Less than two years ago, we inherited an economic and social disaster after the worst inflation in 48 years. The wide open borders with millions and millions of people pouring in from all over the world, including criminals of all types and 11,888 murderers, many of whom killed more than one person. We had transgender for everybody, men and women sports, crime ravaging our cities, and the whole world was laughing at us as a nation. But not anymore. Two years ago, our country was dead.
This was the point in the speech where I started repeating lines out loud: Our country was dead!
Now we are the hottest country anywhere in the world. America is respected like we have never been respected before....

This week it was announced that inflation saw the largest monthly decline in more than six years.... The tax cuts in our great big beautiful bill are saving hardworking families thousands and thousands of dollars....
He's touting his achievements, going down a list. I lost hope that the big announcement would be big but I kept watching. 20 minutes in:

Who is still watching at this point? Are they groaning? Are there Trump fans, somewhere in America, who feel boosted and proud?

The greatest risk of future serious civil unrest will come from an election whose processes are perceived to be compromised, and where the losing side will feel, with potentially violent anger, that they were cheated. Only after such an event, with ensuing destruction and casualties, will there be the political will to clean up our inexcusably sloppy elections.

Similar to what he is trying to do in Iran, Trump wants to get in front of serious future problems (Iran going nuclear, civil unrest from contested elections) and prevent them. Because politicians are rarely so proactive, only reactive, this troubles many critics. And he will never get credit if he is successful--it will be the dog that didn't bark.

Fresh peanut butter from our POTUS. We learn more about the audience by their reaction than we learn from the actual speech. Like peanut butter, the content is remarkably consistent, but people expect it to change just due to its source.
I am reminded that Trump is very fortunate in his opposition. Consider what it would take to make this look good. or at least better than the alternative. To most of us, the opposition sorta looks like peanut butter too, but smells a bit funny. Well, that's where we are in July of 2026.
Note that the legacy networks sought to avoid accusations of complicity in any election scheme by not broadcasting the address before debunking it immediately after. That's the ticket, alright.

The speech: we almost walked away at the repetitive MAGA boilerplate but he segued into the four key releases just in time to get our attention. We were highly attentive to the end. Not sure why he started with the “dead country/hot country” schtick but it was a poor choice.
I don’t think they should be claiming 250k non-citizens registered to vote. It should be ineligible, not non-citizen. From what I’ve seen the vast majority are deceased, not illegal aliens. However, 250k ineligible voters in a small number of states is extremely concerning. Mail-in ballots for anyone not in hardship must be outlawed.

I choose to judge this episode based on the last three presidents/candidates who made similar claims not on President Trump’s everything plus the kitchen sink rhetorical style. The evidence in this claim is overwhelming.
I’m afraid “even Fox News” might be ready for retirement seeing as how they can’t seem to find news value in normal politics, such as not even mentioning the McConnell is missing story except for the brief moment after the CNN guy claimed he had a 20-minute talk with Mitch. Remember when Democrats universally invoked the old “even the APPEARANCE of impropriety” standard for what should be investigated? Well we are way past that realm and have more than an apparent problem, we have millions of dead voters still on rolls, identity theft of almost 300,000 party registrations, vote counting interruptions by fake floods with custodial issues, we have several states with more registered voters than adults living in the state, like Wisconsin itself.

There is nothing built into the US elections system to "correct" a problem in "real time". The country can't wait 20 months (or 6 years) to have a winner declared. So those who declared Russia had stolen the 2016 election, but 2020 election was a textbook case of how to run an "ethical" election are full of it as are all those who proclaim the opposite. Anybody who sat through the Watergate hearings knows hours were spent to prove even minor points. I seriously doubt that the country has the attention span for that type of hearing now. Nixon did eventually resign,, but it wasn;t a court decision but a combination of the right people leveraging the situation to influence him to resign. I don't know who those people would be today or if they would be willing to do it.

Saved a lot of time and just went to the White House website on the information provided. It's not a nothing burger, but nothing I haven't heard about for years. The electronic voting machines are full of vulnerabilities, and the people that pretend otherwise are why the rest of us get regular cyber security training. My personal data was given to China during the Obama Administration after it was collected by the Bush Administration. Michigan is but one problem. And non-citizens (and dead citizens) has constantly been discussed for decades. The states that allow it keep acting like it is no big deal, while they also take longer and longer to count votes.

