Rough outing to the grocery store this morning- it began with joy of the sight right inside the door- an end cap for snickerdoodle twix. An opportunity to score points back home- dashed when I discovered they stuffed it with peanut m&ms and some snickers… eff you. Keep going. Specific egg brand on the list- twelve large for twelve large 😳. Coup de grace- at home the discovery of the largest bottle of woolite dark man has ever created, fell over rounding the roundabout and spent the next twenty minutes of the trip home gurgling down into the bowels underneath the load floor, beneath the jack, under the suspension compressor. Some kind of white insulator around the compressor acted like a diaper and trapped some soap but far from all. Two boxes of microfiber cloths later I think I have it contained. I’d like to pull the compressor but JLR had a kitchen sink strategy with all the fasteners. Three cycles in the washer to try and rinse out the diaper because LR doesn’t recognize the part number…I think it might be salvageable. Can’t say the same for the styrofoam what held the jack 🙁…

Ukraine's long range missiles -
Neptune Extended Range
https://united24media.com/latest-news/ukraine-builds-the-long-range-cruise-missile-europe-still-cant-make-12202
Flamingo
https://united24media.com/latest-news/ukraines-3000km-flamingo-cruise-missile-born-in-9-months-and-it-started-out-pink-10991

Ukraine does not really need US ATACMS or Tomahawk anymore. And it is in a position to supply these to NATO countries.

buwaya said...

These missiles are in the same ballpark as Russias Kh101 and similar, but with better guidance. The targeting situation, wherein Russian targets are widely dispersed, makes Russias job of intercepting these much more difficult than Ukraines job of intercepting Russian cruise missiles.

Now that arson against the judge's home has been descredited and debunked, how long will it take gadfly and (d)inga to retract and/or scrub their blueanon accusations?

Faster than soyboy Jimmy Kimmel's tanking ratings?
Quicker than pro-groomer-murder_cult Keir Starmer's approval circles the toilet?

NATO defense buildup. Polish Piorun MANPADS.

People (crypto-Putinists) were complaining about the US running out of Stingers. Well, the Poles were, even in 2022, outproducing the US in MANPADS, and most manpads used by Ukraine were Polish. But the Putinists wouldnt hear it.

BREAKING: "President Trump just SAVED the Women and Children's Food Program from losing money under the Democrats' federal shutdown.
This is because $200 BILLION came in from Trump's tariffs and some of that money will keep the program running.

Trump cares, Schumer does NOT."

Why is Newsum such a horrible liar? Oh right - all leftists are horrible liars. but they get away with it - because most of the hack press are as corrupt as the lying liar democratic-Soviet Antifa-thug party.
1) Air traffic controllers are essential workers & remain employed during shutdowns.

2) CA’s Senators, both Democrats, are filibustering the bill to open the government. That’s why there’s a shutdown. Newsom supports them doing so, while blaming Trump.

3) Every R Congressman from CA voted to fund the government. Every CA Democrat voted no.

Jay Jones’s Texts Are a Frightening Peek into a Bleak Moral Worldview

Greetings and welcome to this positively insane 57th performance of the Carnival of Fools! Once again the political lunatics have escaped the asylum; once again they’re running for office; once again they may win. Try as I might to pretend that it’s all in good fun, it has recently become incredibly obvious that it is not, and it needs to be addressed. Folks, it’s a one-topic Carnival this week.

Pigs Fly - A Trump supporter watches CBS News in the time of Bari Weiss.

I watched three segmants of CBS Evening News today and I was astounded to see even-handed, informative coverage. I didn't think Bari could get going so soon. For example, in the coverage of October 7 memorials in Israel, the news mentioned the casualties of the Gaza which it said were obtained from the "Hamas controlled" Palestinian Health Authority, That's the first time I've seen a major outlet acknowlege Hamas control of these figures,
Then there was a discussion of the Colorado case on the banning of conversion therapy which had a segment discussing conversion therapy as used against gays, a practice this law would ban. Next it had a gender therapist who argued for the practice but her own words made it plain that minors are being targeted by those advocating for changing genders.
Then there was a discussion of ICE in Chicago which nade it plain that the National Guard was being sent to protect ICE facilities while it also presented figures showing that these deployments include about 25% immigration arrests. (The story did not discuss whether these arrests were based on criminal warrants other than immigration status. )
Trump was mentioned this way: President Trump has ordered the National Guard ....
The stories included a lot of "advocates on this side say this while advocates on that side say that." You know, news. And Hitler has left the building - I didn't hear him mentioned once.

wildswan - thanks for that. Hope! Can we really have a non-Soviet(D) corruption Free media?

