"I would never, ever say that I regret supporting the first Black woman vice president, ever. But the disappointment is real."

"I was obsessed with the idea of this person who could undo the systemic, the systematic racism and sexism and heterosexism in government with one fell swoop, and now I’m thinking to myself, did I just make up a person in my head who could do those things?"

Said "one self-described former member of the #KHive, who requested to speak anonymously so as not to alienate themselves from friends made through the movement," quoted in "The KHive Retreats as Kamala Harris’ Popularity Vanishes/As Kamala Harris’ popularity has waned, so too has her support among her most rabid and online followers" (Daily Beast).

None of the #KHive members who spoke with The Daily Beast pointed to any policy disagreements between members that have led to major fractures....

Fractures. Maybe fissures will emerge.

But some admitted they got caught up in the stan-ification of politics that became widespread in the extremely online political circles of the 2020 Democratic primaries....

Wouldn't it be great if everyone realized they were sick of the hysteria and puffery and wanted to look things squarely in the face and see reality?

Harris, who never received one vote in the Democrat primary, was popular? I guess we now know who knew, but why? Because of her skin color and sexual organs? Sounds like a poor reason to find someone popular, but I guess Willie Brown liked both attributes too.

Well there's your problem, Ms. Harris is perhaps "Black" and perhaps "mixed race" and her identity has shifted with the sands. Even Reuters and NPR spent lots of time teasing out the ambiguities.

I personally never thought she was Black when I read the name "Kamala" and saw her face. Indian, Sri Lankan, or Indonesian all made sense to me. Note that southern Indians do have darker skin than northern Indians.

Calling her "Black" means you may be prejudging or stereotyping a mixed race person...or wrong in one breath and right in the next...the woke have firmly demanded that we update those old "binaries" haven't they?

You shouldn't worry about it bro, because Kamala Harris ain't "black." She called Joe Biden a racist during the campaign. Which he is, and he'd never have a black Vice President because he is in fact a racist. See his long friendship with Grand Dragon of the Ku Klux Klan Robert Byrd.

Harris' mother was Shyamala Gopalan. She is from India.

Her father was Donald Harris. He is a Jamacian-American ... not an African-American.

Harris has described herself in the past as "Indian-American." Until she got into politics after having an affair with Willie Brown, the married governor of California. Then it became politically convenient to pull an Elizabeth Warren and describe herself as African-American because Democrat NPCs are easily duped (see: Inga).

She's no more black than Warren is an American Indian, as she claims.

Hence, the problem with "equity." "Equality" demands that all persons be treated the same according to their abilities, and then let the chips fall as they may. "Equity" demands quotas and assumes that any deviation from the quota is purely driven by discrimination. They are not always wrong about that as sometimes the deviation is directly caused by discrimination, and sometimes indirectly as discrimination somewhere down the line caused a dearth of qualified persons. However, the solution to fulfill the quota typically does not involve plugging in qualified persons of the (real or imagined) discriminated group, but plugging in whomever is well connected and can fake being qualified and, coincidentally, belongs to that group. You know, like Kamala Harris who owns her career to being the side piece of a powerful politician.

When you do not value talent, you do not get it. Surprise!

I understand people thinking that electing an African-American president would mean the "end of racism," but didn't we learn anything from that not happening? People will always have prejudices. People will always have grievances. Politicians will always make use of those grievances to get power.

And what made the KHiver think that Kamala of all people was capable of changing the world in that way? Just her gender, color, and ancestry?

Swoop and stoop can be synonyms. The attack of a falcon on its quarry is called a stoop. The phrase comes to us from Macbeth, Act IV, scene 3. Macduff, learning of the murder of his wife and family by Macbeth's henchmen, says,
"What, all my pretty chickens and their dam
At one fell swoop?"

Shakespeare often alluded to falconry in his metaphors and similies though there's no evidence he participated in the sport himself. Consequently, he may have erred here, confusing swoop with the correct term, stoop.

A video illustration of the term.

She received less primary votes than seven candidates who were listed on fewer than six state's ballots, and one who was listed solely in West Virginia.

