It all started with Revelation 13:18 in the Bible: "This calls for wisdom: let him who has understanding reckon the number of the beast, for it is a human number, its number is six hundred and sixty-six."If there is a God, do you think there's a chance in Hell that he smiles on your superstitiousness?
This calls for wisdom...
Why doesn't that phrase get more attention? Wise up, people! Numerology, in all its manifestations, is utterly pathetic.
Do you think there are people in this world who think I'm an agent of Satan for writing this post? I do!

Even if the prophecy in revalations was true, wouldn't the date anticipated be 6/6/06 by theJulian calendar, not the Gregorian calendar?
Yes, Simon, I think the "real" 6/06/06 was sometime in 2002.
Perhaps this was meant as a joke for the Romans officials who would translate the text, searching for signs of insurgency, as DCLXVI (roman numerals, sequentially backward) as a code is about the equivalent of the "1-2-3-4-5" air shield combination from Spaceballs.
I can't believe these morons are getting worried about a silly day.
And yes - those who believe this "666" stuff ARE morons.
Because we all know the real number is "616". It's June 1st we're supposed to be scared of! Me - I flew back and forth from Australia the other day to make sure I missed that day entirely.

I would think that children conceived tomorrow would be the evil ones.
Still, if the phone rings at 6:06 tomorrow, I'm not answering!
You're right on, Ann. The Bible condemns all superstitiousness, although there are images or ideas sometimes represented by numbers.
Forty, as in forty days and forty nights and forty years, is thought to have meant "a long time," as in contemporary phrases like "a month of Sundays." (That doesn't preclude forty references from being taken literally.)
"Seven," because of the Genesis 1 account of creation is the number of completeness, remembering that on the seventh day, God declared all His creative work, "very good." (And given the wonders of the universe, who can disagree with that assessment?)
In the Gospel of John, "eight" as in "eight days later" or "on the eighth day" represents the new creation that issues from Jesus' resurrection for all with faith in Him. The eighth day is God giving all creation another chance at wholeness, a state of being marred by the condition of sin.
"Six," because of the same Genesis account, sometimes represented incompletion or even alienation from God.
Most interpretations of the New Testament book of Revelation are hogwash that pay no attention to the book's historical context or the fact that it's a "Johannine" document, its authorship attributed to John the Evangelist, who employed a rich mixture of Hebrew and Greek images and philosophical ideas in his writing.
Many ancient texts have the number in Revelation as "616" anyway. But whether that or "666" is irrelevant. Numerology isn't Biblical or Christian.
Mark
God actually declared everything "very good" on the sixth day, according to the Genesis 1:1-2:3 account of creation. But on the seventh day, He rested at the conclusion of this perfect week.
Agent of Satan from this post? Come on Ann, everyone knows your satanic agency is due to other reasons.
And why doesn't the fact that it's the 62nd anniversary of D-Day get more attention?
You can't have an apocolypse on a Tuesday. Too inconvenient.
Doomsday is always Friday, or Sunday, after all the Saturday evening partying.
Peace, Maxine

This immediately put me in mind of what, in my opinion, is an under-sung novel by more-known-as-playwright Thornton Wilder.
Mark, in particular, if you've not read it, perhaps you might want to consider doing so. It came in the latter days of Wilder's long career, and won a National Book Award, well deserved, IMHO.
I do recommend the book generally. Though there would be no problem if it were, it's not a specifically "religious" book, in the sense that people of that now.
But it does deal with issues of rebirth; second chances; received, earned and personal wisdom; and so forth.
Then there's that little thing about just being a good story and read ... .
Having grown up in Christian conservative churches, the number 666 was not considered a date really, but rather a mark that would be placed on your hand or forhead.
Those who worry about such things tend to feel that the mark represents some type of world economic system (run by the anti-Christ), that people will have to submit to, or work around to survive.
Hence you will find many conservative and/or conservative Christian types very wary of anything that involves national ID cards, or implanting ID numbers in the skin.
Funny thing is, due to identity theft and other crime, invariably our numbers will ultimately take a more biological form, thus freaking out a whole subset of the population.
And Ann is an agent of Satan, but due to another post, where she uttered the words, "Sean is adorable", which, if said backwards, means, "Take the mark of the beast and you will be beautiful and win Apprentice". I am never reading this blog again! Until, like, you know, tomorrow.
"I'm an agent of Satan"
I'd assumed you were a mere minion, when did you get the promotion? Is it like tenure?
Isn't this just pseudo-numerology, since there have been other dates with these numbers and nothing happened? Isn't the real date we have to worry about 12/12/2012 when the Mayan calendar says that time runs out?
I can't believe they remade the Omen, the first one was perfect in its cheesy creepiness. *And* it has Gregory Peck.
Maxine says: You can't have an apocolypse on a Tuesday.
9/11/2001 fell on a Tuesday.
I THINK EVERYONE SHOULD BE FOCUSED ON THE POPE.... WHO IS THE TRUE ANTI-CHRIST!!! ANYBODY EVER PAID ATTENTION TO THE WRITING ON HIS HAT? IT SAYS "VICTUS FILI DEU" LOTS OF PEOPLE THINK IT IS LATIN.. WELL SORRY TO INFORM YOU ALL THAT IT IS INFACT ROMAN NUMERALS.... AND WHEN YOU ADD IT ALL TOGETHER IT EQUALS 666!!!!!!!! HOW CONVIENIENT THAT THE CHURCH WHO HAS CORRUPTED THE WORLD HAS BEEN INFILTRATED BY THE ANTICHRIST. COINCIDENCE I THINK NOT!!!
Firstly, in response to Johnny Nucleo: Criss Angel isn't Satan. I believe he's a Greek Orthodox Christian. He spells his name "Criss", one can assume, for marketing purposes. And since when does the devil wear balck eye liner? That's the most retarded thing I've heard, along with the concept of "demonology camp". Many other weirdos go around in black and listen to heavy metal. Are they Satan? Criss Angel admits that everything he does is fake and that it's merely an illusion.
Secondly, in response to the random person saying stupid stuff: The Roman Catholic Church isn't satanic. That is so, Latin or maybe Greek. I could translate it, but I'm lazy. And FYI, if you try hard enough almost everything can total 666, which by the way, is the number code for NERO, not the devil, you crazed baboons. Nero, was an evil emperor guy who the Jews feared, ere go, they gave him the code name 666. Take the word "dumb" for example. Flip the d around to get a b. b looks like a 6, so now we have a 6um6. um, once translated to some other text, would most likly equal 6. Valid conclusion: 666 means nothing. And the pope isn't the antichrist, you twit, and church hasn't corrupted the world. In fact, the catholic church alone does more charity than any other organization. It's the poorly educated people who think 666 is demonic that are really taking a toll on humanity.
All of you who are offering weird quotes from revelations or are claiming the 666=satan-stupid stuff, go actually READ the book of revelations and stop taking snippits out of context. Maybe learn some history, while you're at it.
