Coy C. Privette.

What a perfect name for a man with this problem!

Found via Andrew Sullivan, who seems happy as ever to see a "Christianist" fall. But, good Lord, what a minuscule character! "Cabarrus County commissioner and retired Baptist minister." The bigger they are the harder they fall. But aren't some folks so small that, when they fall, we should hear nothing?

Absolutely nothing is too low for Andrew Sullivan. Nothing.

Couldn't agree more! And the Cabarrus County commissioner doesn't sound too worthy of our attention either.

Years ago I recall seeing Andrew on some talk show making the comment that he certainly didn't want to be considered a "gay writer and editor" ,more a writer that "happened to be gay".

Judging from his current writing, it appears he now sees the world through only one filter.

This is doubly embarassing for the poor guy. First, he's caught with a prostitute, and then it's revealed that the prostitute is ugly. I mean, if you're paying for it, you ought to at least pay for something good.

Minuscule ... two things are minuscule about Sullivan ... his intellect and his ...

never mind.

Andrew Sullivan is so yesterday. He's become unreadably mean, self absorbed and one dimensional.

Although I wish the guy could find something that would make him a happier man, I've long known my Mom (among others) was right: most people are about as happy as they decide they want to be.

Quoting Andrew S disproves the quote to which you refer.

When miniscule Andrew falls on his face, he makes a sound which you hear, & acknowledge, alas.

Nobody quotes La Rochefoucauld when these things happen:

“Hypocrisy is the homage that vice plays to virtue”

I'll go out on a limb and guess that within a week Privette will be described as a "key advisor to the Bush Administration".

Another highly important and influential member of the GOP that 99.98% of GOPers had never heard of.

Or "a leading Republican politician", at the very least. Perhaps "a major figure in the Christianist movement".

Jeremy: It seems he paid for "it" with a couple checks, which he later reported stolen. [Note to Coy: don't piss off your sex worker.]

Was Privette really hypocritcal? He lobbied against alcohol and gambling. The article was silent about checks-for-sex.

From Inwood: Tempting, but Sullivan isn't nearly as minuscule. He's a professional pundit, writes for Time (isn't it Time now?), and is widely quoted by various people at various times.

And while I think more people should quote La Rouchefoucald on this sort of thing, I don't think it's true that nobody does; I've seen that very quote within the past week, though I can't remember where.

"Cabarrus county commissioner"

A U.S. county named after Theresia Cabarrus, "Notre Dame de Thermidor?" While serving as mistress to several unappetizing French politicans, she helped engineer an end to the Reign of Terror. How did Sullivan manage to overlook such sacrifice in the service of one's country?

Ruth Anne Adams said...

Sigivald: Reader_iam quoted it in the comments on this very blog.

Whoever claimed Cabarrus County was named after some French mistress needs to do better research. Cabrrus County was named after Stephen Cabarrus, a prominent member of the state legislature in the late 1700s.

Coy C. Privette once CHEWED my ass out early one morning at camp and I deserved every bit of it!! I never forgot it!! Coy was a great influence on an entire generation of Young people at NKBC back in the 60's. Now, I finally know after all these years that He's HUMAN just like the rest of us!!! One can spend an entire lifetime building a reputation and it can be gone in a flash!

A Great Man once said" let he among us that is without sin cast the first stone"!!!!

What a jerk, he didn't even pay her.

He declared the checks he wrote for "services rendered" as stolen.

Any misfortunate creature that "services" this 74 year old pervert for profit is EARNING her money, big time.

What a complete douchebag and a complete waste of 74yrs of life experience.

James Sterling Parks Reid, you're assuming he "chewed you out" in order to make you a better person, yes?

How do you know that he wasn't chewing you out because he has control issues, or because it turned him on?

You don't know WHAT this guy thinks... he clearly lives two lives.
