To all of the Democrats here, I know this will make you feel so much better, so confident in your parties future.
The DNC Leader interrupted the party election to tell members that not enough non-binary candidates have been elected, so they MUST now vote for one. "With the results of the previous four elections, our elected officers are currently two male and two female. In order to be gender balanced, we must elect one male, one female, and one person of any gender."

Grenell Scores Big Win For Trump As Venezuela Releases Hostages, Agrees To Takes Back Migrants

"The government of Venezuela has agreed not only to release six detained Americans, who arrived home Friday evening with Trump envoy Richard Grenell, the Maduro government has will take back tens of thousands of migrants, President Trump said on Saturday."

Gee, I wonder what he said to him?

Rick Grenell is my favorite Trump appointment. So extremely capable no matter what job he tackles. He was my choice for VP but I think he’s doing more good in the position he’s in. Congrats to Grenell and Trump and welcome back to the former hostages.

I was surprised he didn't get an Intelligence or Justice post. I saw him as CIA or FBI Director.

Governor Shapiro has a tough response to PETA's plan to replace Punxsutawney Phil with cake

"The animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has once again set their sights on liberating Punxsutawney Phil from his Groundhog Day duties. But Pennsylvania’s governor seems to disagree.

...

Instead, they suggest that the team at Gobbler’s Knob could go with a different kind of prediction reveal: cutting into a cake.

“In a fun play on viral gender reveal videos, PETA’s tasty treat would be cut to expose one of two colors: blue, signifying six more weeks of winter, or pink, indicating an early spring,” the release reads.

...

In a post on X, Shapiro replied to a New York Post headline about PETA’s suggestion with a simple phrase.

“Come and take it,” Shapiro wrote in the post."

I didn't have our governor invoking μολὼν λαβέ on my Bingo card.

PETA doesn't get the science behind the groundhog.

There are only two genders? That's not the word on prog street.

They're taxes - plain and simple - paid by American consumers and businesses. Trump treats tariffs like a toddler treats a new word, repeating it endlessly without grasping its meaning. But these aren't magical tools that force other countries to pay him money. Now that Trump has said he will demand a 25% tariff on Mexican and Canadian goods, he's sending a 25% tax hike to American families already battling inflation. Full stop - except higher retail will also cost us more farmer giveaways when demand dies on corn, wheat, and soybeans.

Trump's drug-sniffing immigrant buddy Elmo will get chewed on when he has to deal with a 100% tariff on Teslas in Canada. And when Alberta heavy sand crude doesn't sell in the US, refineries in Montana (2), Illinois (2}, and a huge cracking plant in Whiting, IN will shut. At least we won't have to deal with pumping the dirtiest oil on the planet through the Great Plains when the KXL pipeline
is canceled again. But I hear that our Russian friends have sulfur oil to spare.

My understanding -- correct me if I'm wrong -- is that Venus and Saturn are, right now, so close together that they can't be easily distinguished. However, Saturn is moving faster than Venus -- actually, the opposite, Saturn moves around the Sun slower than Venus, but we move almost as fast as Venus, so it appears that Saturn is moving faster -- anyway, they appear as a single light in the sky, at least to my deficient vision. But they are separating, with Saturn moving to the West. It will soon be evident that they are two distinct planets.

BREAKING: Democrats just elected David Hogg to be the Vice Chair of the DNC.

Hogg is touted as their face of masculinity to help them regain the young male voters they lost in the 2024 election.

I HONESTLY CAN'T BELIEVE IT!

I thought that TikTok you linked to was some sort of A.I. creation. The product name "Mid-Day Squares" sounded like something a computer would make up.

But it's real. It's just Canadian. Maybe they name products by brainstorming another way to say "snack" and picking the most sturdily descriptive thing on the list.

I don't think people appreciate that regardless of the tariffs' actual impact on prices, they are 100% giving cover for businesses to raise prices on everything.

It's not just about the price of eggs anymore.

Kakistocracy said...

Why did the Trump push back the effective date of the tariffs to Tuesday? Is the “External Revenue Service” not yet staffed up to collect all that free money?

Leland said...

Trump wants to eliminate taxes by using tariffs. Plenty of stories written about this BEFORE the election. That doesn't sound like someone that doesn't understand the two are related, unless you are gadfly, who hasn't woken up to reality.

As best I can tell, Rebecca Lobach spent the last two years working in the Biden White House, not flying helicopters. All of her social media accounts were scrubbed before her name was released.

Lots of hopes and dreams from Mastriano.

Businesses don't need "cover" to raise prices. They charge what they can get. People pay what they can (or want) to pay. That is how "economics" works.

I suppose that you would feel better about things if Trump issued a decree that companies are forbidden to raise their prices in response to tariffs. Which is how Congress does it (hint--it has never worked).

Last night Saturn and Venus were 11-degrees apart; well separated. They were as close as 2-degrees on Jan 18. Both are currently traveling East with respect to the background stars, but because of the Earth's motion around the sun, the background stars appear to be moving to the West with each passing day.

Narr said...

I spotted Saturn below Venus about a week ago--usually I don't see it but the conditions must have been good. Even my wife saw it after I told her where to look--faint, but visible.

IIRC they were about a finger's breadth apart, maybe a little more.

I suggest anyone with an interest in sky watching get an iPad app called SkySafari Pro. Serious observers swear by it.

Stellarium is a nice app for the desktop.

This is basically what the government in California did with regards to how insurance companies were allowed to price their policies. I think the LA fires have made it pretty clear how well that's working out for them.
