Your #2 -- early summer, so rich!

Maybe time for another viewing of Jazz on a Summer's Day filmed on the 4th of July weekend in Newport, RI, 1958. Streams, plus maybe a 4K update from Kino Lorber. Not a typical concert movie, much more atmospheric and beautiful.

Top two are beautiful photos.
Thank you for sifting through them all and presenting the best so they dont get overlooked amongst all the everyday shots that are likely more spectacular in person than here, day after day...
Any new photo compositions pop to mind?
New content is always good, not just working over the NYT or MSM daily to keep the streak alive, especially since you are focusing more on ladies' page news of late... nttawwt, the old guy seem to appreciate it.

Not-So-Fun Fact of the day.

“ Fentanyl is now the leading cause of death for Americans between the ages of 18 and 45.”

The heat wave is finally breaking, and Bordeaux is becoming liveable again. Lots of people out on the streets today, and Mrs. Hawkeye again hauled me to the outdoor market to forage for tonight's dinner. It will be sole, expertly sliced and filleted by the poisonniere. And a bottle of Muscadet, beloved for its crispness and low alcohol content.

Meanwhile the authorities in Paris have forbidden drinking in the street and selling takeout alcohol in an attempt to lessen the number of overheated drunks congesting the ambulances and hospitals.

This one is from the 'Oh, FFS' school of journalism.

The Armadillo Menace

"...Nine-banded armadillos are proving to be a problem across North Carolina. Now that they appear to be migrating towards the mountains, officials are sounding the alarm....On June 16, the North Carolina Cooperative Extension in Henderson County warned residents that armadillos have been spotted near the mountains. The warning was issued both because armadillos can damage property and ecosystems as they burrow for insects and invertebrates, and because a small population has been known to spread leprosy....."

I've never heard such compete nonsense. Yes, don't go outside without toting your shotgun, and be vigilant for armadillos lying in the weeds to come racing across your yard in ambush. And Leprosy ! Your fingers might drop off before you reach back to the house, trigger finger first !

The whole tale reads like some out-of-work Climate researcher is trying to gin up some easy grant money to fund a 10 year study. That's precisely what this looks like - fearmongering to justify expenditure, Me First. Old formerly-successful habits die hard.

Saw something interesting yesterday, in NE PHX. Political signs are very popular in PHD, and before elections, they flourish. And that was why I knew in 11/20 that AZ had been stolen by the Dems. When a Biden sign would go up (rare) it was immediately surrounded by a bunch of Trump signs. And there would be groups on street corners with signs reading “honk for Trump”. And everyone did. Energy for Trump was high. Energy for Biden was nonexistent.

In any case, it’s election time again, and saw a new one yesterday. It had a candidate’s name, and said, in Spanish (or, more accurately, Spanglish), “He is a Gun Grabber”.

Hispanics, and esp Mexicans, are supposed to be a natural constituency for Dems. I think that is blowing up on them, and their plot to bring in millions of Hispanics illegally. Esp the Mexicans here are assimilating quickly here. Faster than anyone thought likely. Faster, it seems than the Italians, the Irish, etc did. They are religious, family oriented, patriotic, and hard working. In other words, they naturally align more with Republican values. Maybe not most yet, but things seem to be changing quickly. We shall see.

Mel Brooks turns 100 today, and the most recent picture I found is from late January: He looks terrific.

Hawkeye said “ It will be sole, expertly sliced and filleted by the poisonniere.” they didn’t sell sushi there when I lived near Bordeaux in 1962.
