"We have changed the way people view what it means to be Finnish..."
"... and those people who didn’t believe in us have been forced to go into hiding," A country's whole identity is caught up in heavy metal music.

GWAR > Lordi
From the NYT article: The lionizing of the former outcasts has reached such surreal heights that there are plans in the works for a Lordi postage stamp, Lordi action figures, a Lordi comic book series, Lordi commemorative coins and Lordi the movie — a horror film starring the band members as themselves.
In other words, Lordi is going to repeat all of the mistakes KISS made in the late 1970s. Can a disco album be far behind?
"Paging Dr. Santayana. Paging Dr. George Santayana. You're needed in the Jumping the Shark Ward, STAT!"

I was in high school for all that. I carry the mental scars to this day.
A people who stood off the USSR back in tha day, and then tried to tag team 'em with The Third Reich can only be described as "headbangin'."
Hard Dog Hallelujah! This article makes me love the Finns. And I love Finnish names - Tarja Halonen, Matti Vanhanen, Tomi Putaansuu - they sound so sci-fi! And I have a new dream. To start a band and win the Eurovision Song Contest.
Lordi is the reincarnation of Def Leppard with a full complement of arms.
Lordi is NOT heavy metal. They are costumed metal-pop.
Real Scandinavian heavy metal is a thing to behold. Lordi is a comic diversion.
