"When do we start using "Kaus" as a shorthand for someone who argues in one direction at all times, but explicitly holds the opposing position as a hedge?"
Nice try at staying above the "fray", but seriously, the Edwards rumors didn't possibly come from Republicans - which of them has anything to fear from Edwards? He won't possibly be the nominee.
A female witness, in the trial of a man charged with screwing a goat, is asked what she saw as the man finished up the screwing.
"The goat twisted around and licked his balls," she said.
As the entire gallery in the courtroom murmured in disapproval, a local farmer, who was also the Jury Foreman leaned over to a female Juror and whispered:

Heh, oh yea, because Republicans and right wingers would NEVER smear John Edwards:

GIBSON: Our John Gibson program fraud alert today focuses on the biggest fraud running for president, and that takes some doing. We're talking about the Breck Girl, Silky, the former senator from North Carolina, the baron of a 28,000-square-foot manse, the protector of the poor while ensconced on a pillow of 100 million dollars.
ANGRY RICH: A man who whored his wife's cancer as a fundraising gimmick.
No substance, no humor above the middle school level, and you are giving audience to unsavory school yard taunts about a man whose work I enjoy reading.
Why such nastiness, Ann? Or are you wishing you were Sylvia?
Christy said..."No substance, no humor above the middle school level..."
I'll have you know I've told that goat joke to people who are highly educated (some even Republicans, but mostly very smart Democrats) and they've ALL loved it.
*It goes over especially well at holiday functions.
Dr. Helen has a pet whippet she calls Devo. Even when the winsome hound sticks her head in the flower pot, she stills says: “Good doggie, whippet good.”
This sentence made me laugh more than Kaus tossing goat salad, or vice versa: "but that's why we . . . don't operate with an assumption of guilt!" He left off "for Democrats!"
John Stodder said..."The netroots are so cutting-edge! Why, they're gonna pick the next prez! Democracy at last!"
No...just a Democracy or Republic more aligned with what the Founding Fathers envisioned.
Over the last 7 years we've experienced a non-stop onslaught on our Constitution and Civil Rights.
Non-stop? Wow. That Bush guy is a lot more industrious than we thought.
Roughly how much of the Constitution is left? Five percent? Two percent? By now it must be pretty much gone.
And America is so different now! It's so Jesusland! Back in 2000, we were able to have an intelligent sort-of liberal guy like Clinton for president. But now, as the 2008 election approaches, because of the nonstop "onslaught" on our Constitution and Civil Rights, odds are we're going to elect...Clinton's wife.
True, she's going to have to win despite the widespread jailing of liberals, the shutdown of the New York Times and Daily Kos, denial of voting rights to minorities, and the requirement that you can recite the Sermon on the Mount by heart before you can cast a ballot. But that didn't stop the Democrats from taking over Congress in 2006.
So, let's hear about your personal struggle, LOS. The personal is the political, after all. How are you less free than you were seven years ago? What Constitutional protections do you no longer have? Because I hear this rhetoric from guys like you and I scratch my head, wondering what you're referring to.
I can't figure out what Yglesias is complaining about. I read Kaus's comment that "it's a direct attack on the integrity of *someone*" as referring to the fact that someone is obviously lying -- either the paper, or its source, or Edwards. Kaus isn't presuming guilt so far as I can tell.
I, however, amused by the fact that Yglesias still seems to think Scott Beauchamp was *falsely* accused of faking those stories...
Apparently "the onslaught on the Constitution" hasn't made any difference in LuckyOldSon's life at all.
If it had, I would think he would have told us about it, instead of just flinging another dried cowpie in my direction.
LOS, I am paying you the utmost respect by assuming you mean the words you say, precisely. I assume that you have something specific in mind that has affected you personally when you talk about the "onslaught on the Constitution." So please, just explain what you meant.

Because I am a loyal reader, and only that, I waded through half the comments looking for a reference that you thought worthy of posting about.
I had to give up and exit that cesspool of rumor.
let's find something else, while I go shower.
"When do we start using "Kaus" as a shorthand for someone who argues in one direction at all times, but explicitly holds the opposing position as a hedge?"
Ha!
the question is
are they nubian goats...
or are they loyal american goats...
I was reading the comments, until I noticed trademark dave's comment: "Kaus silence on goatblowing continues - Day 1!"
Glad he found a home.
Hey Kaus! Look at this !

Another round of Democrat sliming Democrat.
Speaking of goats, etc...

"You know, a good goat'll do that."

Trooper York said..."Ann Coulter has a pet gerbil named Julian Kaye..."
Gerbil?
Ann deserves a woodchuck.
Glenn Reynolds' has a pet monkey. He calls him Johnny Walker.
Trooper York said..."Lucky, gerbils are more frisky..."
I hate to ask this, but...how do YOU know?
The netroots are so cutting-edge! Why, they're gonna pick the next prez! Democracy at last!
Trooper York said..."Lucky it's a big world out there. Watch a TV show!"
What time does the Gerbil Show come on...and what's the channel?
Trooper York,
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, "LOGO."
Now I understand...I just never visit the site.
Good stuff?

Trooper, I have never spoken about gerbils in any of these threads.
I have repeatedly talked about my rare clumbers (only 270 registered in the US) but never once mentioned a gerbil.
That is a lie and blasphemous.
I have a reputation to uphold and this is quite damaging to me.
I demand an apology.
I am an all american girl who deserves better than that type of slander.
Who would do Kaus? He is one ugly mofo. And that personality, at least if you are physically repulsive have a personality to make up for it.
Titus, sorry dude, it was just a joke and I didn't want to hurt your feelings. Don't take it personally, I was just being stupid. All the best.
I was also kidding Trooper. I have done just about everything but a gerbil.
Of course what goes on in the privacy of your own home is between you and Parrots and Pups. A girl is definitely entitled to her secrets.

Oh, Johnny Stoddard...you just keep that head firmly planted up G.W.'s ass.
Maybe he'll send you a cookie.
revenant,
are you serious?
are you serious?
About how I read Kaus' comment? Yes. Kaus also corrected Yglesias' misunderstanding in a more recent post.
