"There will be lots of positive action! Big money will be made."

Trump at Truth Social:
A big day for World Peace! Iran wants it to happen, they’ve had enough! Likewise, so has everyone else! The United States of America will be helping with the traffic buildup in the Strait of Hormuz. There will be lots of positive action! Big money will be made. Iran can start the reconstruction process. We’ll be loading up with supplies of all kinds, and just “hangin’ around” in order to make sure that everything goes well. I feel confident that it will. Just like we are experiencing in the U.S., this could be the Golden Age of the Middle East!!! President DONALD J. TRUMP

We’ll be just “hangin’ around”... ready to bomb you back to the Stone Age if you don't pick up on this lots-of-positive-action vibe. Don't you want big money?

The builder wants to build. On top of all of that demolition.

I do wonder what his plan is. Surely Trump knows that if he leaves the theocracy in place, we’ll be right back here again in 20 years. If there isn’t a change in the form of government, then this is just a bigger kick of the can.

Mike (MJB Wolf) said...

It could be that we finally have more transparency than we actually need, although even this update obscures the actual points of agreement. The other reports, we’ve bombed more sites on Karg Island and destroyed the “escape airplanes” that the mullahs had reserved for their eventual acceptance of exile, don’t shed enough light to reconcile with Trump’s statement.

For such a speedy war, the wind down feels so slow motion.

Mike (MJB Wolf) said...

But we can’t force the “change in government” Tim. The Iranian people will have to do it. Perhaps the next arms we ship in will reach the people willing to fight the IRGC instead of being kiked by the Kurds.

He's a New York builder. He's used to dealing with mafia methods. The mafia guys always use the carrot and the stick: work with us and we all make money; don't work with us, and, well, bad things sometimes happen to good people.

Now he's found himself in charge of the ultimate mafia: the world's most powerful nation-state. So he uses the same methods that were used on him.

Another reason to bring people into government who've never been there before: they see the potential of the tools from a new perspective. CC, JSM

What is also interesting is that Iran's 10-point list of demands was accepted by President Trump as "a good starting point" for the negotiations and an adequate rationale for calling the ceasefire.

There is probably not even a single demand on that list that would be acceptable to a rational US Administration with out very substantial quid-pro-quo from Iran, to address longstanding US and western demands.

So Iran has demanded a lifting of all primary and secondary sanctions on Iran, withdrawal of all US troops from the region, continuing Iranian control over the Strait of Hormuz, release of all frozen Iranian assets, retention of Iran's nuclear enrichment capabilities, payment of reparations to Iran for the damage caused and so on, and Trump has called this a "good starting point."

From the starting point of the unilateral abrogation of the 2015 JCPOA nuclear agreement by the US, acceptance by the US of even a few of the conditions on the 10-point list would be a substantial serious downgrade, compared to the terms of the original agreement signed during Obama's term.

So is the Trump admin so exhausted and desperate now, that they were grateful for any opportunity at all to stop the fighting, and they grabbed the China-brokered ceasefire fronted by the Pakistan government by both hands, as soon as it was offered?

And has JD Vance been set-up as the fall-guy in his role as lead US representative in the talks scheduled for Friday? He is clearly in a no-win situation, as there is no great outcome for the US in the current scenario, and most of the blame for a bad deal or for no deal can now be cynically laid at the door of Vance.

There is also that suspicion about carefully curated and timed announcements that create very large financial market moves and the massive advantage that prior knowledge of such announcements could provide to insiders trading the market, but in the absence of evidence and the complete lack of appetite and courage on the part of leading financial media to look into the situation, it is best to let those sleeping dogs lie, using a metaphor.

The Korean market was up 7% last night. Japan up 3%. And Starmer is in the Middle East, ready to broker some sort of deal with somebody.

Trump has done the hard, unpopular work. Now the world wants to jump in and protect the peace. Iran has to go up against all that if they want to resume hostilities, or terrorism.

It's okay with me if Iran charges fees for use of the strait of Hormuz. I prefer economic war to shooting war, and I prefer shooting war to nuclear war. The key thing, as always, is to get Iran to give up on their pursuit of nukes.

Bloomberg sums it up nicely:

• The ceasefire in Iran has reinforced views that President Donald Trump's campaign against the Tehran regime marks a strategic setback, bolstering China and Russia while squandering American strengths.

• The two-week ceasefire will dent Trump's credibility as a negotiator and likely further deter Russian President Vladimir Putin from making concessions in Ukraine, according to people familiar with the thinking across capitals.

• The war has cost the United States much more than anticipated and Iran may end up viewed as the strategic winner, with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps remaining in place and Tehran having concluded that its leverage over the Strait of Hormuz is capable of triggering a global energy crisis.

Beyond the fact that Trump again confirmed he's always changeable-but-transparent (i.e., the old Russia conspiracy stuff never made sense), the main outcome of Iran 2026 is that it forced other countries to pick a side.

Lots of nominally anti-Israel Arab states confirmed that they hate Iran more than they hate the USA and Israel. This is a huge shift from the 1970s OPEC era. They will punch Iran. Similarly, Europe finally "gets" that the pre-Ukraine NATO status quo is dead. In not assisting and blocking US planes from landing, they confirmed they will go it alone. NATO is functionally dead. Europe will have to pay for their own defense and not hide behind Mommy USA's skirt.

