Effective immediately we need to make it impossible for any individual that identifies as trans to legally purchase or own firearms. Secondly we must create exclusion zones around school and churches so that individuals who identify as trans are prohibited from coming within 400 meters (a quarter mile) of the school or church. Prevention is the only option, since the threat of punishment won’t work. Note that this Westman f***er killed himself and the one down in Nashville engaged two armed, Kevlar vest-wearing police officers, which is the same thing.
Note that as a soldier in basic training I had to knock down targets at 400 meters to earn my “Expert” marksmanship badge, so 400 meters is the closest we can allow them to get.

The larger situation for society is the kids undergoing ordinary adolescent mood swings who are (1) medicated for anxiety, depression, or whatever, so that they're even more off balance, (2) convinced that their normal sexual-emotional development, which includes all sorts of feelings they've never had before about their bodies and other people's bodies, is actually a symptom of what used to be called gender dysphoria but is now called "being trans," (3) love-bombing the new trans person, and (4) making their transition permanent and continuing to tell them they're finally good and correct, so that Those Who Went Before don't have to acknowledge their own regrets. We know that at least 80% of these kids grow out of their "gender dysphoria" if left alone (and I'd put money on that percentage being much higher if it weren't for the fact that no one leaves these kids alone any more). These kids are not crazy and won't become spree killers (unless the whole testosterone overdose acts on them in a truly terrible way, if they're FTM). They just need to grow up. But instead, they're so horribly damaged.

My comment sounds heartless. The M to F trans people are (often rightly) castigated as predatory sociopaths, but it is worth keeping in mind that many are just confused and decent boys who do not know how to make the move into being adult men. The victims of this malign new mindset exist in both sexes. I have been absolutely amazed by how quickly this trend was normalized (I hate that word, but in this case it is appropriate) and made mainstream. The damage done to our children is incalculable.

This is similar to the point I was trying to make. Teenagers are already, mentally, vulnerable. Some say this is the most vulnerable point in a human's life, when socialization is taking a different aspect, when the body is going through puberty, when hormones begin to assert themselves and the biological urges manifests, and the idea of 'self' begins to emerge.
And in this particular era, our society has become a predator of sorts, reinforcing certain self-destructive behaviors, making transgenderism an attractive, approved option. It's an evil exploitation, doing this. The result is a vulnerable child, thinking this is an accepted option, now signs up for something that is sold with deception and friendly support, and irreversible in nature. It's only later that the consequences begin to set in. Only then, that the victimized child starts getting those 'No Way Out' feelings, because at that point, it's true.

Annunciation is my wife's childhood parish. It's in a prosperous neighborhood. Westman's mother worked for the parish and it appears that she signed the papers allowing Westman to change his name to Robin, as he was not yet 18. Mayor Frey's comments were absolutely ridiculous - ridiculing prayer at this point is precisely the wrong message, but Frey is afraid he's going to lose his office to Omar Fateh, a Dollar General version of Mamdani.

Indeed so. I’ve been taking a break from Althouse again for several days. I popped in to see what commenters might be saying about today. If I read too much or engage in argument, I find that I allow myself to match meanness for meanness, not something I feel good about at all.

I was thinking along similar lines (yikes Hannibal Lecter) but he makes a valid point. This guy seemed to be looking for ways to be as evil ( or crazy) as he possibly could be.
It is so difficult to resist joining in on the bitterness. We all want to be right and to show up the other side for their perfidy. I'm certainly no exception to this. None of us really knows all that much. It helps to have friends and relatives who we love and respect who disagree with us. It makes a person wonder just what we really know to be true.
School shooters almost by definition are mentally ill. I think almost all transgender teens/young adults are mentally ill and we seem to have produced a enormous bumper crop of the such young people starting about 10 years ago. As a statistical matter, one should expect about half of the school shooters today to be in the transgender category since it seems to make up a majority of mentally ill young people these days. It might have nothing to do with hormones or maybe it does- the issue really hasn't been studied the way it should have been before the numbers of teens getting such treatment rose 1000%+ in the last decade. For all we know the vast increase in the numbers of young people on various legal and illegal mind-altering drugs is responsible.
I don't have children but if I did today, they would not be dosed with anything recommended by health "experts".
Some of the coverage of this today was appalling, however. ABC News went with "shooter had Trump's name on his gun". Of course, they didn't actually tell you the rest of the sentence that included Trump's name because that would spoil the narrative they were trying to imply that the guy was some sort of right wing nutjob.

It's unusual for suicidal people to become homicidal. But if they have a political party that blames (and identifies) specific targets for all this rage, that could easily happen. All this hatred is bad, of course. But weaponizing it and romanticizing it is really nefarious.
Also, I wouldn't expect medical doctors to explore whether they are making people with sexual dysmorphia worse. It's like asking them to find out if abortion kills a baby. A lot of bad shit has happened with a doctor's note.