Althouse, back in 2018 you highlighted Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata. Part of the reason I visit here regularly is those kinds of posts because they expose me to things I wouldn't likely find in my other places. That post got me thinking and connecting to other things I was working on, and became part of a presentation I did later that year at a theology conference.

After a long while of sitting in my folders, it was published as an online essay. Whenever I read through it, I think of this blog.

You, and many of the commentators over the years, have helped my thinking and been a useful part of this messy internet. So thank you for this daily space to consider and learn.

One of the results of the publicity surrounding the murder of Charlie Kirk is that a lot of younger conservatives are getting more exposure. Many of them are black. Kaisen D Asiedu @thatsKAISEN is one of them. He is excellent at explaining his positions and at the same time giving lessons in logic. Here is one of his videos:

Under 31 U.S.C. § 3302(b) — the Miscellaneous Receipts Statute — all money received for the government, including tariffs, must be deposited into the Treasury’s general fund and can’t be spent without a Congressional appropriation.

Tariff collections are recorded as customs duties in receipt account 0110 (Customs Duties) within the general fund — they aren’t revolving or trust funds available for Executive use.
The Executive can’t redirect tariff revenue to WIC or any other program.

WIC’s current funding comes from USDA carryover balances and an OMB-approved contingency reserve, not tariffs.
Even if Congress later drew on tariff receipts, it would appear as a regular outlay in an Appropriations Act, not a direct reallocation of customs revenue.

Has there been a request for such an appropriation? That would be a constructive step.

Will be going to the pistol range this week. I go at least once a month and usually fire 60-70 rounds. Start at 15 ft for 20 rounds to warm up and then finish up with 40-50 rounds at 30 ft. I would go more often but my better half thinks it's a waste of money. I just tell her that if I ever have to fire my weapon in self defense I want to make sure I hit what I'm aiming at.

Original Mike said...

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/ukraine-s-air-shield-falters-russia-shifts-missile-tactics-to-confuse-us-made-patriot-defenses/ar-AA1O0B5i

The funny part about these stories is that they claim that the Patriot only became ineffective recently. Anybody following sources that don't base their reporting on official announcements out of Kiev knows that Russian missiles have been mostly getting through since day one.

The press is so full of lies, but I guess it's like what Churchill said, "The truth in war is so precious, it must be protected by a bodyguard of lies." Well, I think that the European public has been lied to massively. Maybe I am wrong, time will tell.

Remember that there was a deal on the table a month after the war started that would have kept Ukraine intact. It would have had to go back to the original deal under which it was created, to be non-aligned, and would have had to respect the language rights of its Russian speaking citizens, and it would seem that that was too much to ask, and that this war was a better option.

Alright, I admit it. I am mad. As in, mentally deranged.
We made marinara, from fresh tomatoes and herbs, so there is a big sprig of fresh basil left on the counter. And I decided to make garlic bread, so I started melting some butter, and pressing garlic into it. But since the basil was right there -- what the heck. So there's some basil in it.

But. Then, it turned out there is no Italian bread, nor even French. So. Casting sanity to the winds, I set the oven to preheating to 350, and started thawing some rye bread. This is that top-of-the-slide moment. Here we go.

Nothing wrong with basil in garlic bread, but rye is a whole ‘nother issue… lol

In 1978 - 1980, gold prices increased similarly to what they have done in the past couple years, the run up in the price of gold started and got going under Biden, and has continued under Trump, but in 1980, when that happened, it was due to a crisis in confidence in the US dollar.
