"One of the great plug-ugly he-man overacting contests ever committed to celluloid."

That's A.O. Scott's description of Ernest Borgnine and Gene Hackman in "The Poseidon Adventure." They've done a remake of it, you may have noticed. Apparently, it sucks.

The original was a cliche ridden POS, why remake it into a newer cliche ridden POS?

Apparently, it was necessary to extract all the humor.

Hey! Watch what you say about the original -- it was responsible for a classic Mad Magazine parody that is still talked about today on teh Intarweb.

If you believe Wired, that issue of Mad sold more than any other before or since.

The best of cinema and the worst should be left for the judgement of history. Apparently DR Zhivago was redone. Now Poseidon.

The only things that should be redone are great books, badly done in their first movie attempts. like the LOTR animated movie.

The original is a glorious schlock fest!

A recent film that embodied the same deliriously tacky charm was TV's 10.5. I'm hoping for a rerun soon.

"How are they going to top Shelley Winters swimming?"

Thanks a lot! I spent years suppressing that memory. Now, if you will excuse me, I need to make an appointment with my therapist.

I saw the movie Friday night and loved every minute of it. I'm a sucker for a big wave and thought it was an exciting ride.

And who needs Shelly when you have the incomparable Dreyfuss and his big diamond earing?
