Vlog alert.
I think I'll make a little vlog at about 5 Central Time. At this point, however, I have nothing to say and need inspiration. So if you can think up some questions other than who's going to win the Iowa caucuses or what New Year's resolutions did you make — let me know.

I have no doubt you enjoyed and enjoy your children, but did you enjoy being pregnant or having an infant?
Resolutions... New Year's or otherwise.
Think of the worst thing you could say about Hillary, then DON'T SAY IT!!!!
Trey
Why don't you talk about the Vietnam War and how you feel about it now?
There was a Vietnamese Solzhenitsyn whose name was Nguen Chi Thien. Here's a little article:
http://www.quehuongmedia.com/modules.php?name=News&new_topic=8&file=article&sid=32
I would also like to hear what you have to say about the Duke 88, David horowitz, and Yale Law Professor Anthony Kronman's book Education's End: Why Our Colleges and Universities Have Given Up on the Meaning of Life (Yale UP 2007).
Maybe you could also talk about Woody Allen, and how your view of his work has changed over the years, and where you stand on support for Mia versus the new wife.
I would also like to know your view of French surrealism, and whether or not its literature is better than the feminist existentialism of Simone de B. Com-pare Breton's novel Nadja, for instance, to a similar novel by SdB.
Finally, what are some of the resolutions you have made for the New Year?
Nothing to do with the vlog, but a while ago you asked for music suggestions. Try www.pandora.com. It you seed it with some of the songs you like (can work to) it should be able to find lots more.
This is less than an inspirational question but it's the only thing on my mind at the moment...what brand of paper-shredder do you use? I need one that won't break within 3 months of use. I'm beginning to think that torch-and-burn is the best and cheapest method. But maybe the question should be, do you feel more protected and secure by the use of one?
Gary,
Don't mean to butt-in but, I have a Royal shredder that literally gets abused day in and day out for the last 5 years, 16 pages at a time.
Highly recommended!
GOD SAVE THE AL
What is your greatest fear and how do you cope with it?
I remember a series of posts about 'second sleep' which you vowed to try out. How's it working out for you?
Have you seen any good movies lately?
Is it better to leave the driveway unshovelled until the last flake falls, or try to keep up with Jack Frost's production rate?
Sledding, skating, or snowmobiling?
Who was the best President ever? (James Knox Polk, btw)
What are the characteristics of a good neighbor?
Where do I get these questions from?
At this point, however, I have nothing to say...
Talk about just another day in the life!
What happen - the corner liquor store run out of boxes of wine?
Or did they just cut off your credit?
What will you, a respected law professor at a major university do this year to enrage the pompous douche bags who want to control your blog. Photo's of fat cats sitting on a snow covered roof. Strange Brooklyn graffiti, a museum exhibit of Neferititi, an essay on thrust out blogger titty. Enquiring minds want to know.
Kibaki or Odinga?
God save the DH.
Would Cassandra be thought of differently if she vlogged?
I sense you are more at home and at ease in Madison but that Brooklyn suits you well, particularly in your neighborhood wanderings and your visual interests where Brooklyn really excels...true? and if true, are you more of a visual or aural person? and how does that preference work into your legal eagle profession?...do you enjoy the written word for instance, the art of a well written sentence, over the sound of a well spoken argument.
God save the Hd.
Central time or Eastern time?
Will you stay up tonight to watch the late night shows return live?
Letterman or Leno?
Eh, better idea..
The repusive and ignorant commentary on Benazir Bhutto following her death, especially the Ignatius piece which opened with a description of how cool she was in her Rolling Stones t-shirt, the Cohen op-ed in the Times in which he recalls being in her dorm room...late at night, and the preposterous essay by Bernard-Henri Levy which begins, "They have killed a woman. A beautiful woman."
Here's a piece from the Ottawa Citizen by David Warren who describes her as she really was...a gluttonous and incompetent parasite.
Thank you dax.
I've asked this before, but I'd like to know how you decide whether to buy a book on CD vs. dead tree vs. (now) Kindle.
Would it be very confusing for you if every time you called your sister Dell, someone in India answered the phone?
When I call Dell support, I tell them that I'm Bobby Jindal, and boy do I get results.
Why don't you talk about something about which you have changed your mind? There is a forum on this at Edge.com and it's really interesting....
Have you changed your mind about anything in 2007? You could talk about that.
