Bush pearls or perhaps a mug that says Morning in America.
Uh who asked you for forgiveness? Wow what's up your skirt?
That's the best you can come up with? How sad. And misogynist, too, but that is to be expected.
And I give forgiveness, even when unasked for, because of my generous and noble nature, as well as probably the because of what's left of the cultural capital of my Christian upbringing.
commerative
Or maybe as a donor we get special Althouse perks.
Althouse on demand perhaps?
All day, any day when we want some witty blog comment or special picture Althouse will produce one immediately??
OK, I am getting my ass out again tonight.
Here goes, wish me luck.
Last night I did go out and this latin queen swished out of the lavatory and it the door hit me in the face. She knew it hit me in the face and didn't say anything. I walked up to her and said you could of said excuse me and she said it broken english fuck you you old queen. I then, which I kind of feel bad, sad learn to speak english you illegal alien.
Calling my an old queen, was devastating.

Yeah! And more people need to gay me some money!
The other blog supposes blogging on the feminism conference and the unchecked misogyny found here in comments (lest we forget what that looks like) leads to increased page loads. Not so. Pages load on your site in spite of blogging on the feminism conference not because of it. I attribute that to your naturally occurring charm and often acerbic wit combined with exceedingly interesting take downs, I mean, analysis, plus complete lack of jealousy regarding other people's blogs.
Naner naner naner *river dances* *sticks out tongue* Naner naner naner.
So how was that conference, anyway? Worth it? Do they ever have conferences about law, racial indifference , and masculinism? <--See? There's not even a word for it, I must constantly coerce spellcheck into accepting my neologisms.
The internet is ever so useful. Just now I learned Mendota means "bend in the river," no wait, it means , "meeting of the waters," no wait, it means, "great," no wait, it means, "crossing of the trails," no wait, it means "mouth, no wait, it means, "junction of two trails, paths, or roads," no wait, it means, "the mouth of a river, " no wait... OH FORGET IT!!!!
Well, there is a tone of "this is all so silly and I'm blogging about it because it's ridiculous."
Every post seems to subtly/overtly mock the speaker or the topic.
I can see why those ladies (term used loosely!) would be pissed.
But it is mostly ridiculous, so keep at it. You're fun today.
As a hardcore liberal post grad lover of higher education, my mind is boggled at the expense and attention given to these academic dog and pony shows.
I love that phrase.
Dog and Pony Show!

fellow republicans.
I am home now.
I did a plip.
Normally, I anticiapte a plip would be a bottom but it was a fight for the top.
I was like, ok, this isn't working, call me a cab.
Good morning everyone. It's a beautiful morning where I am, and I hope it is where you are too.
Ann, thank you for the lovely photos of people enjoying winter sports on Lake Mendota.
And thank you for this wonderful blog and for letting us range widely in the opinions we express in our postings. This is an interesting place.
As for those who trash your blog - it's only because they are envious of your blog's obvious success.
"what self-styled "feminist law professor" is trashing your blog?"
It just couldn't be Ann Bartow. She's a byword among academic feminists for her rollicking sense of humor, her love of freewheeling open debate, and her refusal to take herself too seriously.
On behalf of the commentariat at Althouse, I apologize to Professor Bartow for our primitive misogyny and I offer her this peace offering; the gift of humor:
How many misogynists does it take to screw in a light bulb?
Just one. It’s not like he’s a girl or anything. And then afterwards, his woman serves him dinner and drinks and then begs him to do her doggy-style with a picture of Ashley Alexandra Dupré scotch-taped to the back of her head.
* rimshot *
There! Now we can all be friends.
You’re welcome.
(Cross-posted here, sort of.)
I was referring to that other blog, not to you.
Fair enough. It looked like you were referring to me, since you were using a comment that I made as the starting point of the discussion. But since that wasn't the intent, not a problem.
Color me freakin SHOCKED that it was Ann Bartow.
