They're shovel-killing the dogs.

"Project 2025 mastermind allegedly told colleagues he killed a dog with a shovel/Revealed: former colleagues claim Kevin Roberts told them he killed a neighbor’s pit bull around 2004" (The Guardian).
“My recollection of his account was that he was discussing in the hallway with various members of the faculty, including me, that a neighbor’s dog had been barking pretty relentlessly and was, you know, keeping the baby and probably the parents awake and that he kind of lost it and took a shovel and killed the dog. End of problem,” said Kenneth Hammond, who was chair of the university’s history department at the time.

Two other people – a professor and her spouse - recall hearing a similar account directly from Roberts at a dinner at his home. Three other professors also said they heard the account at that time from the colleagues who said they had heard it directly from Roberts.

None of them say they heard that the dog was threatening anyone at the time of the shovel-killing. As for Roberts, he says "This is a patently untrue and baseless story backed by zero evidence. In 2004, a neighbor’s chained pit bull attempted to jump a fence into my backyard as I was gardening with my young daughter. Thankfully, the owner arrived in time to restrain the animal before it could get loose and attack us."

It's not surprising to see another dog story hitting the news. Dog stories jump over the fence and gnaw at your heart.

That's awesome. Dog nutter culture is out of control. People bring these shitbeasts into grocery stores and let them sniff and lick food and piss on the floor. And when they chew someone's face off it was because they were provoked. Or not properly trained.

Yes, we know dog nutters rate dogs over humans. Well, back at ya.

I’m sure he had his reasons…

Unless it's a purse dog, how the hell do you kill it with a shovel? Maybe a lab that just wanted smoochies would be open and vulnerable, but then you wouldn't be attacking it. A dog violent enough to warrant defense would not be deterred by your shovel.

This is a ridiculous story. Whoever started it is a cat person.

Oh Look !!! Another Smear. It's almost like there was a production line of Smears, all lined up, ready to be released, each with a half life of at least a week. Release one every other day or so, let them fill up the newsprint as they work their way through. All the way to, let's see, October, November.

Protect our Corporation, colleagues, there's a corporate raider loose upon the land !

Aren't they embarrassed writing this stuff?

Shoveldog.gif is a well-known meme in darker corners of the net (don't look it up). I'm wondering if that wasn't woven into some kind of fanciful tale here.

Ah another Leftist Democrat myth born before our eyes. One guy "recollects" it happened without evidence of course. The actual dude featured in the "recollection" has a direct refutation, which is a more believable version too.

But the Myth will take hold. I've already seen it spreading on Twitter. Leftism cannot survive without lying about its opponents. Lies are oxygen to the Leftist manipulation strategy.

This is another reason they hate Trump with a hot passion: he exaggerates easily with flair and effectiveness, which they see as encroaching n their turf. That's why a whole "fact-checking" industry has evolved to "deal" with Trump. It's almost a certainty this Project 2025 story will not be fact-checked.

Well that writer is shoveling something. If you go down to the stables at the track, you can get a bigger shovel. Make your job easier.

As someone who has actually broken up a fight between a Pitbull and another dog I can assure you that there is no way you are going to kill one armed with only a shovel.

My hunch is this story is designed to push the "Haitians ate my cat" stories out of the public conscience. Note: Haitians have for years killed cats for Voodoo and NOT ate them, but hey that would require actually reporting.

Never. Being a Leftist disables one's embarrassment mechanisms.

Not a bad story, but how do you top the JFK Jr whale head story? Answer: you can't. The whale head story may be the best dead animal political story ever.

The Guardian. That figures. Let me tell you about Brits and dogs. Most Englishmen like their dogs more than their children (they love them both, but the dogs appear to like their owners, so they have that going for them).

And the 2025 Project! It is right up there with the Steele Dossier as a fetish for the Left. They become aroused just thinking about it. Too bad Trump had nothing to do with it.

We are living in amazing times.

