"Here’s my view: I obviously disagree with some of Elez’s posts, but I don’t think stupid social media activity should ruin a kid’s life."

"We shouldn’t reward journalists who try to destroy people. Ever. So I say bring him back. If he’s a bad dude or a terrible member of the team, fire him for that."

Tweeted JD Vance.

What did this guy write? NBC News has this:
The Wall Street Journal said it reviewed archived posts from a deleted X account used by [25-year-old Marko] Elez in which he posted messages such as “Just for the record, I was racist before it was cool” and, “You could not pay me to marry outside of my ethnicity... Normalize Indian hate.”

ADDED: Do not refer to Elez as "Big Balls"! Big Balls is Edward Coristine, and he's only 19 years old. So maybe you shouldn't be calling him that. You creeps.

Is he talking about before US Rep. Jasmine Crockett made being racist cool?

It sounds like a joke to me. All the opposite of what would be expected of a racist, hence the joke.

It that's all they've got. Look for a termination lawsuit. If he was racist, you would see it conspicuously in the pattern of postings and comments - Lots of liked humor, forwarded posts, derogatory terms, etc. People on the left have much more upfront racism and misandry. And, unless you are in HR or have hiring and firing authority, or are harassing people at work, mostly this should not matter.

I don't particularly like Indian food. I'd probably not want to marry an Indian woman and end up with home cooked samosas or whatever. If I were younger, I wouldn't object to having sex with a good looking Indian woman, but marriage is out. These are my views on the matter. I realize such views make me unfit for government service, but there they are........Vance is married to an Indian woman and has sort of Indian children. If he can shrug off such comments, why can"t the WSJ reporter.

Cancelling people because they're "racist" or "antisemites" or "insert being protected class" is stupid. You're giving the Left - or various interests groups - a weapon to destroy people they don't like. And most of those are associated with the Right or the Center.

If the Left liked Elon Musk, you never would've heard about this tweet. But the guy is associated with the new Hate Object of the Left - Elon Musk.

And who has the time/money go rummaging through obscure people's social media to find "racism" or "bad think"? Its the left because they own the media and have a large number of NGOs.

Of course, you can be a principled conservadumbo and say "I dont care if the Left gets a pass, and we're only ones who get cancelled, I still think..." I mean you, if you want to lose. Lose!

Bill, Republic of Texas said...

So now it's OK for government executives to rifle through career government employees social media to look for things to use to fire them? That should be a very useful program for Trump and his new tech oligarch buddies.

RCOCEAN II said...

This will only change when people say enough is enough. Will they? I dunno. And another thing, offering a defense buy into the Lefts assumption that if he really was a "racist" he deserved to get cancelled. that's why giving the Left a 40 page memo on why "He's not a racist" never works. They NEVER back off and go "Yeah, sorry. Guess we were wrong". NEVER.

You need to attack the underlying assumption that being "racist" is enough to get you cancelled.

RCOCEAN II said...

The funniest example of how the Left operates occured years ago with Matt Ygelsisis and SCOTUS blog.

Matt didn't like the blogger at "SCOTUS Blog" and called him a racist. The guy said "Im no racist, why blah blah how can you say that" and Matt called him a racist again. Then the guy said "why no one hates racism more than me, why blah blah, Ive marched with civil rights leader X". And Matt just called him a racist again.

Finally, the SCOTUS blogger guy just ran away and stopped defending himself. And Matt had the final word and said "Just as I thought, he's a racist".

I don't like cancel culture. Everyone makes mistakes online, especially if they're young. When it comes to art, the art needs to be judged on the art alone and not the artist's personal life.

I know many people who refuse to watch some really great films because someone involved, high up, in the project was rumored to be a jerk.

Someone actually gave me a really nice box set of all the Harry Potter movies because they disliked J.K.Rowling's opinion on the trans debate. J.K. Rowling is such a small part of that film franchise, it's not even funny. (Just think about all the hours that all those people in the credits put in to make that film.) Plus, J.K. Rowling had already made her money on the sale of that box set, so this gesture was totally pointless.

ABC news was on in the nail salon this morning. Glancing up at the closed captions while I was listening on my phone to joe Rogan interview Bret Weinstein was next level parallel universe. As Joe is ticking off truly bizarre ginormous USAID outlays, following the breadcrumbs to collusion between academe, the media, ngos, and George soros, I’m watching abc’s newsroom focus exclusively on ELON. They have NOTHING to say about the avalanche of evidence of widespread corruption and propaganda that has been going on for a generation. Apparently they’re just going with giving Elon the Trump 1.0 treatment, with investigations, speculations and lawfare. I hope The Folks see through it.

