MSNBC reported that the alleged meeting between Homan and agents took place in September 2024 and was captured by hidden cameras.

Remind me who was president on that date, where the promise was made to steer contracts his way for cash? Contracts that never came, because, you know, Joe Biden lost the election.

Movie Review - On the Bowery (1956). What we would call a "Docudrama" today. The actors are unprofessional. The Locations are real. NYC - The Bowery duh. But there is a story and the dialogue is scripted.

THis was supposed to be a "raw" "OMG how horrible" look at the bums and alcoholics in NYC. Its pretty interesting, not for the story or acting but for the shots of "real life". What amazing looking back from 2025 is how white and civilized everything is. Even "The bums" wear suits and dress shoes!

There's no evidence of drugs and most of the "Bums" drink and live on the street. If they sleep in the park, they're picked up and spend the night in jail. Money is obtained by doing day labor and panhandling. And spent on beer and whiskey in the numerous bars and restaurants.

Only 65 minutes and that's about the right length.

"Gettysburg" is probably the best civil war film done, ever. The Hollywood studio moguls came to the USA after 1890, so they had zero interest in the civil war. GWTW was done because the book was a massive best seller in the 30s.

I've lived next door the Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library for 17 years, but have never been inside, because I consider him one of the worst presidents ever, and one of the worst human beings ever to be president. I can't think of anything admirable he ever did. Yet many people admire him.

I don't abuse them, because I'm pretty sure that whatever they admire him for, it's not the things I despise him most for: resegregating the armed forces and federal bureaucracy, jailing the third-party candidate in his reelection race, and the Palmer Raids, and generally being a racist protofascist asshole.

Has Jaq ever thought of researching what Bandera's admirers admire him for? I strongly suspect it's for fighting against Stalin for Ukrainian independence, not for any ethnic massacres committed along the way. In fact, the more Jaq insists that Ukrainians deserve to be slaves for admiring Bandera, the more I wonder how much of the accusations against him are Russian propaganda.

And I'm still waiting for Jaq to tell me why Romania should not ban their own retro-Nazis from running for office. If Banderites are beyond the pale, surely unapologetic admirers of the genocidal Hitler-allied Iron Guard are too. One of the Putin-allied Romanian politicians, a 101-year-old retired general, seems to have fought side by side with the Wehrmacht. It appears that Jaq's hostility to admirers of Nazi allies is purely situational, and he likes them very well if they like Putin.

I once talked to this old guy (a former alky) in L.A. We were watching some young street people propped up against a building as we were waiting for a bus. The old guy was from Chicago. He said in his youth there was always a job at the slaughter houses. I don’t even know if they took down names. If you showed up and did the work, you got paid in cash at the end of the day. He said it was back breaking work but if you were an alcoholic or a druggie you knew you could make money when you needed it. It was enough to keep you off the streets. And he said the work made you feel like a man. He said it was physically exhausting and you were spent when you finished the day but the money you worked for made you feel good. Today, the old guy said (pointing at the young men) there!s nothing like that for them.

Something important that’s being missed with the Jimmy Kimmel saga…

By spreading the vile lie that Charlie was assassinated by MAGA, the implicit message from Kimmel was clear: If you kill a conservative, we will cover for you. We will whitewash the murder because we don’t think conservatives deserve to live. Kill more. Assassinate more. We have your back.

This is evil.

Executives at ABC rightly received a deluge of complaints from affiliates. They asked Kimmel to apologize for lying and he refused, instead vowing to double down. Only then did he get canned.

Networks like ABC, NBC, and CBS enjoy massive taxpayer supported privileges and advantages because they are supposed to contribute to the “public good.” Those privileges come with a responsibility to not knowingly spread harmful lies like the one Kimmel was spreading.

Jimmy Kimmel is not a victim. He’s a liar.

Jimmy Kimmel is not a martyr. Charlie is.

Let’s keep that straight.

I see snarky comments about both movies to the effect that they portray Southerners in too favorable a light. Sheesh.

Okay, Homan sting op: It took place in September 2024. So before the election. Homan did not hold any office at the time - neither did Trump. What exactly was the quid-pro-quo? "Hey, give me 50 grand, and if Trump wins, and if he appoints me to something, I'll make sure you get a contract?" I really doubt it was that explicit. "If Trump wins, I'll put in a good word for you?" If Homan doesn't have an office, that's just lobbying. Happens all the time. It's called petitioning your government for redress.

Doing it before the election is some kind of interference/"insurance policy." Damned dirty stuff.

I would be interested to know if, after 1/20/2025 but before Trump got complete control of DOJ, the fake businessmen reached out to Homan and asked "so? What did Trump say?" - in other words, kept the sting going. That would be even damneder, dirtier stuff.

As always, my 2-word masthead motto is "Imagine Obama." Imagine if in 2008-2009, the Bureau tried this crap with Axelrod or Rahm or somebody like that. No, you can't imagine that. CC, JSM

Jim5301: "And you see no inconsistency between Kirk’s love for debate and the administration’s efforts to go after and censor his critics. You are one odd fruit."

Well, one of the reasons Kirk (pbuh) had to venture out into dangerous places was because so many lines of communication had been captured by the Left: MSM, faculty lounges, social media, etc. The Administration is merely acting to balance the scales in those areas where government was already acting to tip the scales: licensing issues, Title IX, discretionary funding. As somewhat of a libertarian, Charlie (z''l) probably sees this as at least a good first step. CC, JSM

Ronald J. Ward said...

John Mosby, your argument reeks of that authoritarian slide I’ve previously argued. Let’s revisit;

Stage One: “We’re defending the Constitution.”
Stage Two: “The system’s already rigged, so intervention is justified.”
Stage Three: “It’s okay for the government to step in and ‘correct’ the imbalance.”
Stage Four: “Strong authority is necessary to save the nation.”

You are essentially conceding that government power is being used to “balance the scales” in speech—which, if you strip the spin, means state involvement in picking winners and losers. That’s the exact slippery slope I’ve been mapping in the stages of constitutional decline:

You appear to be parked squarely in Stage Two and bleeding into Stage Three. You’re rationalizing selective enforcement and censorship because you see it as “restoring balance.” That logic is indistinguishable from every authoritarian justification in history:

“We must restrict some freedoms now to preserve the greater good.”

If government “balancing the scales” in speech isn’t censorship, then what is it? And if you’re comfortable with that power today, what stops the next administration from wielding it against you tomorrow?

I like memoirs, and one of the best I've come across is "The Civil Memoir of Philip Daingerfield Stephenson, D.D." edited by my late friend Nathaniel Cheairs Hughes, Jr.

Stephenson was an underage volunteer in an Arkansas infantry unit for a time, and then transferred to the 5th Company of the Washington Artillery of New Orleans.

The WANO were an artillery battalion and a social club at the same time. The original four batteries were sent east and served there throughout the Woah; the 5th Company was raised later and served in the Army of Tennessee.

Hughes wrote a separate book about the 5th Company, a unique unit within a unique unit.

Both are available from a portal near you.