We always knew that the Gulf-dependent Asian states were economically pragmatic rather than ideological. Without oil millions would starve pretty soon.

WW2 and the US-USSR Cold War are now history -- the new Great Powers conflict got rolling circa 2008 (i.e., the oil price spike for the China Olympics). Will this be a 30-year war? A 100-year war?

The key is changing the trajectory of the war from kinetics to phonetics. For now, anyway. Any list of items can be deemed workable to coax that change. Iran knows much of the 10 won’t be acceptable in the end by the US, GCC, Israel, etc. They are BS artists coaxed into freeing up the Strait for two weeks to relieve pressure. What were they coaxed with? The threat of civilizational annihilation (of the regime) and not being able to escape to anywhere to avoid it.

The best indicator of Trump success is the appearance of the TACO obsessed, who never tire of being wrong whether looking forward or back. The consensus yesterday was that last night would be a war crime. Now that we have removed the Mullah escape plan (win!) and disabled Karg Island's defenses (win!) the TDS crazies are here to tell us we have "capitulated."

We did not surrender to Iran's demands and vacate the ME. We did not acquiesce to them and stop bombing. None of the synonyms for "capitulate" make sense when substituted. Try again losers!

They're out on the streets celebrating the peace (not "winning the war") and trying to peacefully back the Iranian civilian government, and push back against the military dictatorship that is actually running the country. That's how I read that crowd. Are they chanting "Death to America"? That's the big tip off. They're unhappy about the 30,000 civilian deaths the Iranian military did, just a few months ago. Amazing to hear our liberals backing a military dictatorship in Iran. I support the people of Iran, but the IRGC is awful, truly awful.

I don’t know what the intent of the above quote is, perhaps to say that Trump is dumb for bombing and then wanting to rebuild? but it seems that Trump is trying to establish a in win situation. Is that not the nice modern thing to do? In WW2 we destroyed Europe and then had a Marshall Plan, was that stupid?

Imagine having a set of political beliefs that are so strong, you'd twist yourself into a pretzel trying to turn a potential win into a loss, because of a president you don't like. And all while hoping that the terroristic, theocratic dictatorship that implicitly wants the world to end, to achieve full world domination, can somehow be interpreted as the victor.

And the hate being so strong, that you can't even dare to suggest that such a perverse outcome as the 'world ending', might be a bad thing.

Or that there might be something constructive to 'not waiting' for a nuclear weapon to be deployed to annihilate a country, when it's been announced publicly as an objective, with years of methodical steps standing as confirmation toward reaching that goal.

The Iranians are quite rightly asking for reparations. What is the bill for "Bombing them back to the stone age"? $100 Billion? How much compensation is due to the families of the the schoolgirls killed? Or the damage caused by Israel's wanton destruction of houses, schools, and hospitals?

We'll see. Also, Iran wants all US bases outta the gulf and Iraq. Probably something Trump can do since they were worthless in the war, and were just fat juicy targets for Iranian missiles.

According to Defense (War) Secretary Pete Hegseth, the main goal of the U.S.-led operation ("Operation Epic Fury") against Iran, which began on February 28, 2026, was described as a "laser-focused" mission to "destroy the missile threat, destroy the navy, no nukes".

Hegseth emphasized that the operation, conducted in conjunction with Israel, had several key objectives:
"No Nukes": Eliminating Iran's nuclear capabilities.
Military Destruction: Targeting Iranian ballistic missile sites, naval forces, and command and control infrastructure.
Decisive Mission: Hegseth stated the mission was to stop Iran from projecting power outside its borders.
"Not Endless": Hegseth rejected the notion that the conflict would be a long-term nation-building endeavor, aiming instead for a rapid, overwhelming impact.

Demolition of some of the houses is a necessary part of gentrification of a bad neighborhood. East Austin, east of I-35, where the Blacks and the Hispanics were segregated up until about 2000, is a good example of how you have to tear down some rotting structures to build new houses for people.

I, for one, applaud the demolition of the Iranian missile production and uranium enrichment capabilities, and the destruction of so very much of their missile and drone stockpile, (and Navy and Air Force) , and hope the current Iranian intransigence does not require the demolition of the rest of their infrastructure, some of which is not solely for military use (but a legit target because the military does use it).

ROCEAN suggests removal of all US bases in the Mideast because they are fat juicy targets. I suggest more bases, to disperse the targets and increase the ability to respond extremely disproportionately to misbehavior by neighbors like Iran. As to reparations, no. The Iranians refused to behave in a civilized manner and were rewarded for their barbarity. That the US had to fix the problem they caused should mean we get repaid for our time & expense.

Mob and graft embedded in construction industry, particularly in concrete and roadway/earthwork sectors. That "developer mode" thinking is evident in his actions and nonactions, unconventional thinking, protocols routinely ignored, kid glove diplomacy.skpped.

Obama gave Iranians $1.7 billion in cash, packed in plastic-wrapped skids of money, courtesy of his chief advisor, Iranian sympathist Valerie Jarrett. No concessions by Iran, their belligerence, terrorist funding, and nuclear weapon capacity, all left unchecked, supplemented by extra $1.7 billion cash spending money. 50 years of failed American presidential policy: Carter, then compounded by Obama, then incomprehension of Autopen Joe.
