Astronomical twilight still starts as early as 3:00. Ends at 23:00.

4 measly hour of observing time.

According to Senator Josh Hawkeye, whistleblowers have told him the Trump rally in Pennsylvania was designated as a “loose security” event with untrained officers from other agencies filling in for USSS personnel and normal procedures not being followed.

Loose security for the Republican candidate for President.

I hope this isn’t true.

Merriam-Webster posted the question "what word/grammar hill would you die on" but took it down because of an influx of people posting an answer about the definition of "woman" (an adult human female).

My answer would be using the word "impact" as a verb, e.g., The November election will impact our country's future as opposed to, The November election will have an impact on our country's future.

I used to enjoy watching the show "Air Disasters" and I wonder what "root cause" they would arrive at if the recognized government of a particular country and set of borders never closed off the air space where fighting was taking place, and air defense was in use? I am thinking that the blame ultimately would fall pretty hard on whoever had the responsibility, and failed to close off the air space.

But I understand that the above thinking is all wrong, and just to ask the question is to be a traitor.

All in Podcast. 188

One of the speakers at the convention was David Sacks. At ~37 minutes he talks about prep for his speech at the convention.

I believe 3 of the people on this podcast voted for Biden in 2020. I know at least 2 did.

Trump gets 80 million legitimate votes minimum. I would put the over under at 90 million.

I am just spit balling here, but one reason that the Dems might want to lay off on the election theft machinery if Trump is well ahead is that everyone is paying a lot closer attention this time. If there is "proof" in 2024 of the sort of shenanigans that seem pretty obviously to have been going on in 2020, that would seem to validate the "unproven" claims of 2020.

If the Dems know they are going to lose, they may want to save their ammo. "See, Trump won. No fraud. You people are delusional." Gear up for 2028.

But that is the nice way of thinking about it. The nasty way is that they shoot Trump, start a civil war, crack down and impose martial law. Or just steal the election anyway and say "what are you gonna do about it?"

Now that I have thought it through, I think we get the nasty way. The leopard doesn't change it's spots.

Whelp.... made it home finally. We got to the airport at 05:20. Blue screens everywhere; check-in and bags all by hand, although the bag tags were printing out. Six hours later, we were the fourth plane to board today, for this carrier. A few of the carriers, JetBlue, Spirit, Air Alaska, Delta, didn't seem to be as badly affected. We were the fourth plane out for our carrier, and as we boarded, the Wizard of Oz announcements were starting to come out, in the jam-packed terminal, flights cancelled 'Come Back Tomorrow !'. The very first one of these was for Orlando, land of Disney. Hoo boy, a lot of frazzled people.

We landed late too, and sat on the plane for a half hour as the lottery was held for an available gate. Houston was even worse inside the terminal, now full into the Day of Doom, chockablock with sweaty, unhappy people dealing with their fate of late, later, and Not Today. And then our bags came and we were free of The Pit !

Home about 5 hours late. I feel as if we have escaped an almost certain terrible travel experience, by the wheel-of-fortune grace of the travel gods. I made it a point to thank each and every service person that helped us along the way, profusely, telling them how grateful we were. A lot of cash tips. It must be a gawdawful job on days like today.

By their own accounts, women are easily influenced. They are also hopelessly weak, hopelessly foolish, and hopelessly unable to resist the predations of those wicked creatures, men, who keep outsmarting them. Recognizing this situation, lawyers have devised a strategy, known as the Svengali defense (after the lead male character in Maurier’s 1895 novel, Trilby, intended to get accused females off the hook by shifting the blame to the men around them.) How such miserable creatures can demand “equality” is beyond me.

Such says van Creveld. I think women are smart but vulnerable to fancy. Women are best when men are supervising them. Like jfk and Jackie. JFK can be rapy, and Jackie can find the rich Greeks. Hi ho ho.

So far on “X” I’ve seen two separate videos of people offering to do what the SS failed to do - protect Donald J. Trump. One was a guy from “the hood” and the other a military veteran. Both pleading to let DJT know they and their people are ready and willing to be his private security. Comments were made that it would not be possible to work in conjunction with the SS. It was then suggested that people roam outer perimeters, note locations of available rocks or other projectiles, etc., to use as distractions. Put American ingenuity to work. Whoever is trying to stop Trump, isn’t going to quit.

My understanding is that he only has Secret Service security because he is a former President (like Obama, bush, etc). Most candidates don't get security until they are legally nominated.

Meanwhile - and perhaps this is old news, but I just read that Doctor Jill is heading up the US Delegation to the Olympics. What the F*ck??? I realize that Joe isn't up to this, but he is SICK (after all Covid KILLS) and a devoted wife would be home taking care of her beloved husband. So-called "beloved husband." So once again she gets the perks of Air Force One, 5 Star lodgings, etc. etc.

Oh yeah, she's also holding a fundraiser in Paris for the "Biden" Victory Fund. The "BIDEN" Victory Fund. Apparently this is different from Biden/Harris??

