GOD. Are we going to be subjected to Kamala Harris' grafted on family even after she lost the election? Shove these talentless grifters off the socials, already. Even Chelsea Clinton knew when she'd worn out her welcome.
What’s Commie-Lay on? Did she ever release her medical records in either campaign? CC, JSM
does controlled intermittent hypoxic training increase serotonin levels?
Controlled intermittent hypoxic training (CIHT) can increase serotonin levels by stimulating the brain's neurochemical response to low oxygen, activating serotonergic neurons, and enhancing serotonin-dependent plasticity in the brainstem. This therapeutic, low-dose exposure (e.g., 28 days) acts as a form of compensation.
Key details regarding this process include:
Mechanism: When arterial oxygen drops, sensory neurons are activated, which boosts the activity of serotonin-containing neurons in the brain.
Protocol Dependency: Therapeutic effects (increased serotonin/neuroplasticity) are generally associated with moderate, acute, or intermittent protocols.
Benefits: Studies indicate that this process may improve mood, with potential antidepressant and anxiolytic effects.
Distinction: It is important to distinguish this from chronic intermittent hypoxia, which can cause neuroinflammation and negative health outcomes.
Target Areas: The increase in serotonin-dependent plasticity is particularly noted in the hypoglossal motor nucleus, which is vital for breathing.
Some research indicates that while some brain regions might experience depletion, the overall therapeutic application of controlled, low-dose intermittent hypoxia typically results in beneficial physiological adaptations, including increased serotonin.
Yes, improving gut health can significantly increase serotonin levels, as approximately 90-95% of the body's serotonin is produced in the gastrointestinal tract. A healthy gut microbiome, supported by a diet rich in fiber, fermented foods, and nutrients like tryptophan, enables specialized gut cells and microbes to produce this neurotransmitter, which regulates mood, sleep, and digestion.
What a sad case, really. When I first saw this child, I wanted to cringe. She may as well have had an 'Exploit Me' sign around her neck, tailor-made as the damaged child of a prominent politician. She so desperately wants to be accepted, and there are so many sycophants wanting to be in that crowd of pretenders. I really do feel sorry for her. It's made her very angry and toxic.
There’s some data that taking SSRIs can lead to gender dysphoria. These drugs need thorough testing across multiple human types and time durations.
I had a friend who has been beating the drum about the dangers of SSRIs for 20 years. He was put on them and had a horrible reaction and getting off them was a nightmare of withdrawal. We are so quick to medicate but not to find a proper therapist who uses behavioral modification techniques to manage and understand stress and anxiety. (not some crazy drivel, but actual behavioral modification)We are not teaching anyone to cope and be resilient.
Do you know what Democrats call the dangerously high percentage of women on these drugs?
“Our base.”
Thumbs up, Wince.
The mental health theme running through the blog today is interesting.
Howard: is that why the girls on pornhub like being choked? Are they self-medicating? CC, JSM
"y'all… I will not be getting off my meds."
TBH good for Ella looking out for the public's welfare. If only all of this country's mental cases could be so self-conscious.

Our drug industry is just pure evil.
I don't know how people can defend what they are doing. They have made trillions of dollars selling Statins which are worse than snake oil.
SSRIs look even worse than that.

I contracted two surgical infections during my last hip replacement, and to keep them at bay I take Keflex as a prophylactic antibiotic. I take a very potent probiotic to counter the effects of the Keflex on my gut, but I still had loose stools and I was queasy all the time. Two months ago I started eating unpasteurized sauerkraut, just a couple three tablespoons a day, and occasionally as a side with meals, and effects were immediate. No more loose stools and don't feel the queasiness anymore.
I couldn't find unpasteurized sauerkraut in any of the stores I have access too, but I did find Bubbies Sauerkraut, 25 Fl Oz (Pack of 2) at Amazon. Use the Althouse portal.
Ella started taking anti-anxiety drugs right around the time Kamala came into her life. My anxiety levels dropped dramatically in November 2024, right around the time Kamala was removed from my life.
As we’ve seen in many venues lately, some livelihoods depend on people not getting well or off the streets or getting the policies enacted that they voted for successfully. Etc.
Been there, done that. Been about 20 years ago. When you're on them, you want to add them to the water supply, so everybody can be "ironed out flat" like you. When/If you manage to think straight again, you must carefully tape off your dosage over time, or you can go "nuts". These are effective, but still poorly understood.
Best wishes to Ella. Life is hard.
Are those cutting scars on her arm??

Not fiber.
Amino acids. You don't need bacteria to get serotonin. You need meat and eggs.

