"Trump and allies have primed supporters to falsely believe he has no chance of losing."

That's the headline at NPR for a piece by political reporter Stephen Fowler.

What does "primed" even mean? It seems to admit that Trump never said he has "no chance of losing," but he said something that has caused a belief. And then what's the evidence that Trump supporters believe that? No chance of losing — who believes that? And then to ding these people for "falsely" believing this thing Trump never said... well, the "falsely" ought to be appended to this NPR article: NPR political reporter falsely believes Trump somehow caused his supporters to believe he has no chance of losing.

Am I being unfair to Fowler? As Shakespeare put it: "Fair is foul, and foul is fair: Hover through the fog and filthy air."

Okay, let's hover. Fowler writes:

The final days of the campaign have seen a barrage of baseless claims about voting rules, possible election outcomes and Trump’s chances to win from a constellation of his family, friends and faithful associates. Social media site X has been home to a proliferation of false fraud claims about the election, and the site’s owner, billionaire Elon Musk, has used his considerable platform to amplify conspiracy theories.... Trump himself has posted online that “Pennsylvania is cheating” and often dedicates parts of his rambling rallies to accuse his opponents of cheating while bragging about often-overinflated poll numbers....

I'd say it's not so much that Trump supporters believe he has "no chance of losing." It's that they are cranked up into a high state of vigilance, so that if a loss is announced, they will support the challenges and litigation that will follow. I hope that works as a strong deterrence to any cheating, that everything's conducted on the up and up. And I see no reason to disparage people who are creating pressure to handle the voting process accurately and honestly. I don't know why Joe Biden did not use his presidency to bring us together by working to make the voting process as transparent and squeaky clean. He knew half (or at least a third) of the country had doubts. Why didn't he work to dispel those doubts? Did he want all this discord? Was he hiding malfeasance?

We all know the solution: paper ballots, same day voting, photo ID. The refusal to solve this issue is proof of the cheating.

Why didn't he work to dispel those doubts? Did he want all this discord? Was he hiding malfeasance?

a) Because he despises Trump and his supporters, and so wasn't about to give them any sort of grace.
b) Because the activists in his party view voter ID checks and other security measures as evil.
c) Because any attempt to dispel those doubts would have exposed just how mismanaged elections actually are.

The latter is the big one, IMHO: it's not that there's always rampant cheating, but that a lot of local elections offices are run by hacks and incompetents who don't know their own rules, procedures, and have been skimming money for years. You can't clean it up without cleaning out a lot of rot, and no one wants to deal with the fallout of that unless they have to.

Why didn't the Republican Party, the press, the "elites" not demand a "National Conversation" to reform the voting process? (rhetorical question).
You can say that 1/3 of the country is wrong about what appears to be undeniable (that there are very serious problems with the integrity of the voting/election process), but you can't ignore the concerns of that many people--at least not without consequences, of which the principle consequence is massive distrust of the validity of the election results.

No heaps of serision aren't enough for this unnecessary agitprop. This does follow a theme in DNC Media though, because they really want to lay the groundwork for civil unrest no matter who wins. The usual suspects will riot if Trump prevails. Some Fed-infested group (Proud Boys? TBD?) will create a distractionary pseudo-event if Harris wins. It will be their excuse to round up as many "MAGA" as they can, just like they abused J6 to do so.

The Nazis seized power by blaming their opponents for the Reichstag Fire, they threw out freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, and the rights of the accused. This is how the Gestapo was formed, and opposition newspapers were banned.

They also used to send thugs to opposition rallies whose sole purpose was to create an air of violence around their opponents, because Germany was a liberal democracy, and had to be carefully taught how to turn into a fascist totalitarian state. Any similarities between what the Nazis did, and what the Democrats are currently doing is strictly coincidental though. As a "Good American," you must believe that.

The first thing that a government in the process of stealing an election does is accuse the other side of trying to steal the election, it's also helpful to draw in the dupes and rubes to blame the Russians.

We are seeing it right now in Moldova, where the president, who is not even Moldovan, but was born in France and was once the French ambassador to Moldova has put up all kinds of difficulties for certain ethnic groups to vote, for instance sending 10% of the number of ballots required to Moldovans living in Russia, and instead of having 17 polling stations available to them, as in past elections, there were only two. And Transnistians had to actually leave their region, as they were not allowed to vote in their home areas.