Because the DOGE operation has been sprung on us all of a sudden doesn't mean it's impromptu. The speed with which Trump's operations have taken place suggests that they have been planned for some time. The young men on Musk's team were not just picked up on a street corner, but were searched for and vetted, without a lot of publicity.

Prof. M. Drout said...

This is obviously a stupid, bad-faith argument, just like the whole "What he's doing is illegal!" and "No one elected Elon!" screeching.
The President can appoint anyone he wants to be a "Special Government Employee" for 130 days, and since he is free to ignore anything found in a background check and still choose to appoint the person, yammering about "What about background checks?!?" is a red herring.
That said, you can't work for a defense contractor without passing a background check. Since they previously worked for Space X, they were background-checked.
But that doesn't actually matter.
So please spare us the ridiculous hyperventilating, which sounds a lot like the idiotic "Russian asset!! OMG!!!" garbage from a few years back.

Aggie said...

@Inga sez: "Both Melania and Ivanka promoted USAID...."
That's a 'so what?' answer, there. Nobody is saying that USAID has no useful purpose, or that it does absolutely no productive or useful work. Many people are saying that much of its work is either money laundering or diversion of funds to political projects, supporting an agenda.

Your comment is pure, diversionary what-aboutism. Ain't gonna work.

wildswan said...

I guess I wonder whether "I wouldn't marry outside my race" is the same as "I wouldn't marry outside my ethnicity." Race is biologically fixed; ethnicity is a set of cultural behaviors learned from one's immediate relations and changed over one's lifetime. The one is fixed; the other changes in every generation - isn't that how it is? And, because there are these generational changes, it is quite possible to find someone who shares your "ethnicity", your own beliefs on behaviors and values but who comes from a different race. For example, it used to be the case that an Irishman would have such different behaviors and expectations from those of an Itaiian that it would not seem likely that the two would be happy together whereas now both would be seen as Europeans.

Or, take another example. Would a white Massachusetts Democrat marry a white Republican Trump supporter? or would their "ethnicities" be too different?
Salon said they'd be too different:

"It's a good thing most women don't want to date Trump voters"
https://www.salon.com › 2023 › 11 › 28 › its-a-good-thing-women-wont-date
The Atlantic worried about the issue:
"Should I Break Up With My Trump-Loving Partner?"
https://www.theatlantic.com › culture › archive › 2024 › 10 › dear-james-relationship-political-differences › 680251

NBC news took a firm stand against this form of
miscegenation:
"Opinion | It's perfectly OK to not want to date Trump supporters"
https://www.nbcnews.com › think › opinion › question-keeping-trump-loving-men-night-why-won-t-women-ncna1273594

So, isn't it possible that a young man who grew up with these sorts of opinions emanating from mainstream figures and swirling about him, might say "I wouldn't marry outside my ethnicity" and not mean anything more than a young woman who might say: "I wouldn't date a Trump supporter?"

And when the media (who are being exposed as news-for-hire hacks by this young man and his kind) pile on this young man - what is that all about?

Drout, you're assuming a lot of stuff that I didn't say in my comments. I'm not a leftist, I'm not against Musk. I think shrinking the government is terrific. But I've also had to endure several Fed background checks where I work, and they are not done this quickly. I'd just like to know that these guys have been properly vetted, since they are being given such unlimited access.

pacwest said...

Liilly, you aren't the only one who has been thru background checks and security clearance vetting.

The FBI can go as fast as they are told to go and pile on as many resources as it takes to move quickly, the DOGE guys at Treasury are Treasury employees and completed the full interview process (1 of the 2 had his final interview with none other than Scott Bessent).

They boh only have read access and their systems recommendations must be submitted to the Federal Reserve for action (according to Bessent).

So why dont you just calm down...or go sit in the corner with your pal Inga, for if memory serves you posted you would like to see Trump lose to kamala just to stick it to me and achilles.

Which is your right of course, but dont think comments like that dont reveal something.

Now you go right back to weeping and gnashing your teeth and looking around for your comfort pet.

And while you and Inga continue your Faux Outrage Tour, suck on this one for a bit:
