"I feel like I'm missing out on life."
Says Britney Spears in a little video that I think is quite sweet and charming but that the Daily Mail is calling bizarre and irrational and saying "has shocked fans worldwide." I don't know this isn't exactly the picture people have of celebrities hanging out on their own time. And she's eating butterbeans -- she says so -- not "what appears to be takeaway chicken and chips." It must be hard for the British to hear Southern. She feels she's missing out on life. Jeez, where is your empathy?

In a strange way, that video makes me like her a little better than before. One thing that struck me is that her accent is so thick and that she has hidden that for most of her career.
I haven't watched the video, but I have little sympathy for someone with a toddler and who is pregnant complaining that they're missing out on life. Parents of very young aren't supposed to have a life. Life will begin again for her when her kids enter school, unless she doesn't actively participate in their raising, in which case it'll start sooner.
I thought her "missing out on life" isn't so much about pregnancy, as about growing up onstage. She never had an adolescence. I feel sorry for her, because I don't think that you let 12-year-olds decide to give up their schools, friends and hometown to be a star. That's something stage parents decide, and push their kids into. She has indeed missed out on a lot of life.
I agree with Ann that there's some British snobbery about Southerners going on here. I read that Daily Mail article, and expected some horror show when I clicked on the video. But she looks fine, and sounds just like any young woman her age. Accent? What accent, y'all? (just kidding, price.)
Yeah, I thought she meant she missed out from childhood on. Note what she's talking about. She believed "Back to the Future" was a new movie.
I agree Elizabeth. Her parents seem to either live vicariously or are just overwhelmed by the obscene amounts of money being thrown at their (then) 15 year old daughter. Of course they have money now and seem willing to let their other daughter go down the same road.
If she seems a little regressed she's making up for lost time perhaps (or is that an excuse for immaturity?) She has however committed a cardinal sin (and one in which I will hammer home to my kids) -- she married a LOSER. Many things in life can be overcome, overcoming marrying a loser is difficult. It's easier with money perhaps.
The question is - will she shoot Kevin for releasing this?
She's just like Kellie Pickler, except with no class and less talent.
I've always felt badly for her. She's never been any more than a vehicle for her mother's aspirations. She not only missed out on childhood, she missed out on being the child of people who cared about *her*. She's not alone in that, but she's not alone in my pity either.
And, unlike other little Mommy stars, I don't think her parents ever bothered to get her the kind of finishing she needed so as not to come off as a bit of a hick. And yet we judge her not her puppeteers.
Personally, I like her more after watching the video. She seems nice enough.
I thought the video was sort of sweet too. It kind of makes me want to hand her a mug of hot chocolate with marshmallows in it.
I'm not really that familar with her or her music, but I did read the Rolling Stone story about her in 1999 when she was 17. I remember being angry at how they over-sexualized her while playing up her youth with a disgusting jailbait/Lolita photo spread.
I'm not sure this is even a recent video.
She doesn't look pregnant in it.
I'll bet it was made before her first kid was born.
Although teeth grinding, itching and twitching are symptoms of a meth user.
Behold, the irresistable allure of gawking at celebs. I never understood star-worship, but well, I don't understand a lot of things.
She's human like the rest of us. We don't make videos of ourselves burping and scratching, but I think she deserves some slack for having grown up in such a crazy way.
Am I giving her more slack because she's a young, (still-) attractive woman? Probably.
