Joe Rogan says the book — "Fight: Inside the Wildest Battle for the White House" — lied about how and why Kamala Harris missed appearing on his podcast.

Here's the video, cued to the right place, and I've got transcript underneath it, but if you want to read an article about it, with lots of quotes from the podcast, here's this, from the Hollywood Reporter: "Joe Rogan Says Harris Campaign Lied About Being Misled by Show: 'We Have the Receipts'/The podcaster details what he says really happened between his podcast team and the Harris campaign during their much-disputed booking effort: 'It's someone trying to cover their ass.'"

I recommend the original source, the video:

Transcript (from Podscribe, with my editing based on listening to the audio):

Truth is the most valuable thing. If you're speaking openly about something. If you're talking about something publicly, truth is the most important thing. As soon as you are willing to violate truth, to preserve something else... now I can't listen to you anymore... And obviously politics is the best example of that. I mean especially today. I guess it's probably a good time to talk about this. There was a thing that came out recently. There was a book, some book about the Kamala Harris campaign where they talked about her getting on this show, and they said a bunch of things that weren't true. They... supposedly talked to like 150 different people about... what happened with her coming on this show.... They didn't talk to us. Which is kind of crazy....

They didn't even ask, but they said things that just weren't true. One of the things they said that weren't true was that we lied about the day that Trump was coming on. No, we just didn't tell you that Trump was coming on. He was already booked a long time ago. This is how it worked. Trump was really easy to book. Like super easy. We offered one day, he said yes. That was it. There was no, what are we gonna talk about? How long is it gonna be? Is it gonna be edited? There was nothing.... It was so easy. So he was already booked. They never committed to doing the show.... Even after Trump went on, they offered for me to come to DC and do a show with Kamala. But even then it was... only like 45 minutes to an hour. And, you know, it was not on my set. And I said that, look, he did it here. We should probably do it here. Like if it's possible to do it here.

Obviously ,when he did it, it had an enormous result. I'm willing to do the same thing for her. I wanted to release both of them on the same day. This was my goal. I was even trying to figure out if there was a way that I could do it. And I even offered to do it late that night. So the night that Trump came on, I'm like, what if we do her, like when she's done [with her Beyoncé rally] in Texas, if she came here but no one ever committed to doing it, this is like really important. 'cause they keep pretending that I lied or I did this or I did that. No one, they never committed to doing it....

We have all the receipts by the way. Of course I have a whole list of conversations that took place. They never said she was gonna do it. So this whole idea that we fucked her over and that we, we fucked her over for Trump. Incorrect. Just not true. But I think it's someone trying to cover their ass for the fact that she never did it. And if she did do it, it might have had a positive effect.  If her and I had a good time and we got along great and she went over, You know, the air quote, young male vote, things could have been different.... So this guy's probably trying to cover his ass....

This guy's saying like that we, we were difficult to deal with. Not true. We were super easy. We made it real clear. But also it's gotta be the actual real show. It shouldn't be some fake version of it where I'm sitting in a conference room. Oh, also they wanted a stenographer in the room. They wanted staff in the room. They wanted some, Trump was just in here by himself. Just me, him and Jamie. That's it for three hours. Like they wanted to do everything. They wanted it very controlled, and they were really concerned that it wasn't gonna be edited. So I don't think they ever really were sure they wanted to do it.

Then once Trump did it and it had this huge response, I think then it was like, what the fuck, what are we doing? He just did it. It's got 50 fucking million views. This is so stupid. Why didn't we do it? So then there was, even then when they offered to do it in DC my manager asked, is she committed to doing this?... No, she hasn't committed to doing this. Have you brought this to her? Like they wouldn't even say whether or not she had expressed willingness to do it or whether they were trying to convince her to do it.

There was, we know for sure, there were some people that were supposedly on her staff that were against her doing it. They thought it was a bad.., you know, it's a bunch of wokesters. They're, they're basically in a cult.... I think we would've had fun.... Maybe it's someone's trying to preserve their job, maybe someone's trying to say, Hey, it wasn't my fault... And so just whoever's in charge of spreading that narrative, that's deceptive....