All of this to the blaring tune of "Russia is trying to steal the election!!!!" We even heard that from Dr Weevil here, who seems amazingly tuned in to EU propaganda.

Remember in PA, where in a heavily Trump voting precinct, not enough ballots were provided? That happened in 2020. We already know that the election process in PA is hopelessly corrupt. The DoJ has refused to identify judges who rule on issues of Election Day ballot scrutineering who are known to them to have been elected by ballot stuffing.

There is no reason for honest people to be intimidated by the very accusations that people stealing an election make, as part of the playbook for stealing elections. If that is what happens. The first rule of election theft is "First. Lie. Wins."

They have all of that in Europe. They instead cheat by manipulating the candidates. Running straw candidates to split opposition, or they subvert opposition parties. For instance the German right of center party is run by people who will only make coalitions with the left. The way that the people leading these right of center parties took them over is that the press manipulates coverage to ensure that only elite approved candidates get anywhere near power. This has led Germany into a downward economic spiral, which they will not be able to climb out of until this leadership is somehow shaken off by the German people, and there is no easy way for them to do that until the whole thing collapses.

And we have THAT here: how else do we explain Harris?

I would consider a return to paper ballots and same-day voting with ID to be a good start, wouldn't you? Trump has shown that it's possible - though certainly not easy - to overcome the influence of the "ruling elites."

My husband and I have a running argument going about why so many are saying this is "the most important election of our lifetime." I happen to agree with that statement, because this is the first presidential election in which we know, with evidence, how heavy the thumb on the scale of the media (I'm including social media here) has been. If we don't push back strongly against it (thank you again, Musk), then we are sleepy, complacent dupes of (I generally eschew this term, but... without it I don't have a good way to explain McCain, Romney, what was done to Sanders, the elevation of Biden...) the Uniparty.

(My husband thinks the 2026 midterms will be more important, because that's where we permanently lose Congress and become a one-party nation. I don't think he's wrong - but I stand by my belief that this election is currently the most important.)

The only response they have when voter ID is mentioned is that is it Racist!
We all know that the Racist thing is to suggest that BIPOC are too stupid or lazy to go to the trouble to get ID. We all know that they all have ID anyway. We all know that they have yet to show a single person who was eligible to vote but was prevented from voting due to lack of ID.

And that small remaining NPR audience politely accepts their listening-pleasure "medicine", spoonful by spoonful, of boring op-ed pieces. Facts be damned; let Mao's Little Red Book proceed.

Mostly listen to podcasts now, but listened to 30 minutes of NPR last Friday morning, to be told that Trump intends to "fight" election results, which NPR already presumed with show Harris as alleged victor. Given how close polls supposedly are, it seems premature to anticipate Harris as winner. Given that Marc Elias is super-funded and fully-mobilized to full challenge results on state-by-state basis, clearly even national Democratic Party leadership is uncertain electoral victory is assured.

I was puzzled in 2020. Why didn't the D's just audit the votes, show us all they won fair and square. Assauge all our fears, and make Trump and those shouting "Election fraud" look like chumps.

But they didnt. They refused to admit any invalid votes were cast. They didn't one Goddamn inch. They shouted "election denier" and called everyone names and refused to cooperate or go along with any attempt to audit the votes. Look at Democrats in Mariposa County in Arz. They destroyed evidence, stonewalled, obstructed and did everything they could to stop an independent firm from auditing the 2020 votes.

And there's doing it again. The R's have been forced to go to court to get the D's in Pennsyvannia and VA to clean up voter rolls and obey the election laws. The D's WANT foreigners to vote. They WANT election fraud. They WANT voting machines that mysteriously "Switch votes". The D's actually passed a law in Michagan that you can't change a vote after its been counted (tabulated). And so, an illegal immigrant was able to vote in October and his vote stands.

Look for Trump to behead in the swing states this PM. And then a repeat of 2020 to happen. All the D election vote counters will stop counting votes. Because they'll have to figure out how much they need to cheat to win.

And people bringing up the facts started to get banned on Youtube, twitter, and facebook.

If it's a free and fair election, we will do what we've always done: Honor it."

The funny thing is that after Trump won, the Democrats went after him over Hillary Clinton's campaign lies for two years, before they finally admitted that they had nothing. Remember Inga's famous catchphrase? "Nobody knows what Mueller knows!" It turned out that Mueller had leaked everything they had right up front, and it was not even enough to get Inga worked up. Triggered came out of the woodwork in the last eight or nine years as a means to shift the agency of iniquitous deeds from the doer of the deed to someone else thusly: "Sally set fire to the 9th Street McDonalds because she was triggered by Trump's french fries stunt." IOW, Blame Trump for Sally's evil.

