Forgive me, but Photo Booth is quite the distraction, even during an interesting phone call. It's the new doodling... and it's so self-absorbed.

Your Photo Booth experiments are looking quite Andy Warhol-ish. Maybe you could do some studies of Campbell Soup cans. (Or, for the sake of being a contrarian, you could try Progresso cans.)

If you're considering it as a blog portrait, it is a bit too serious,(dour?) for my taste. Seems more appropriate for a Hamsher-style website. Your smile, or the hint of it breaking out, is, to me, quintessential Althouse. BWDIK (other than the fact that I'm jealous of that computer)?
You need to know that the Andy Warholosity of this is built into Photo Booth. Not something I did.

Yeah. The one yesterday was straight from the machine. This one, I only modified by putting into black and white. Go to my Flickr site to see more. They're mostly straight out of Photo Booth.
It's fitting that Photo Booth pays hommage to Warhol, since many of Warhol's early commissioned portraits and self portraits started out as actual photo booth pictures.
I am beyond impressed by the Etch-A-Sketch art. And on a pocket version too.

She bangs out those Etch-a-Sketch pix in maybe 20 minutes. Complex manipulations are required to scan them though (can't flip them upside-down), and th ebest are really lost to posterity, unfortunately.

I thought that was photoshopped or something. She actually does those with an etch-a-sketch!? That's amazing!
BTW, Ann, I really like your new profile pic, in a an Electric Kool Aid Acid Test kind of way. It's very bright and shiny! (your best smile to date!)
On the other hand, such a pic could also be seen in a demonic light, just due to the color contrast! It's odd how this technique affects our perceptions...

Well, yeah, Dave, she actually did mention the art you link to on that page. But I point out: (1) Mariam typically takes 20 minutes, this guy takes many hours. I've seen Mariam do comparable (though not equal) quality work, given more time, and (2) He uses a shading technique which, apparently, Mariam considers cheating (turn it upside down, tap a liitle, then go back over the things you want darker.) I disagree that it's cheating but then again she uses a Mini so it might be harder.
Of course he still wins. But she's got a day job. _And_ she did Althouse.
Sanjay: LOL. I love the staunch Etch-a-Sketch purism.
Hah...I don't consider it cheating. Just a complication lending itself to a "process" that takes 50 to 70 hours.
One might argue that it's sort of a time-waster to begin with, but if one can go from concept to finish in under an hour...it's more like a hand-eye coordination exercise.
There are a lot of things one can do with the extra 69 hrs: that's like watching every episode of Battlestar Galactica ever (classic, miniseries, 33 new episodes) and still having ~19 hours to sleep afterwards; it's like...2 weeks' worth of TV time.
