The group called for a “virtual snap primary” that would give voters a chance to voice their preferences and concerns. Bernie Sanders famously argued that “it is not good enough for somebody to say, I’m a woman; vote for me." Now Black Lives Matter seems to be arguing that it is no longer good enough to say: I am a Black woman; vote for me.
Refreshingly, Harris herself has not relied on this argument.... Coming at a time when Trump has been entrenching counterintuitive gains among Black voters and other minority groups, Democrats’ emphasis on race and identity risks undermining Harris instead of helping her....

It should be noted that Kamala Harris isn't black. She's Indian.
And neither is the leader of Black Lives Matter. He is white.

Democrats have stumbled upon a winning formula. It has been oft-noted that generic-democrat or generic-republican outpolls a real candidate with a record. Exposure breeds contempt. In 2020, covid allowed the democrats to hide their cognitively-impaired candidate in the basement. This year, they trot out a candidate who didn't have to run the primary gauntlet and now only needs to sprint to the finish line.

This line of argument just puzzles me. Her father is black, her mother is from India. Half her genetic makeup is black. I guess your fearless leader is pursuing this line of argument and his followers are buying into it. I think it will bite him in the ass if his goal is to attract African Americans.

Years ago I worked with a Jamaican fellow who explained, on more than one occasion, that he was not Black or African American. He was, he insisted, Jamaican.
He would think, I believe, that Harris should be claiming Indian-Jamaican ancestry.
There's some indie journalist I'd never heard of until I joined X a couple of weeks ago and whose name is now escaping me - a woman, initials LL. She's bruiting about an image of Harris's birth certificate, in which her father's race is identified as "Jamaican."
I am heartily sick of the "she's descended from a slaveholder" thing - if she has African ethnicity, which I think is pretty damn likely, then there's likely a rape back there and I will not blame the victim for it. But - speaking as a person with absolutely no right to make this claim but going on what I hear from some who do have a right - her Black cultural identity seems to me to be a self-created thing.
Apparently I've decided to knuckle under and start capitalizing "Black."
I think we should respect that Harris gets her identity from her father. Her father was a Marxist. Ergo, Kamala is a Marxist. Forget race, that's enough for me to oppose her. ;)

What does she have in common with poor inner city black kids whose great-great-great grandparents were actually impoverished slaves in the US?
If only, after 60 years of Affirmative Action and 10 years of DEI, we could finally reach a point where we only judge people based on the content of their individual character, rather than their skin color.