More about Kathryn51's comment:

First lady Dr. Jill Biden to host fundraiser in Paris amid campaign chaos

Excerpt:

"First lady Dr. Jill Biden will host a fundraiser while she’s in Paris leading the US delegation to the Olympic Games opening ceremony in Paris later this month, the Biden-Harris campaign said.

The event will be hosted by former US Ambassador to the EU Tony Gardner, Belinda de Gaudemar, and Lorna Johnson. Tickets range from $500-$25,000. As only Americans can donate to US campaigns, they will have to show a copy of their passport photo page to ensure compliance with federal election law, the campaign said.

The fundraiser, first reported by Politico, comes at a time of uncertainty for Biden’s campaign – during which donations have been drying up. Her attendance comes at a pivotal moment for her husband’s candidacy, as a growing number of Democrats have called on the president to step aside. The first lady remains the president’s closest adviser and fiercest protector, wielding influence in the White House and campaign. She has been an active surrogate on the campaign trail, criss-crossing the country on his behalf as she works to bolster his support with key coalitions.
"

This part is most suspect to me: "Tickets range from $500-$25,000. As only Americans can donate to US campaigns, they will have to show a copy of their passport photo page to ensure compliance with federal election law, the campaign said."

Sure, the attendees show their passports. Will they use their own money or will they be surrogates for foreign donees?

Some of us remember when the Obama campaign was fined by the FEC in 2008 for violating rules for reporting donations, and when they switched off the country code on the campaign website in 2012 for donations by credit cards and gift cards.

Obama 2008 campaign fined $375,000

Obama campaign accepted foreign Web donation — and may be hiding more

"We have very powerful sanctions that are available because of the important role of the dollar in international transactions," Yellen told U.S. lawmakers on the House financial services committee this week.

"The more we have used sanctions, the more countries look for ways to engage in financial transactions that don't involve the dollar."
- Janet Yellen testifies to Congress.

Basically we have gutted the dollar over a border dispute on the other side of the word, a dispute between slavs who are dealing with a blood feud, at least it seems to be a blood feud from the Ukrainian side. None of it is our business, and here at home our own border is being systematically erased.

If you ask me why I think that the perfidious foreign policy of the United States toward, not just Russia, but Europe, which has been economically poleaxed by this war too, and we are picking a fight with China right now, why this history is more important to me that sorting through accusations against Russia by the Ukrainians and by our own security state, well, Russia hasn't done anything to us, and whatever they are doing, they are not doing it in my name, nor are they asking me for money, weapons to do it. I don't care what happens in the former Soviet Union, when our own government is intent on destroying, excuse me "fundamentally transforming" the United States from a system that has worked reasonably well for 200+ years to some new and untried concept cooked up in Davos.

The shootdown of that airliner is a case in point of the lies they tell us. Ukraine didn't block off airspace over a combat zone where aircraft were in use, and anti aircraft systems were in use. End of fucking story. Why we are supposed to believe that this screwup by Ukraine makes Russia "uniquely evil" is beyond my comprehension.

They ask us to believe six impossible things before breakfast. I am just sick of it.

There has to be some kind of glitch in the matrix happening right now, where in 2024 the Democrats are trying to scheme their way around law and procedure to engineer a particular result when this is what they've continually accused Republicans of trying to do to alter the results of the 2020 election.

Although they did sort of manipulate things in 2020 to get Biden on the ticket in the first place when they moved the SC primary up to give Biden a win and make his eventual nomination inevitable.

I guess it's not really karma, it's more blowback? Maybe from what they did as far back as 2016.

Jamie said...

One fake assassination accusation that I haven't heard is that when Trump heard gunshots he reached up and cut his ear with his thumbnail or a hidden "foreign object".

My husband and I have been having an ongoing theological argument related to this. He hates to hear people say that God intervened to save Trump (I'm not crazy about it either, even though I believe it's true, just as I believe God intervenes in all our lives all the time for God's own purposes) because he thinks the implication is that God didn't give a sh*t about Compertore. I counter that we don't and can't know what purpose Compertore's death could serve - where were we when God laid the foundations of the earth and all that.

But I did offer him one example of a possible good that could come from the death of this innocent man: it makes it (or should make it) utterly impossible for Democrats to believe that the assassination attempt was staged by Trump and his team.

I know there are sick people who believe Trump would have sanctioned something so heinous. But I'm talking about ordinary Democrats.

Rich said...

Fortunately for Democrats, Trump's acceptance speech was terrible and did nothing to boost his prospects in November. If anything, it hurt them as his low-energy, rambling, over-long speech may lead to more voters questioning his age and whether they want four more years of an eighty-year-old president.

Two-thirds of Democratic voters say Biden should drop out and Democratic leaders and donors need to continue to ramp up pressure on Biden to do so this weekend at the latest and release his delegates without an endorsement. That would allow for a mini-race between Kamala Harris and a couple other Democratic governors, with a couple debates in the lead up to the Democratic convention. That will likely spur a lot of energy and enthusiasm for a younger, new candidate.

Democrats should also take advantage of those missing from the GOP convention- including all of Trump's former cabinet members- none of which showed up or have endorsed Trump. Encouraging them to show up at the Democratic convention with tales of Trump's first term would be very helpful in preventing a second one.