Who are the authors of this book who, according to Joe, failed to ask Rogan for his side of the story?  They are Jonathan Allen and Amie Parnes. Before this new book, they wrote 2 books about Hillary Clinton — one of which, "Shattered," I put in my Kindle and barely skimmed — and a book about Joe Biden called "Lucky." How could they be so out of it that they wouldn't see the risk that Joe Rogan would hit back on his ultra-popular podcast if they told stories about him that he knew or believed — or wanted to say — are not true? Why would you just pass along one side of the story — especially from people who are "probably trying to cover [their] ass"?

Here's an Amazon link to buy the book — and send me a commission — if you want to check it out for yourself. But I see it's not out until April Fool's Day. According to the description at Amazon: "As Allen and Parnes have done in the #1 New York Times bestseller Shattered and Lucky, they provide readers with a skeleton key to the rooms where it all happened, revealing a story more shocking than previously reported."

Are there skeletons in the closets of the rooms we can enter with that skeleton key?

Maybe it's because they still have the mindset that aw, nobody important listens to Rogan, we can just do this without speaking to him or giving a damn about the truth. We'll still get booked on CNN, MSNBC ... maybe even The View!

I believe Joe Rogan over some lying losers who worked for Harris.

One of the reasons why Trump is so popular.

Rogan is my source for zero. Trump is obviously the guy without him. Kamala was female poison the same way. If everything hinges on going on Rogan we're doomed.

They didn't care about the truth for the same reason theres the clip of the chick from NPR saying that we place too high a value on truth when we should value concensus. Like how the Nazi's had a concensus that the germans were the superior race, and the jews should all die. Which had nothing to do with the truth.

Anybody who ever listened to a single interview with Kamala Harris knows that she could never have appeared on Joe Rogan's show.

Rogan may be right about what’s in a book that hasn’t been published yet, but he’s lying too. Harris’s mistake was not that she didn’t go on Rogan, who was and is clearly a trumptard, but that she didn’t have an effective strategy to counter Trump going in Rogan.

Michael said...

An incredible f-up by the Harris campaign. She needed him, he didn't need her.

Birches said...

I think we can all see the value of having a President that will walk into Rogan without any staff. Trump v1.0 would have done the traditional politician thing, but he's learned to trust his instincts. And I'm so glad. He's unlike anything we've had before.

Kevin said...

These people can’t handle the truth.

Michael said...

Local Dem quipped, "Sending her on Rogan would be like rolling out a paraplegic onto the court to play in an NBA game"

The USAID thing, the Gaza thing. It's all bonkers. And brilliant.

boatbuilder said...

Keep your head in the sand, Left Bank. The effective strategy to counter Trump going on Rogan would be to go on Rogan herself, without ridiculous conditions.

Enigma said...

They feared she'd have dug an even deeper hole for herself, and were probably correct. The Dems made their own bed in 2020 in choosing the Biden-Harris team. Democratic Candidate for President(!) Tulsi Gabbard proved Kamala was a loser way back then.

Ralph L said...

Rogan had already told part of the story. The authors were pretty stupid if they didn't include that or ask for more. Obviously, the campaign knew that more than 20 minutes with Rogan would likely be a disaster.

NBC has an except of the book. I don't think Rogan read it.

they (like gilbar) assumed that the fix was in; and that their "vote count" would be in excess of 100 Million.
But the cheat didn't work this time, and Harris got the same votes as Hillary! (and the same votes as O'Bama).

gilbar said...

didn't rhhardin tell us; that as long as the Republicans were against abortion..
They would NEVER win another election? What happen to that prediction rh?

Jeff Vader said...

“Trumptard” made your moronic screed even dumber. If a presidential candidate cannot handle an interview with a non-sycophant do you actually believe they can handle being president?

gilbar said...

President Tulsi would be in her second term now.
The Democrats COULD HAVE had her.. They DID have her.. They threw her away

Jeff Vader said...

