At the show's set -- designed to look like a middle-class Indian neighborhood -- Mrs. Bush and Indian social activist Nafisa Ali met [a 5-year-old inquisitive girl named] Chamki at a phone booth that doubles as cybercafe. Then they stopped outside a house to greet Bhoombah, who asked in his gruff voice how the first lady was doing.Sorry I don't have a film clip! I don't know if there are cybercafes on the American "Sesame Street," but it's certainly not set in a middle-class neighborhood.
"I'm doing great," replied Mrs. Bush....

Laura Bush "chatted with a giant, colorful lion named Bhoombah who believes he is a descendant of one of India's many former kings."
She was visiting the set of "Galli Galli Sim Sim," the Indian "Sesame Street":

No, no, no. I am talking about George Bush here, not David Hasselhoff. Please Slippery, try to be an it-getter.
Sip, I don't think I've ever seen a more on-target character description. You are a master it-getter!
I think it would be interesting for everyone to chime in with how far into quckoo's cut-and-paste job they got before skipping to the next comment.
It's really cool the scope of quckoo's anti-Bush file clippings. You can picture him having spent the last 6 years amassing these little snippets to be whipped out at the slightest provocation. Think of that scene in "A Beautiful Mind" where the walls are papered in news clippings with red lines drawing all kinds of crazy connections from one story to another. =)
One of the Bush daughters could visit Mongolia and quckoo would have a plagarized article comparing Bush to Ghengis Khan posted in the comments of an American Idol posting within 15 minutes!
The article is a little irritating, since it doesn't make it clear that the series itself won't even be on TV until June. I was excited -- I'm an American living in Bangalore for the next few months, and thought I could pick up a little Hindi with it.

Dude, Oscar the Grouch totally has WI-FI.

Regarding the Indian Sesame Street. What does a middle-class Indian neighborhood look like?
Like many "developing countries", Indian cities tend not to have middle-class neighbourhoods by American standards.
It's either well-to-do areas, or poor areas, although to be sure, some see themselves as middle-class.
I forget the names of the streets in Bombay which the moneyed classes lived, but truly, they had every amenity we would have here.
In fact, more.
Cheers,
Victoria
It's a little story about an inoffensive lady on a children's program. Get a grip, man.
Save it.
Ann already intimated that he's as welcome here as you or I.
Live with it, or die an awful death involving mango chutney and Wesson Oil!
Cheers,

Well, I certainly like the diversity of opinon here and want Ann to encourage it, but the constant hijacking of threads by the same person IS distracting and, worse, really boring.
There! Are you happier now?
I do, in fact, object to Quxxo's cutting and pasting big blocks of text into the comments. I've deleted this sort of thing before and just did it again.
I'm also sick of the narcissism of making threads be about him. Especially since he's not even interesting, but a predictable, plodding bore, who couldn't get an audience on his own blog.
The notion that I approve of this sort of thing is a misreading of something I wrote in the comments to another post. And I don't like having my opinions distorted.
It wasn't a rant, it was a fair use quotation from February 28th of what Gandhi's grandchildren on their perception of GWB's visiting their grandfather's memorial.
It wasn't plagiarism, or a rant, or a narcissistic threadjack to make the thread about me. Nor did I make any claim about Ann's opinions in any form.
Arguably, it was a cut and paste job, though I think it differed in that I provided, as I try to do, a link to the original source.
It may have been offtopic, though for the life of me, I can't determine just what the topic of Ann's post was. Putting on my SAT hat, I guess the theme of her post was that NEELESH MISRA of the Chron is lying when she said the set was in a middle-class Indian neighborhood. I would imagine that Ann knows more about that than Neelish. Or perhaps Ann was just vague and meant to say that Ann felt it was not set in a middle-class American neighborhood. I wonder why Ann feels that the American and Indian middle classes should have similar looking neighborhoods, or be surprised when they don't?
Anyway, given that, I thought the topic of the post was Bush in India.
Oh well, it's Ann's blog and all, as for narcissism, I am a) not the one with the blog, b) not the one that has said she wants to become famous by the blog, c) not the one that has asked readers to vote her the conservative blog diva. (But I am pretty damn narcissistic.)
You can read what what I quoted from here

Censorship!!!
The notion that I approve of this sort of thing is a misreading of something I wrote in the comments to another post. And I don't like having my opinions distorted.
I also don't like people who fart around me.
And when they keep on doing it, I ask them to go away.
The difference is you may not like the farting, but you tolerate it.
How's that for distorting opinions?
Cheers,
Victoria