How could her "popularity" have waned any futher?

There was a time, circa Amos N Andy, when white people would go out of their way to ridicule Black circumlocutions. The pendulum has swung the other way, and white people now go out of their way to avoid any mockery of Black people--with the single exception of Judge Thomas.... Around here, Kamala comes in her for her fair share of ridicule, but among the professionals, the people who are paid to deliver monologues about dumb politicians, she is sacrosanct.....She has said some of the dumbest, lamest things ever said by any American politician under the age of seventy-five, but she has never once been lampooned by SNL or any of the late night comedians.....It's not just that the Emperor has no clothes, but he's covered in shit and fucking a pig while he parades down Broadway. It takes a lot of effort to avoid commenting on such a spectacle, and the media is willing to put in that effort.

Just "one drop". Ask Lizzy Warren.

A factor about her selection is her "high point in the debates. She loudly and clearly called Biden a bigot. AND she got cheers and a lot of positive press.

Had to bring her into the fold to have her STFU.

Harris is spectacularly untalented. She giggles awkwardly when asked serious questions and cannot string a few coherent sentences together. I love when they say criticism of her is due to racism and sexism. Funny, Condi Rice, the next highest ranking black woman in American government wasn't widely criticized for her lack of intellect or coherent speech.

I also find it fascinating that both Harris and Obama have no African slaves from America as ancestors, both had well-to-do upbringings and attended fairly exclusive secondary schools, both attended school outside of the US for a time during their childhoods. Its almost as if the Democrat elite hate people like Clarence Thomas and Ben Carson who grew up in the projects.

Kamala is actually very valuable. You assign her to something when you want nothing done, or the opposite of what you say.

1) Border crisis. She was assigned to accomplish nothing and has succeeded beyond expectation. 2200 in one spot today. Guatemala says she has never even called, even though they have offered to help.

2) Ukraine - Send her over to taunt them joining NATO, and wha-la. Russia invades just like you wanted...and billions of US taxpayer money goes to fund a proxy war and keep the money laundering alive.

And you can imagine what the real support of Biden is now to...

Both the President and VP are massive disappointment for not only Americans but Ukrainians and Afghans to. On the other hand riff raff coming in the 'secure' Southern border from South American just love them!

The country needs to adopt the sanity and intelligence requirements needed to captain a nuclear submarine for the presidency, vice presidency, all members of Congress and all department, bureaus and agency heads. Like chicken soup, it can't hurt.

With Harris, Biden found his Biden. As stupid, incompetent, mendacious and senile as Biden is, she is even worst. Give Joe Biden credit, that is a truly amazing achievement.

[Fractures. Maybe fissures will emerge.]

But some admitted they got caught up in the stan-ification of politics that became widespread in the extremely online political circles of the 2020 Democratic primaries.

I've wondered, too, how she can be ssssssooo stupid when she has speech writers and merely has to read their words. Maybe there's a rule that she can't make Joe Biden look bad? or can't make herself look like a possible replacement? It's my opinion that Willie Brown would never have had a complete idiot as his FWB. My theory is that Kamala thinks public speaking is cocktail party talk - a few fragmentary words and a laugh is all that's needed. It's mean to post consecutive sentences from her speeches on social media as if she was giving a speech.

Race
Kamala's mother was a Tamil, not a Hindu Indian. It matters there.
Some Northern Irish were brought to Jamaica in the 19C after slavery was abolished because of the labor shortage. They lived in a backwoods area called Irishtown and intermarried with descendants of the slaves. Bob Marley and Kamala Harris's father both come from there with that mixed ancestry. It was possible to come from there and still go to school, be an altar boy at the Anglican Cathedral in Jamaica and grow up to achieve standard success as Harris's father did - going to university and becoming a professor.

That was his one faintly good policy action, a boon for those who had no other access to health insurance, but it was far too compromised, far too short of what it could and should have been. Shouldn't we select our officials based on their expected/anticipated competence in performing the job for which they are elected?