They had no choice, the woman is/was incapable of talking to anyone off the cuff. If she went on Rogan she probably would have lost at least 5 more states

Aggie said...

Well, that's a choice, but it seems a little unusual to treat a podcast as if it's a form of poison. I'm not a frequent consumer of Rogan, but I don't think it rises to this level of toxicity. For me, if it's a super interesting guest, Rogan is on the menu.

RideSpaceMountain said...

"They lied"

Well at least Harris's staffers didn't break character.

Podcasting is something that the political establishment types haven't faced before. Unlike the face-to-face verbal combat of the Sunday Shows or the fawning adulation from the Late Night Talk™ hosts on a podcast candidates cannot simply recite memorized canned answers and viewers can pretty quickly see who's got something to say and who can think on their feet, and who's just an empty suit. Especially so if you are in fact an empty suit too, which VP Harris most certainly was. I think that this analysis explains Harris's hesitation to appear on Rogan.

Leland said...

I don’t recall Rogan saying it was a mistake for Harris to not do the show. He says it might have helped, but Rogan seems very clear that he thought it would be a mistake to do it the way the staff was proposing.

Bring receipts next time you claim someone is lying.

Bob Boyd said...

...she didn’t have an effective strategy to counter Trump going in Rogan.

Like what?

boatbuilder said...

Why should he?

They didn't call him and put out BS. He knows what happened.

Bob Boyd said...

Kamala was never going to go on Rogan. The last thing she and her handlers wanted was an opportunity to show who she really is. The fact that Rogan offered her one created a problem. Trump's appearance made it worse. She's still dealing with the fallout apparently.

BG said...

If Trump hadn't been scheduled for another event, he probably would have kept on going for another couple hours.

Leland said...

The real mistake by progressives is treating former solid Democrat voters like Joe Rogan as well Elon Musk and RFK Jr. and politicians like Tulsi Gabbard as extremist “trumptards”. When you call those people extremist, you are really showing that you are extreme. Elon Musk explained this with a simple graphic long ago and Althouse reposted it as a warning. Progressives learned nothing.

Just to be a bit contrarian, a Rogan interview might have worked out well for Harris. He and Trump talked about all sorts of things. Imagine him asking Harris about her hobbies and interests, and she talks about cooking. I'm guessing that she could talk about that for 30 minutes in a very real and knowledgeable way. It would have humanized her for many people. Of course there would be plenty of land mines out there too, so who knows?

She was an unpopular candidate plugged in at the end to try and salvage Biden’s unpopular Presidency. She can’t rub two coherent sentences together so they needed Joe to prop her up. So now publishing complies with propping her up for some reason. Any of you lefties want more of her? Didn’t think so…

When it comes to Kamala Harris, I keep thinking of that Leonard Cohen song, "Everybody Knows." Everybody knows she could not have gone on Rogan's show on his terms (or it would've been a disaster). So whatever underling is responsible for fronting that decision is trying to save his consulting career by blaming Rogan. The only truth that matters about Kamala Harris' campaign is that identified by rehajm above she was incoherent and utterly incompetent, and ultimately everybody knew.

Earnest Prole said...

Whoever did the Harris campaign’s calculations was probably correct that she would lose more votes going on Rogan’s podcast than she would gain — that’s just the nature of her electorate. All the bogus negotiation talk is just a smokescreen.

Trump went on Howard Stern too. If he'd gone on Rogan in 2016, he'd likely have been very blunt about many things that sparked TDS later on. He was not a polished or measured politician back then either.

Those who left the Party are more 'progressive' than the Democrats who remained. Those who left kept their principles and could not be bought off with Biden-bribes. The current Democrats are revolutionaries who favor mandatory outcomes, revenge, censorship, anarchy, Jewish genocide, etc.

They are not at all similar to old-school progressivism, which initally sought to bring true science into government and culture (e.g., food sanitation; evolution over creation; intelligence testing for military jobs, etc.). They later ones turned 'progressive' into a meaningless propaganda term. Democrats today resemble old-school Communists. See David Hogg.

