Make acting great again: "Greatness. I know people don’t usually talk like that."

"I know we’re in a subjective business, but the truth is, I’m really in pursuit of greatness. I know people don’t usually talk like that, but I want to be one of the greats. I’m inspired by the greats. I’m inspired by the greats here tonight...."

Humility is the go-to tone for awards accepting, and Timmy eschewed it. He came right out and said he's aiming for greatness. "I know the classiest thing would be to downplay the effort that went into this role and how much this means to be, but... I poured everything I had into playing this incomparable artist, Mr. Bob Dylan, a true American hero...."

I hear Timmy's speech as part of the new masculine pride, which I associate with Trump and those in his vicinity, which is not Hollywood. But it belongs in Hollywood, and Timmy's a good exemplar of hard work and aspiration to greatness. It's okay again — isn't it? — to strive to achieve.

My instinct is to dislike this kid. But he overcomes that.

Make Hollywood "Great" Again?

It's refreshing to hear it said out loud. We all should be striving for greatness in whatever we endeavor. That's why we reject DEI, which is a replacement of greatness with skin color/race/sex. Let's keep it simple: hire the best person for the job regardless of physical of metaphysical characteristics.

Striving is a human ambition embraced by both sexes.

Why must it be masculine? I understand he’s male, but women can decide to be great to and proud of it. Riley Gaines is proud. She worked hard to be the best woman swimmer. She wasn’t going to be told that tying a mediocre biological male meant she needed to accept being second to him.

Timmy can pretend to be great. That’s as good as it gets. For him.

1. If I would have gone to Yale instead of Creighton, his mom would have been in my class.

2. Fox and Friends ran a story today - with all sorts of stats - showing how Gen Z supports Trump. When you’ve lost the young people….

Real men don't have accents over their name. That's UnAmerican.

Hey, I felt a disturbance in the force that woke me at 2:52am my time this morning. I had to terminate the italics that ‘fly left on in his frenzy.

It was my first attempt at greatness on this Monday morning.

As did his hero, Bob Dylan, Timothee and all of us must escape the passive-aggressive trap of Minnesota Nice.

I have yet to see any of his movies. His speech was impressive. I will check out his films.

His father is French. He was raised there.

Men with Spanish origin names might want to have a word with you.

How about an umlaut? Any German origin names (or words) with an -ae-, -oe-, or -ue- spelling is really -ä-, -ö-, or -ü- in an alternative typeface.

I've been pleasantly surprised by Chalamet. When I first became aware of him, I had a knee-jerk reaction that he likely was another skinny, somewhat effeminate beta male that Hollywood was trying to push as "the New Man," but he surprised me by succeeding in the "hero" role in the Dune movies. Furthermore, he seems to have his own mind. Good for him!

How about an umlaut?

"My absolute priority will be to strengthen the umlaut as quickly as possible so that, step by step, we can really achieve independence from the USA." -- Friedrich Merz

He's in the wrong line of work.

Dylan shook me out of the Beach Boys and made me think, so I'll always have great regard for him. As far as this kid - liked him both in Greenwich Village and on Arrakis, but I think Olivier is safe for now.

He wasn’t raised in France. He was raised in NYC. He visited grandparents in France, though. He pronounces it Timothy in the U.S.

@Dave Begley: "Gen Z supports Trump. When you’ve lost the young people…." You're missing the Democrat Grand Strategy: convince large numbers of the young to transition to a different gender. Trans are the highest Democrat demographic. Yeah, that'll work.

My experience in France is that French women think it's giggle-worthy for a grown man to be named Timothy. Or maybe it just looks ridiculous on me.
