"Even as we push the envelope and we are bold in our vision we also have to be rooted in reality. The average American doesn’t think we have to completely tear down the system and remake it."

Said Barack Obama, "speaking before a room of wealthy liberal donors," quoted in the NYT, which calls his speech "an extraordinary entrance into the primary contest by the former president." It's "extraordinary," because, until now, he "has been careful to avoid even the appearance of influencing the direction of the race." So bland as his advice may sound, he must think it's awfully important.

He didn't specify that he meant to dampen enthusiasm for Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, but you can figure it out.
“I don’t think we should be deluded into thinking that the resistance to certain approaches to things is simply because voters haven’t heard a bold enough proposal and if they hear something as bold as possible then immediately that’s going to activate them,” he said.
Ha ha. In other words, Elizabeth, you're not the first one to "have a plan" for everything. We all can do that. But we've got enough sense not to say it out loud, and we also know we've got to get elected. We were able to toy with the idea that an explicit left-wing plan might generate some enthusiasm in some quarters, but we didn't fall into the delusion that we could win an election that way.

This from a man who said: "If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor" and "If you like your health care plan, you can keep your health care plan."

The last thing anyone needs to hear from Barry is what he thinks. He's a known liar, and an empty suit.

Wealthy liberal donors like to stay wealthy too. Know your audience. He’s got that going for him

To a liberal wealthy donor they’re used to liberal candidates not understanding undergraduate economics but it’s disturbing to hear Liz Warren doesn’t understand how compounding works or how impossible it is to value privately held companies or illiquid real estate or collectibles on an annual basis. On top of her not understanding what a tax loss carry forward is.

Why are only commie plans "bold"

when did the Right ever have a bold plan to voter ID or dump all immigrants or cut taxes to 10% or eliminate all gun laws? Would that be "bold"?

What Wendybar and RickT said was the first thing that came to my mind, too. I remember well when Obama said he would fundamentally transform America. And he did!

Crushing political norms and traditions, deconstructing our very democracy. I know it is extreme, but we need to start retro impeachment proceedings.

Prediction:

If Warren gets the nomination, wealthy Wall Street donors will, privately, support Donald Trump.

If she gets elected and actually tries to enact a tax on unrealized gains or a wealth tax, or any of her other hair-brained economic schemes, the democrats will work with the republicans in congress, privately, to stymie her.

If she, somehow, does get her hair-brained schemes passed into law, the market and economy will collapse.

When the market and economy collapse, she will blame it on "wreckers and hoarders" and there will be show trials.

True enough, but the speech isn't just about the voters resistance. "Wealthy liberal donors" don't want the system torn down either; it's serving them quite nicely, thank you very much. So Obama is reassuring them, too.

Spot on.

If you tell rural Pennsylvania voters they are the salt of the Earth during the day, wait until you're at a private swanky fundraiser that night to tell those bitter clingers what you really think of them.

But wait, there'a more click-bait!

"OBAMA: In five days, you can turn the page on policies that put greed and irresponsibility on Wall Street before the hard work and sacrifice of folks on Main Street.

In five days, you can choose policies that invest in our middle class, and create new jobs, and grow this economy, so that everyone has a chance to succeed, not just the CEO, but the secretary and janitor, not just...
(CHEERING AND APPLAUSE)
OBAMA: ... the factory owner, but the men and women on the factory floor."

Too bad we foster an environment where bad actors are not completely removed, but remain indefinitely like wine stains on white (supremacist) carpets.