My question: Is one side effect of SSRIs using uptalk?
leftie women (in Fact, MOST young women) are on SSRIs
leftie women (in Fact, MOST young women) are batshit CRAZY
serious question: which is the chicken? which is the egg?
another serious question:
has ICE shot ANYONE, ANYWHERE, that WASN'T on SSRIs?
I'm sure assuming that Goodie Good and Pretti Boy were on them
I know I'm not the first to notice, but Trump's kids, and their spouses, are so squared away and seemingly happy. Compare and contrast to Biden's, Kamala's, Reiner's, and other lefties. I will say that the Obama kids seemed to dodge the bullet.
I was in residency when the first SSRI came out. They were game changers in the treatment of depression. Before them, the drugs we had for depression had very serious side effects - like cardiac arrhythmias and they were easy to use to kill yourself, so we relied more on talk therapy and reserved drugs for recalcitrant cases (at least that was the approach in my training.) But the SSRIs didn't have nearly the incidence of side effects, so they were used much more broadly. And of course, it is so much easier to give someone a drug than to do the work of talk therapy. It's easier for the doctor and easier for the patient. Easier isn't always better, though. Their use really took off when drug advertising to the public was no longer restricted. It's easy to convince yourself you are depressed when you are just going through some normal period of sadness. I tried to avoid prescribing them to adolescents and children because I feared they would be robbed of the opportunity to learn to recognize and process their emotions. Instead, I would refer them to specialists, but they usually came back on SSRIs anyway. Sometimes it feels like my profession has devolved into a subsidiary of the pharma industry.
It is a serious problem in our country. And just another example of the medical establishment, for the most part, walking in line, never questioning the standardized position on drugs, diagnoses, health, nutrition and so much more. I personally sought out doctors who were open to various other views of healthcare, nutrition information, etc. New information is always coming in. It's crucial that we find doctors who take the effort to keep up, and are open to new information. Here's my current doc.
In all seriousness, we drug ourselves to death. Just try counting the number of pharmaceutical adds you are bombarded with over a week. Since when was football sponsored by Pharma companies? What happened to beer and cars?
We drug our young boys to be less like young boys and more like empty shells of themselves.
We drug our women- young and old- with SSRIs so that they can be more like empty shells of themselves.
What are we doing?

how about Gov Walz? or Gaven Newsom? Mayor Pete?
let's do a poll: WHICH politicians do YOU Think AREN'T on meds?
Is that why shes so emo psycho
Leftism produces nothing good, ultimately.
Tryptophan from meat and eggs is critical for serotonin manufacturing in the gut
Yes, beneficial gut bacteria (specifically species like Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium) significantly influence the conversion of tryptophan into serotonin. They achieve this directly by metabolizing tryptophan and indirectly by stimulating host enterochromaffin cells to produce serotonin, which is crucial for gut motility and immune function.
When it comes to mental health care for teens and young adults, there is no "very best medical care". In reality, it is a chaotic mess and everyone is left on their own. I'm no fan, but I will never judge someone like Kamala based on how they tried to deal with child mental health issues.
FYI, Achilles, by eating lots of soluble and insoluble fiber digestion slows down which increases the amount of protein that can be utilized for muscle protein synthesis.
The Meathead diet like the ketogenic diet is for extreme conditions and acute use only.
The poor girl had to “look the other way” a little too often.