Then, I would go through that list to look for how many of those addresses are P.O. Boxes, vacant lots, malls, businesses, churches, shelters, or other non-residential locations.
No good American may oppose what the SAVE Act is designed to do, but there are a lot of people out there who are not "good Americans." And unfortunately, they are allowed to vote, too.

I did my morning read of Instapundit. Posts late yesterday suggested a speech as important as the Cuban Missile Crisis. If the topic is about bureaucrats covering up foreign meddling I our national affairs, then let’s talk Covid rather than TikTok.
Trump over-promised and under-delivered, which is unfortunately what I have come to expect with these bombshell announcements. It's not that I now doubt the election interference claims. It's that he was poorly prepared to elucidate and explain all this to people who haven't been following it for the last ten years or who are politically disposed to doubt everything Trump says in the first place.
For example, when he talked about China stealing voter information, most people are going to say, "That's no good, but so what? What does that mean? How does it affect me? What can they do with that information? How can that information be used to change the outcome of an election?" Trump failed to carefully explain that. Perhaps he's incapable of long, complicated explanations or breaking things down so they can be clearly understood. Not everyone is a teacher. If that's the case, he should now give the task to someone who can. Very few people are going to go to the WH website and read documents. Maybe appoint an election interference czar and keep him or her front and center talking about what happened, what is being done about it. He didn't even elaborate on what was in these documents or where they came from or why they change things.
Many of us we're hoping this was going to be a big breakthrough and people were going to be exposed and held to account. I don't feel like I leaned anything new. What it actually turned out to be was an attempt to put more pressure on Congress to pass the Save America Act. Honestly, I think Trump failed even to do that. It may have had the opposite effect. Hope I'm wrong.

There is time to study them before the next election and we know there is not time for any study of long intricate documents after elections even though California vote-counting drags things out for weeks. There are those among us who can analyze these documents and publish the results and their meaning even before the upcoming election. If SAVE does not pass and strange results come in from widespread California-counting in bluestates and cities in November 2026, these analyses will mate up in real time with important events, i.e., election results. So I think that relative to our crooked media, this speech is somewhat like telling kids at the beach they need an education to get ahead and they should do summer work to overcome the effects of the Covid years or like Churchill telling the House of Commons in 1938 that Hitler was dangerous and Munich was not "peace with honor." The media aren't equipped to understand. I did watch the speech, live, the whole thing. Donald J. Trump is our President, and when a President, any and every President, says he is going to make a major, official speech in primetime, I watch it, because I require that of myself as an American citizen (born in Greenberg, IN of natural born parents, one from IN and one from IL). I’m with Althouse in that there seemed to be a lot of clutter in the front part of the speech and little new let alone bombshell in the last, shorter part of it. I didn’t see much substantive point to the exercise. But he is our President, and so I didn’t watch it in its entirety. I’m glad it was relatively brief.

But evidence that something could be exploited is not evidence that it was exploited successfully, much less that it changed the presidency.
I can still agree with election deniers on many issues they advocate- voter ID, signature verification, citizenship requirements and other safeguards. Where I differ is treating those reforms as a response to a stolen election, while I view them as prospective policies that must be evaluated on their own merits.
The claim that 2020 was stolen now operates as the accepted premise for testing constitutional authority and passing the SAVE America Act even though the promised presentation still did not establish that premise.

In 2018 Obama gave a long speech on "saving democracy," during which he talked about Russia "hacking" elections and accused Republicans of not doing enough to secure our elections. All the major news channels covered it.
So Obama supports Trump's efforts, and I would guess the Save Act, unless he was just full of shit. In respect for Obama, I'll assume it's bipartisan.

The fact that everyone is talking about this and the evidence is being exposed and argued is what effective looks like in a democracy. Trump did his job - he made it news, when the news is trying to ignore it.
If we could just find a way to blame election fraud on white supremacy, we would have bipartisanship, if not on the cause, at least that the problem is real.
This is a serious question: Trump delivered a speech riddled with lies, exaggerations, and nonsense. It was promptly torpedoed by facts. What did they think would happen?
They don’t claim a single vote was changed. They don’t claim any databases were manipulated. Yet they achieved their intended effect.
Judging from the comments on Althouse, the speech supplies those who want to believe with a trove of confusing material from which to construct their preferred story.

I support Trump and know he was cheated out of the 2020 election but I can’t watch his speeches. Just too cringe-inducing for me. And too long. But I don’t care: he’s put the brakes on runaway progressivism and that’s what I voted for.