I'd like to hear your constructive critique of the New York Times. I have trouble squaring:
1) how you could do work for such a Lefty propaganda machine [thats *abusing* Freedom of the Press]
with
2) your rational and seemingly Moderate Democrat positions here.
Its kinda a Jeckel-Hyde thing ;)
I'm not meaning to be judgemental.
I'm just curious re the psychology behind it:
...how does someone who is intelligent, has a high appreciation the US Constitution and an above average understanding of politics... find themselves enabling such an obvious propaganda rag as the NYTs?
I'm beginning to think that torch-and-burn is the best and cheapest method.
Gary,
The new police department being formed by Al Gore will have you arrested for burning. It is a capital offense. You will be executed to reduce your carbon foot print.
fen...
perhaps you prefer the washington times? why do you have to say such stupid things. i swear.
I thought you gave up swearing for the New Year?
hdhouse: perhaps you prefer the washington times? why do you have to say such stupid things. i swear.
Ha. I'll be gentle for once, and pretend you didn't just break your New Year's resolution. ;)
I don't follow the Washington Times. While it was a good source of information routinely censored by rags like the LA and NYTs, I found it wasn't "Fair & Balanced" to the Left.
And before you go there, I stopped watching FOX shortly after the 2000 Election Recount. They've [sadly] become nothing better than the Entertainment Channel.
So while I'm sure you find the NYTs to be "centrist" [cough], I'm only interested in how someone more intelligent & with a greater appreciation for the truth could lend her pen to the New York Times.
And again Ann, its a free country and you can do whatever floats your boat. Not my place to judge, so please don't take offense. I'm just curious how you found yourself entertaining offers to associate your name with the NYTs.
perhaps because its the best newspaper in the world?
I much prefer the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Not because it is a better paper. Not because it is not biased. It’s just because I like to say Picayune.
"...perhaps because its the best newspaper in the world?" - Mary Mapes, The Memo Was Never Proven False!, p3
[hehe]
Vlog done. Uploading. Hang on.
I had to do it twice. I screwed up the recording on the first one (in which I answered more of the questions).
Fen, are you hostile to William Kristol for going to work at the Times?
i'm personally pissed at the times for allowing him space.
Fen, are you hostile to William Kristol for going to work at the Times?
No, I find it to be a type of tokenism, an attempt to repair the paper's credibility. It also remains to be seen if the NYTs will tolerate him over an extended period of time. How long do you think they'll keep him on? That would be an interesting prediction to follow.
But I'm more interested in your mindset re working for the NYTs. I'm just trying to understand what *I* see as a contradiction: the NYTs had a horrible year: its stock tanked, it printed legal warfighting intell for our enemies to read, it served as Leak Central for disgruntled CIA and State "sources" who undermined policy they disagreed with... not to mention all the usual MSM "mistakes", hyperbole, distortion, dishonesty that is more typical of a CBS venue produced by Mary Mapes [Dowdism, etc.]
I would have the same question if you were a "moderate" Republican who chose to guest-host Rush.
BTW, "I don't find the NYTs to be biased" or "I don't agree with the way you set you the question" is a fair response [I was just giving HD a little hell, sorry HD].
/typo
Didn't mean to put moderate in scare quotes. Ignore that please.
/sheesh, another one
"I don't agree with the way you set up the question" is a fair response
I'm afraid my entire line of questioning may be misinterpreted as an offensive attack. My intent is not to browbeat or convert you, so I'll withdraw it. Bring it up later if you want.
Instead, maybe you could share some inside baseball on what it was like to work for the NYTs. What do you feel they do right VS what they do wrong? I think your conservative commenters would be interested in your perspective. I can't think of another Democrat, [liberal or moderate] that I would trust to respond objectively.
art pulls her from Law, it wants to keep her
I heard a vigil was held for one of the kids killed by the tiger. That made me wonder what vigils were for. So I looked it up and now I really don't know. If a vigil, if I have this right, is like one giant pity-party, then shouldn't a vigil be more appropriately held for the tiger?
That tiger story really got me. I don't know why, and I hate myself for this, but I'd burst out laughing every time it was mentioned. Then I'd feel really really sorry for the tiger. But hardly nothing at all for the human victims, not even the parents of the kids. The whole time I keep thinking, "now here's evolution in process right before my eyes." And then a pang of guilt for all that. I would vlog about that.