What's worse, Bobby saying maybe a keto diet is good for serious mental health problems or Emhoff's kind of endless drug dependency?
“I will say that the Obama kids seemed to dodge the bullet.”
They’re young, just give them some time…
Like Jeffrey Epstein was telling Steve Bannon, everything in life is a complex system problem with complex networks of interconnected and interdependent nodes.
“Controlled intermittent hypoxic training (CIHT) can increase serotonin levels by stimulating the brain's neurochemical response to low oxygen, activating serotonergic neurons, and enhancing serotonin-dependent plasticity in the brainstem.”
Like David Carradine said, “stay away from ropes and doorknobs, grasshopper!”
Not uncommon among the children of celebrities.
If they decrease her sex drive and the chance that she procreates, it's all good.
She's also lucky that puberty blockers weren't prescribed.
You'll have to pry the zolpidem out of my cold, dead hands.
Magical stuff, if you've ever suffered from some form of insomnia.
I can dislike her stepmother, and I can dislike the things she says about politics, but I cannot help but empathize with her situation. It must be awful. Not drugging your child takes strength when it would make things so much easier. We faced a CPS investigation called for by the school because we wouldn't drug our middle son. It actually turned out he was suffering the onset of Type 1 diabetes and that effected his personality. (I should have sued the district for having a nurse on staff that would trigger a CPS call without being able to recognize diabetic symptoms.)
Go back to basic principles. Simple gardening and direct skin contact with dirt improves human health. Physical activity, nature exposure, fresh produce, and direct contact with soil microbes. Studies show reductions in depression, anxiety, and stress, and increases in life satisfaction, mood, self-esteem, and quality of life. Who knew that these effects come from a combination of exercise, mindfulness, sunlight (for vitamin D), and the sense of accomplishment? Your grandparents and earlier non-SSRI generations.
Modern urban life reduces exposure to beneficial environmental microbes (our evolutionary "old friends"), contributing to immune disorder, allergies, autoimmunity, and inflammation. Reconnecting with soil microbes helps restore balance. Bonus: no smartphone required.
So once winter is over, get into some dirt. Ok to not use gloves for some of the work. Not sure how to induce the yoots, esp young female yoots who are on SSRIs, to pick up a trowel.
As we’ve seen in many venues lately, some livelihoods depend on people not getting well or off the streets or getting the policies enacted that they voted for successfully. Etc.
The very last thing the Democrats want is for societal problems to be solved. There's neither power nor profit to be had down that road. Peaceful, contented people, living in safety and prosperity, and getting along well with their neighbors, do not vote for left-wing radicals.
They WANT poverty.
They WANT misery.
They WANT racial discord.
They WANT illiteracy.
They WANT crime.
Their whole identity is built around having fearful, angry, unhappy, dependent people clamoring for more and more and more government. If there's not enough racism left to incite the crowd, they will manufacture it Smollett-style, as they have so frequently in the past.
With all the alcohol and weed in society, people complain about SSRIs.
Baghdad Bob at 8:33: loved the comment. But like Hillary, Kamala might be back!
“She seems to have been on these drugs since she was about 12, and Kamala Harris has been her stepmother since 2014.”
Maybe we shouldn’t jump to the conclusion that drugs are the problem here.
Howard--does Jameson Black Barrel count as a "fermented food?"
Asking for a friend.
I really love the ability of videos to play some thoughts from Person A and then stop, and have Person B offer feedback on that, go back to Person A, etc. It's like what bloggers used to do that was called fisking, but doesn't need to be hostile. It's a way of deepening what is being talked about, expanding it, etc.
Sydney said: Sometimes it feels like my profession has devolved into a subsidiary of the pharma industry.
I worked with a lot of different therapists, psychologists and psychiatrists when I was in practice. Over time, it seemed as if the default "cure" became getting the psychiatrist in your practice to prescribe SSRIs.
Mental health professionals have increasingly given up on talk therapy in favor of SSRIs because it is a lot easier and because their training has become increasingly poor over the decades.
Boatbilder - Good question. Sorry, you'd need to consume the mash to get those therapeutic benefits but as your friend can almost certainly attest, the distilled product has its own benefit.
Talk therapy doesn’t work. SSRIs work
Maybe I'm just too old but, "In my day," no children were taking anti-depressants. We had little emotional support outside of our families, and even then it was, "Suck it up". Yet suicide rates continue to rise. I think that drugs should be limited to extreme cases and that children should be taught to resolve their anxieties non-chemically. Maybe not, "Suck it up," but a little toughness might serve them well.
Ella a model for some couture line while her step Mom was VP. That environment would not be conducive to good mental health either.
Miss Emhoff is asking good questions. I will have to look to be sure but I would be shocked if there aren't large scale retrospective studies on the long term use of these drugs since they have been around for over 30 years now. I have a close relative who has been on Prozac since she was a teenager and I know she went off of it during the pregnancy for her only child. I don't know what her experience of this has been, though- she has never discussed it.
Most of the clinical studies cited for the approval of SSRI medications lasted for just 6-12 weeks. There has been surprisingly little research on their safety and effectiveness when taken long-term, even though a significant number of people use them for five years or longer.

Alternative hypothesis: You are dropped in a forest or on a grass land plain 100,000 years ago and you are hungry.
What are you going to eat?
Without domesticated agriculture fiber is not a thing.
We killed a giant ground sloth and ate it for millions of years. We got tall and fast.
Then we domesticated agriculture 12000 years ago. We started turning back into primates.
Fiber is just a term corporate agriculture puts out there to keep people on the track to turn humans back into primates. In order to house that bacteria and that fiber your gut has to expand particularly your gall bladder like in Chimps and Gorillas. Our gall bladders are all but vestigial.
People with high fiber diets have big guts compared to their brains like gorillas and chimpanzees.
That must have been one humungous giant sloth ...
"In order to house that bacteria and that fiber your gut has to expand particularly your gall bladder like in Chimps and Gorillas."
I thought the gall bladder was for bile salts, which help with digesting fat. Not fiber. Of course, everything they told me my whole life was either a calculated lie or just some clown's maunderings while high. Christ, what a world. How can it be considered "abnormal" to be anxious, irritable and depressed? That just means you are paying some minimal amount of attention.
"Talk therapy doesn’t work. SSRIs work."
Well, you're right about the first part, but I'm not so sure about the second. Can it really be the case, that taking SSRIs for decades is the very best course of action open to someone who does not enjoy the life that adults have assembled for them? When I was 14, some quack prescribed drugs for my depression. But I flushed them down the toilet. Later, I found that getting out of that shithole of a school had done absolute wonders for my "depression". Just really cleared it right up. Like it was situational, but the people constituting the situation had a hard time recognizing that fact.
But I have read claims that SSRIs "work" for, at most, a quarter of the people they are prescribed for. And what does that mean? You started taking them when you were 15, and now you are 27 and you haven't killed yourself, so they must have worked. And in any case, you are now seriously addicted to them. I suppose that constitutes "working" from the point of view of the faceless corporation that manufactures the things.
"We are not teaching anyone to cope and be resilient."
Stop waiting for it to get easier. Learn to handle hard better.
Sydney,
*Sometimes*???
