You can talk about whatever you want.

No sunrise picture today. Too cold! But I hope you'll still support the Althouse blog by doing your Amazon shopping going in through the Althouse Amazon link.

Clyde's Top 15 Favorite "New" Songs of 2024 - Part 2 of 5 - Honorable Mentions

Freedy Johnston - "Bad Reputation" - This Perfect World - 1994

Yes, we're still stuck in the 1990s, as four of the five honorable mentions are from that decade. This is another song that was a gift of the algorithm. Amazon decided that it was something that I would like and so it threw it at me repeatedly. Amazon was right. And although this song is thirty years old, I'll always associate it with 2024.

Katie Couric has finally figured out the smartest thing Republicans did to ensure a Trump victory: Bussing illegal aliens to Martha's Vineyard.

You'll remember that, within 24 hours, the people of Martha's Vineyard had the cops arrest every last one of those people and ship them off the island to be stored in a US military prison - or "concentration camp" as they are historically called - on the mainland of Massachusetts.

That's the smart thing they did.

They made liberals live by their own rulebook. In the process, they showed them to be a bunch of insanely hypocritical elite scumbags who don't want illegal ick in their backyards.

Once Republicans did that, and started shipping all the illegals into the sanctuary cities and breaking their budgets, of course then they could live with the consequences of their policies and immediately voters started kicking them all the hell out of office.

More like this will be needed. The Massachusetts governor and Mayor of Boston have promised to commit felonies once Trump's border czar starts arresting illegals in Massachusetts. He's promised to arrest them. We will see if Trump has the stones to do it.

And yes, that's Part 3 of 5

These drones are being operated by the Secret Service. They know if Trump is murdered, there's going to be an American Revolution and they're going to have to look behind them for Luigi every day for the rest of their short lives.

Caution! ManBearPig might put you on the Naughty list for that heresy.

How long will she be laid up? Does she have to be physically in the chamber to vote?

“We will see if Trump has the stones to do it.”
No. Trump no longer has anything to prove to anyone (if he ever did). He belongs to that elite group of human beings who have nothing to prove to anyone. We can all belong to that group but most of us use our precious time on planet earth wondering if we should pluck our chin hairs or not - what will the neighbors think?

President-Mom-Jeans writes, "Pelosi fell and broke her hip. The world is healing."

For shame! Your tone is entirely inappropriate. You should greet that news with proper solemnity, like I do

Not good at her age!

“Pelosi fell and broke her hip.”
She was walking down a marble staircase - probably in her high heels too. Folks avoid all marble staircases. They are so slippery. I helped one elderly relative after hip surgery. With the hospital and rehab facility - about a month. My coworker’s mom (93) just broke her hip, has had the surgery day after Thanksgiving and is still not out of the hospital. Best wishes for my coworker’s mom and Nancy Pelosi as well.

Life's rough all over these days. In fact, I hear that people are dying on the subway in New York, and the ones responsible for it are free to walk the streets.

PA Governor Shapiro is unhappy that Biden granted clemency to a former judge convicted in the “Kids for cash” corruption scandal. How is it that he was not convicted on any state law charges that would not be within the President’s pardon power?

For a lot of elderly people, a broken hip is a death sentence. I've seen it a lot.

I wish her a long, long recovery.

Eva Marie said...

In thru the hip, out thru the hip.

Broken hips mean increased mortality for people her age, despite what I am sure will be world class care and support.

I feel the same sympathy and generosity to Nancy that I would feel toward Al Capone.

So you're saying he ain't got the stones to do it. Got it.

Dixcus said...

Course, you could always just push her. That's a lot easier.

Too cold for s sunrise picture? Now imagine living in a tent in the hills and mountains of Western North Carolina, with a Port-a-Potty some distance away if you need to get up late at night.

Yes, a broken hip is one of my greatest fears. The other is being thrown out of a helicopter at 20,000 feet.

Curious George said...

The smartest thing was their get out the vote effort, led primarily by Turning Point USA (Charlie Kirk's group), canvassing all the swing states identifying Trump (and GOP) voters and following up on election day. This effort allowed better value dealing ONLY with the voters that mattered. I had one stop by in Milwaukee.

Tried to drive to Lincoln tonight. Interstate 80 - in both directions - was at a total standstill. Ice and wrecks. I drove on the grass and got off at Gretna. Worst I have ever seen.

Clyde, I appreciate your musical taste. That has always been a fave of mine. 1994 is when I turned 16 so a great time to drive around and listen to music. Also Mazzy Star “Fade into you” and Grant Lee Buffalo “Fuzzy”.

Congratulations Clyde - you finally nailed it with Bad Reputation. Great song from a great album This Perfect World.

I know, you have to be smiling and exuberant in the initial stages of your downfall, but the Democrats really make me laugh. Beiden pardons massive amounts of pedophiles, Chinese spies, and even judges that sent juveniles to private prisons for cash? He must approve of their character because he signed the paper. His pals want him to pardon more criminals.

The truth is that Beiden offers his constitutional powers to anyone unfiltered by their mendacity, if they come with the cash. I bet Menendez gets pardoned.

Come one, come all to the Big Beiden clearinghouse sale. It's a big going out of business sale of constitutional clemency. Pay up, get out, the Democrat party guarantees satisfaction. Mark Rich (the crime boss) and Clinton are satisfied customers.

So democrats must tweak their messaging to win big in 2026. I can imagine the campaign ads directed against anyone who supported Beiden, and there are many there. Sen Durban, did you support Beiden? Why no not at all, let's play the tape.

I hope that Illinois Jabba the Gov runs again. Illinois may be redeemed.

Beiden and anyone who loved him is radioactive.

I saw a blurry light flitting around the night sky tonight. It was a spaceship, I assume, from the planet XRW14/AAX1277. I could make out the model number but barely. The second X could’ve been a K.

Border sheriff ignores county's new policy that blocks cooperation with ICE immigration enforcement (San Diego County, California)

"The San Diego County sheriff says her office will not change its practices with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after the county’s board of supervisors moved to further restrict that cooperation ahead of the Trump administration taking office next year.

"The sheriff's office will not change its practices based on the board resolution and policy that was passed at today's meeting," Sheriff Kelly Martinez’s office said in a statement. "The board of supervisors does not set policy for the sheriff's office. The sheriff, as an independently elected official, sets the policy for the sheriff's office."

The statement came after a 3-1 vote by the San Diego County Board of Supervisors on a resolution to restrict ICE cooperation with local law enforcement.

The resolution says the county will not provide assistance or cooperation to ICE, "including by giving ICE agents access to individuals or allowing them to use County facilities for investigative interviews or other purposes, expending County time or resources responding to ICE inquiries or communicating with ICE regarding individuals’ incarceration status or release dates, or otherwise participating in any civil immigration enforcement activities."

When ICE is aware of suspected illegal immigrants in local or state custody, it will file a detainer with law enforcement, typically requesting that the agency is notified ahead of the suspected illegal immigrants' release and, in some cases, that they be held until ICE can take custody of them.

ICE says this helps detain illegal immigrants without having to go into communities and gets illegal immigrant offenders off the streets. Sanctuary proponents say that such policies chill cooperation between law enforcement and otherwise law-abiding illegal immigrants.