By using the word primed, NPR is preparing the absolution for the arson, looting, and vandalism that will follow the defeat of Kamala Harris.

Why is Raskin talking about the election being "stolen with the Department of Justice"? His party controls the Department of Justice. Merrick Garland has to be the most partisan attorney general ever. Was this a slip on Raskin's part, like Biden's "most extensive and inclusive voter fraud organization in the history of American politics”? Are the desperate enough to not care about how corrupt the election looks if they dump in more Atlanta, Detroit, Milwaukee, and Philadelphia ballots than there are residents of those cities? I personally think they are that desperate- they will do it and dare anyone to stop it- and the Biden DoJ will be arrest and imprison anyone who dares challenge it. This is why I am pessimistic.

It's not a new idea. It's not unique to Trump. Your complaint is based on one specific fact: Trump is the first Republican to try and do something about it. Topping it off, he refuses to repeat your phony catechism of "2020 was the fairest most pure election ever!" so it inflames your hatred for him even more.

He's already won (most with GOP help) dozens of court challenges to safeguard this election, including eight today alone (so far). Conversely Marc Elias won a few. I'm laying the marker down now so we can preempt your "he never won a case" bullshit that isn't true about 2020 and won't be true this time. Few make it to trial, which is disappointing but judges are weak creatures generally. However when they do, our side has a pretty good record.

This is why I keep coming back to this blog. The press relentless assault on common sense is enough to cause (me at least) to miss the obvious incongruity of their propaganda. 😶‍🌫️

Thanks.

I don't know why Joe Biden did not use his presidency to bring us together by working to make the voting process as transparent and squeaky clean

Because we've got that, in Florida. Where as a result DeSantis won re-election by 20%

Every place Democrats get power, they use it to make elections less secure and honest. They would not do that if they thought they were favored in honest elections

Soooo much projection from Comrade Drago 🤣

Morning Joe: Once elected, Trump could ban historians from writing books, creating a “dictatorship” like “Italy in the 1920s & 1930s, Germany in the 1930s.”

This is batshit insane. How is Trump going to have time banning all historians from writing books when he's got to fit every woman for a Handmaid's Tale outfit?

^^ What an idiot. Republicans over performed Democrats in early voting for decades. Early voting programs were the crown jewels of RNC, NRSC, NRCC (you can have someone google those for you, Drago.)

Last cycle, stable genius Trump told Republicans not to vote early. The Republicans responded on cue.

Prior to 2020, there were many elections in which Republicans led early voting and lost. In Pennsylvania, it routinely happened given the Collar county Republican political machines that no longer exist. In fact it happened in every presidential election between 1988 and 2016. Republicans lead in Pennsylvania early voting and lost.

On one level, it’s amusing to see Drago displaying a 7th grade understanding of American politics. Doesn’t Drago realize people can read his comments?

Why would Biden want to make the election process honest and transparent? That’s ridiculous.

Which is the side that has been primed to falsely believe things?

There was an attempt at cheating in Pennsylvania, but it was caught and stopped.

Believing that there was no cheating in Pennsylvania, and that Trump was making the whole thing up, is a false belief.

Voting machines down all over deep red Cambria County in PA. Now, instead of ballot issues in Maricopa red precincts, we have ink problems there!

Couldnt be more obvious.

"not even wondering about the skewed polls."

Most of the people here have been relying on the RCP poll averages, which is a very accurate way to read the polls.

You're the one who believes skewed polls, like the ones from the New York Times.

Atlas/Intel had the most accurate poll of the 2020 election and they currently have Trump +1 in the popular vote.

Remember how in 2016, the Democrats in congress tried to challenge the state's election results and Biden kept shutting them down? Democrats don't remember that.

I would be curious what you think projection is, Rich. And then maybe explain how what he wrote could fit that definition. Answer on a postcard.

Trump said yesterday that: "The only way we’re going to lose this election is if the election is rigged." So if he loses, it's because the election was stolen. There is no other way in his mind or that of his supporters that this could possibly happen.

Brandon, like many Democrats, needs to hate somebody. He never wanted to be a uniter. The Moloch speech in '22 was pure him.
