Here's one I took of my colleague Steph Tai:
Chris figured out the way to arrange things with the lighting on the face, but before I started copying his style, I was experimenting with the shadows produced by the ceiling spotlights. Here's one I did of Chris (including much more of the great poster):

She is contemplating pi - I'm sorry but she is too tense, too much logic, nothing evocative about the pose, a law book has maybe just fallen on her foot or an endangered tort has been spotted in the rafters swinging wildly about like a demented Tarzan. She probably didn't want you fiddling around with her hair and glasses and moving her arms about....
My Tai,
Nice try!
Ms. Althouse...the vote is in: No. 270.
Did Ms. Tai attend MIT?
Prof. Tai is kinda, um... I'm thinking she is able to keep the students' interest in Admin Law classes unlike a lot of the bookish fossils that often wind up teaching it.
Does she still blog by any chance?
Jeez Goesh...
Sometimes a photograph is just a photograph.
She looks lovely.
If this is all part of that anti-libertarian kick you are on, I have no complaints.
Ms. Tai is thinking one of two things:
1. Is that thing hanging over my head going to fall and possibly kill me?
2 I am sooo starting my own blog and using it to become a better diva that Althouse ever dreamed possible!
YOu have kind of a Hurrell thing goin' on. Looks good!
Both Goesh and Mark the Pundit are right. It's not a good portrait. I'm sure she's lovely, but she looks more apprehensive and tense than the alluring creature she may well be. And the pic of Ann in the same chair looks like a dentist's-eye view.
Ann, thanks for the reminder because I really did forget! That is such a great photo location, I'm tempted to fly out to Madison and pose there myself but I doubt it will have the same feel as the others.
Ah, the context we bring to our interpretation.
I disagree with goesh, et al. To my mind she gives the appearance of contemplating a pleasant, if not inspiring, work of art.
Three points: (1) Regarding Ann Althouse, I have voted and the tally stands at 1,041 votes total with our hostess way in the lead with 30% at 314; (2) regarding colleague Steph Tai, (a) she looks absolutely fetching in every possible way, (b) her posture is excellent, (c) she understands that settee perfectly and (d) the gorgeous colors (if not the proportions) reminds me of this (I used to breed them); (3) regarding Chris, I am sometimes a fidgety observer of art and I felt the strong urge to use the second-to-last of my remaining wishes and wish him into the poster, itself, for the rest of eternity, but I refrained because it occurred to me (a) he might not like that and (b) that photo itself accomplishes all that ever need be done.
Congratulations and thank you for what I hope is the second installment of a continuing series.
Mr. Snitch,
I never said the portrait of Ms. Tai was not good. In fact, I think it is a quite good pitcure. I was just trying to determine what she is thinking about since she looks like she could be in deep thought...
Both shoes look far better than the ones Chad Johnson had on last night before his team fell before Indianapolis.
Is there a 2007 UW-Madison Law Divas Calendar in the works?
(proceeds to some appropriate charity of course)
(seems you have two months covered already)
Is your colleague...single?
Did Ms. Tai attend MIT?
Answering my own question -- after googling a little bit I see that she is, indeed, the person I thought she was.
I went to high school with her. Nice girl (brilliant too).
Looks like she's in a dentist's chair waiting for the hygienist to adjust the light.
Bounce flash.