Remember that Biden got elected in 2020, by giving a few canned speeches off a telepromter, and attending 2 debates where he got the questions in advance and was helped by the liberal/left moderators. Kamala probably thought she could get elected doing the same thing.

And she almost did. Go look at the results, change a million or so votes in 6 swing states and Kamala is POTUS. The Reason she didn't do it, is easy to decern. She can't talk on TV for 3 hours without giving your true self away. And once Kamala showed that she was far-left and hated white working class men, her polls would've plummetted. She had a lot to hide. But then, so did Biden and HIllary.

Joe Rogan saved the Republic. LOL!

Mike (MJB Wolf) said...

1. No one is surprised at the authors lying about Rogan the same way Kamala's team did.
2. Rogan's reputation is enhanced by calling BS on this book.
3. If he "has the receipts" like he says, call logs whatever, he should sue the authors for trying to damage the JRE by lying about him.
4. What was news to me was the extent of the gaslighting: Kamala's team (with her blessing during the campaign) lied about every single detail of this negotiation. So I was actually surprised at the lengths Rogan was willing to go to in order to accommodate the Joy! Campaign.

The two authors Allen and Parnes also did a book on Hillary called "HRC State Secrets and the Rebith of Hillary Clinton" about how smart she was, and what a "Political master". It was basically a book designed to help her in HRC's run for the Presidency. That they would lie about Rogan, is not unexpected.

I'm sure the publishers' lawyers fixed the wording to avoid being sued by Rogan, and the staffers who lied don't have much money. The authors may be glad to have even adverse publicity for their book if Trump continues to suck up all oxygen.

Bob Boyd said...

You could apply Lefty's basically meaningless rationalization for Harris' failure to anything.
John's mistake was not that he crashed his car into the liquor store, but that he didn't have an effective strategy to counter the effects of the alcohol he'd been drinking all morning.

Harris’s mistake was not that she ran for President, but that she didn’t have an effective strategy to counter Trump.
Okay.

Complete agreement. The past two Democratic candidates have been so lamentable, that the less they were seen the better. It wouldn't work this time for Harris to campaign from her basement. So she (or her campaign) could only avoid anyone who asked a question.

"Shattered" is great, along side Donna Brazile's book "Hacks". The two books combined give you an idea of the Clinton machine that took over the DNC and ran her campaign. What a dysfunctional mess it was.

In the context of current events, Clinton had a group of young guys running her campaign spending based off of data analysis. These guys rubbed everyone the wrong way, and a lot of local Democratic machines chaffed at the "disrespect" (aka no money) the tech guys gave out. There were lots of complaints about the lack of money for "Get Out The Vote" activities (aka payoffs to community organizers). Both "Shattered" and "Hacks" go over this (and other problems) from two different points of view, so I recommend both of them as a pair. They are both light reads and I think around 200 or so pages long.

Peachy said...

Left Bank - did you actually watch the linked Video?
Joe Rogan wanted to interview BOTH. He wanted to release both Kamala and Trump interviews - AT THE SAME TIME.
Of course to you dedicated leftists - that's outside the bounds. Rogan should have groveled AND OBEYED the left's diktats and manipulations - and told Trump to go pound sand. Right?
Democracy = obey the democrat party - and nothing more. Right?

Harris was never ready to be President. Hell...she wasn't ready to play Vice President. But the Democrat Party apparatchiks had already had 3 1/2 years of propping up Joe Biden. All they knew were candidates who could not find their way out of a closet who they would have to somehow present to the nation and the world as capable. They kinda got used to the idea that their candidates weren't capable of answering questions that had not been edited, or cut out entirely. Without control over that, they knew they could not do it. The Harris campaign was never serious about doing Rogan's show. Never.

Trump was not only ready, he could have done another 2 hours of the one he did, but had to fly across the country that very night after the podcast to do a rally in Traverse City, MI.

If you could not tell by the past 2 weeks, one of these people was ready to be President, the other would not be hired to run a local shoe store, let alone the nation and the world.