Was there an organic K hive or was this a PR stunt based on Beyoncé’s b hive. I don’t follow popular music at all, have never heard any of her songs, but news generators are always talking about that. So even I know about it. It sounds like a pathetic attempt to generate “buzz” around an unlikable woman by associating her support in people’s minds with a celebrity.

Kamala has violated the ancient rules of politics and found herself promoted above her ability. Classic Peter principle case. However her sex affords her another option for being a leader and garnering a constituency, fashion. If a prominent modern woman can’t make an impact due to wisdom or wits she can always fall back on presenting a striking physical appearance, with flair if possible. She should try it sometime.

You all are missing the point of the uniparty. Robert Cook is right, but he didn't go far enough.

Bush/Cheney was an obvious extension of the Clinton/Gore approach to governing, just as Obama/Biden was an extension of Bush/Cheney. The policies were the same. The endless involvement in wars in the Middle East (Bush put Clinton's Middle East policies into action; Obama continued them), the belief that "the world is flat", the propping up through currency manipulation of China as a market for our national debt, the belief that governmental interventions imposed by Really Smart People can make life better for those at the bottom when what they do is increase the power and wealth of those at the top--it is all the same thing. The self-created "national crises" give the excuse for more and more expensive and bootless interventions. The empty, stupid, vicious Biden is left holding the bag for 30 years of policy failure by the uniparty of Really Smart People, all of which he supported in the Senate.

As to the uniparty, it is instructive to remember or read about the Reagan presidency (try Stephen Hayward's The Age of Reagan). His worst opposition came from "centerist" Republicans in the Senate. Chuck Percy and others like him were sure that cutting marginal tax rates would not do anything good. They favored "intelligent" regulation of business affairs from Washington, DC. The people who led us into 30 years of global folly came from both parties, and they embraced failure and called it justice.

Note: Reagan was a graduate of Eureka College. Not really from the top drawer, was he?

How about Sarah Palin? An enterprising promoter (Donald Trump?) could make a fortune promoting a series of per per view debates between Palin and Harris. As clueless as Harris is, she wouldn't be allowed to participate by her handlers.

Palin got the Trump treatment. Unrelenting lawfare, as the Governor of Alaska. Lots of investigations and always impending indictments....until she resigned. Then all the crimes evaporated. Palin actually writes and delivers compelling speeches.

"Stan" just means fan — an especially big fan. Originally, it was a stalking fan character in an Eminem song titled "Stan," someone you wouldn't want to be. But it's just a cutesy way to say "fan" now — like "rabid fan." You wouldn't want to be rabid, literally, but it became a trite way to say "big fan."

The "-ification" ending is too familiar to need explanation. Rush Limbaugh used to talk about the "chickification" of politics, so "the stan-ification of politics" should be easy. That's why I didn't expound on it in the post.

Amadeus 48 really gets to the heart of the matter. We should have pivoted in 1990 from the Cold War paradigm but the grift was just too good. I love the way Peter Zeihan snarks that we 'bribed up an alliance' to fight the Cold War. Not that there was anything wrong with that, it leveraged our greatest strength against the Soviet's greatest weakness but people simply got addicted to myths of managed trade and managed economies that grew out of using our economy as a weapon. So the Uniparty found a reason to keep refilling the punchbowl in integrating China et al even though folding them into an alliance against a defeated enemy made no sense. This was the great failure of Fukuyama's End of History thesis. The Chinese were happy to take our money and the Muslims to buy our weapons but none of them had a reason to actually integrate into the liberal democratic order, and we had no more leverage to get them to do it.

Trump was the first Presidential candidate to say, in a rather rough and crude way, that the way we're organizing our economic and foreign policies no longer makes any sense, which is why his messages resonates the way it does among the people who are not in on the grift.

gilbar, Cook did not say Obama and Bush were the same, he said that they were more than minimally variant, i.e. different. That is true, as low a bar as Bush set, Obama managed to go lower. He came in with sky high approval ratings, commanding majorities in both houses, and managed to squander it all by the time he was done, so badly that Trump was elected. The wages of Obama was Trump.