Reminds me of the people who insist that the assassination attempt in Butler, PA was "staged". They "know" everything about firearms even though they've only ever seen one on TV and have no clue about how impossible it would be to pull off what they're saying happened. I'm assuming it's the same thing regarding pitbulls and shovels. They've never even seen real ones, but the "know" everything about them.

How is this news? Would it be news if some leftwing think tank wonk killed a dog with a shovel?

I was thinking this must be embarrassing for the journalists and their sources. But of course, they are shameless. It is embarrassing for Kevin Roberts.

Advice for aspiring young conservative academics: if your department chair was a leader of the Kent State SDS and a director of the Chinese Communist-linked Confucius Institute, maybe don't try entertaining him with tales of your puppy-bashing prowess with the shovel.

Even if they weren't so dangerous, pit bulls should be put down for being so ugly. Decades ago, I took an instant visceral dislike to them that hasn't faded. Don't be surprised if I'm killed by one.

Here's something I just read. Trump signed a bill back in 2018 banning the slaughter of cats and dogs for food.

“On 20 December 2018, the federal Dog and Cat Meat Trade Prohibition Act was signed into law as part of the 2018 Farm Bill. It bans slaughtering dogs and cats for human consumption in the United States, with exceptions for Native American rituals.”

I was out running one evening around dusk when a pit came around the back side of a pine tree and was coming for me. I yelled "no" loudly which got the owner's attention and he called the dog off. If the owner hadn't been there I'd have been attacked and that dog was going for my legs. I've never trusted a pit bull. Like that dog, they're sneaky. He wouldn't have attacked head on. He saw me and slipped behind the tree so he could come at me from behind. I'd never leave a child with one. Ever.

Note the "witness", Kenneth Hammond. According to Wikipedia, Hammond was a Students for a Democratic Society leader at Kent State University from 1967 to 1970. This makes me suspicious. Perhaps his revolutionary zeal is undimmed, and he's willing to spend what is left of his superannuated credibility for The Great Cause.

Back in my Baltimore days in the 1990s, my kids had two pet rabbits in a hutch under our back deck. One day a neighbor's Rotter got loose and started wandering, and when he got to our back yard he tried to eat the rabbits through the wire of their hutch. I personally love Rotweilers, my brother has kept them for decades and they're great dogs, usually. Hearing the commotion, I got down there just in time to see one rabbit pick up a piece of firewood and hit that Rotter right on the head with it, as if swinging a mallet. The Rotter stopped, blinked, and then wandered off home. Damndest thing I've ever seen a rabbit do. And yes, that is my story and I've stuck with it this long, so I'm going to keep sticking with it. The rabbit did it.

A Pit. 'Nuff said. However, unless the dog was unable to move, a shovel wouldn't kill it. I have a friend who truly did kill a Pit that was killing another dog. A shovel was insufficient. He had to shoot it.

It's totally possible to kill a big dog with a shovel. There are actually cases in the news of people killing other people with shovels.

Many years ago a nearby rancher's dog ran into the road and bit me and drew a decent amount of blood. This was the second time the dog had come at me. The first time was just a nip and no blood. I told the rancher that the next time I would kill his effing dog, and I started carrying a knife with me. So I can believe that this guy wanted to kill the dog, which is not the same thing as doing so.

I don't know. I've noticed that Haitian animal-eating story being brought up unprompted by a lot of Left-Wing media outlets. Now it is always done so by referring to it as 'debunked' or a similar qualifier, but my sense is that it keeps getting brought up at least in part because the media believe it will drive more people to vote for Harris and against Trump. An allegation like this might be made to remind folks about the Haitian story and hope for a reaction of "Wow, not only do those MAGA people make up horrible stories about Haitians killing animals, but they are killing animals themselves."

There's a blog theme for today. This quote from the Guardian "'I think that probably people were not eager to engage with him over this. It sounded like a pretty crazy thing to do and people didn’t want to get into it at that point,' Hammond said." And this about Matt Walsh: "[And]... the human instinct for avoiding confrontation is exploitable if you’re sufficiently willing to violate the social contract...."
