"I was doing great, I was sort of like a hot guy. I was hot as a pistol. I think I’m hotter than I am now and I became president."

"I asked somebody, was I hotter before or hotter now. I don’t know… Who the hell knows? Who the hell cares? You have to always keep moving forward. And when it’s your time you’ve got to know it’s your time. And I said to myself in terms of politics, ‘You know what: we did so well in number one and we did even better in number two… we’ve got to do it again. I’m not doing it for myself, I’m doing it to make America great again...."

Said Donald Trump, quoted in "Trump brazenly asks Bronx crowd if he was 'hotter' before or after becoming president."

That's in the Independent, which says "He is seemingly attempting to make inroads with ethnic minority voters, hoping it can bolster his support in traditionally Democratic strongholds and swing states."

Seemingly! The polls show that he has made inroads with ethnic minority voters, and he's keeping up the pressure, what with this rallying in the South Bronx. As he said, you have to perceive your hotness and move forward into greater and greater hotness.

I watched most of the Bronx speech, and I thought he seemed especially happy to be there. New York is his town, and — telling stories about building in the city — he conveyed real love for the place. He wanted the people of his favorite city to know he cares and he can rebuild things for them — quickly — like he rebuilt the Wollman skating rink.

How threatened do Democrats feel? I'd like to know. How dare he come for their safe safe safe state of New York? He dares. He's hot. He senses his own hotness and goes for it. Who else would do that? No one.

ADDED: Are you having trouble understanding "I think I’m hotter than I am now"? Listening live, you probably wouldn't be confused. He just switched to speaking about the past in the present test. He means, at the time, back then, he thought I'm really hot. And the hotness, as he subjectively thought about it, was hotter than the hotness he has "now." And by "now," he means the entire political phase of his life, including the time, quite a few years ago, when he actually was President. It's a pretty long "now." But he had his building mogul phase, he's TV star phase, and his political phase. He was damned big — AKA "hot" — in all 3.

ALSO: Sorry for leaving out the usual hedging when I wrote: "He wanted the people of his favorite city to know he cares and he can rebuild...." Normally, I would write "He seems to have wanted the people of his favorite city to believe he cares and he can rebuild...." I don't know what's really in his head, but it just seemed irritatingly weaselly to make a thing out of that in the original post. But I did nevertheless feel I needed to pay tribute to truth in this addendum. Carry on!

I got the same feeling from the parts of his rally that I watched: He loved speaking to New Yorkers in New York, about New York. He IS New York. Everyone knows that. New York is where he is from, the place where he built his empire. It is his roots, his great love. Democrats may have made a mistake keeping him shackled there. He seems to be gaining more love there now than he did 4 years ago.

Fascinating to see this rally there…. A few pundits theorized that Merchan held off closing arguments and jury deliberation in the hush money trial so that the jury members could “marinate” in NYC in the meantime, where everyone hates Trump. Could that have been a colossal mistake by Merchan?

One person who was interviewed at the rally, said he has a lot of respect for Trump to show up in the “hood hood”…. No president has ever done that before…. Trump is hot hot in the hood hood, it appears.

From what I saw the ethnic make-up of the crowd was not reflective of the neighborhood where the rally took place. That does not matter, though. The interviews were all with non-whites and the headline is that Trump had a successful rally in the South Bronx.

He's made unprecedented inroads as a Republican in Black and Hispanic populations in particular. And what I find particularly fascinating is that his building inroads in a place like the Bronx DOES increase his support in actual battleground states among Black and Hispanic populations as well. It doesn't stay in one community.

He's making the democrats scramble and divert resources to areas they did not plan on - which weakens them.

It leaves him open to dishonest attacks, but its been going on for 8 years now, and most people understand the liberal Left and GOPe will lie about him and attack NO MATTER WHAT. So, they tune out the fake outrage "Trump said what?!"

Trump will lose NY but he likes campaigning there, and its May, so it wont hurt him. I worry he will waste time and money going after the black/Hispanic vote which he will never get, and alienate and lose college/white working class voters - which is where the key voters are. Blacks make up 12 percent of the electorate and if he gets 20 percent instead of 10 percent of the black vote, thats still only a gain of 1.2 percent.

The standard Democrat approach for the black and Hispanic communities has been to treat ‘em like crap for 3 1/2 years and then appeal to solidarity with a handful of designated race-baiters like Jim Clyburn and Al Sharpton. But in 2023-2024 blacks and Hispanic were treated even worse than usual as Governor Abbott (and to a lesser extent DeSantis) transshipped border crossers to big cities, causing Democrat mayors in turn to take from the black community to bestow unbelievable largess on the immigrants. Also, the Democrats made a serious miscalculation assuming that appeals to solidarity would cause Hispanic voters to embrace the border crossers. Instead, the Democrats are driving Hispanic voters towards Trump.

The problem for the GOP is that these minorities are Trump voters, but not necessarily Republican voters. There’s a lot of work to do to turn them into Republican voters.

This is a once in a generation or two opportunity to fundamentally realign the parties in favor of the GOP with a broad based, diverse and growing working poor/working class/middle class base of voters and still with we have GOPe-ers doing everything in their power to throw it all away.

Trump can’t win with only the white nationalists, so he’s trolling for votes. He has no real answers for real people and doesn’t care, either. He wants four more years in the White House watching coverage of himself on the news and avoiding jail.

The rally was capped at 3,500, which is a tiny crowd. It is estimated perhaps 10,000 would have attended if they had expanded capacity. This is in a city with over 8 million people. NYC is heavily Democratic, but Republicans are still going to get more votes in NYC alone than they will get in the entire state of Wyoming. It's not just Trump.

Horse shit. It will do much to fix crime, stagnant wages, high rents and home prices, and overwhelmed hospitals and other civic institutions, both in the Bronx and all over the country. It is perhaps the easiest and least controversial way to improve America's quality of life. Thumping majorities want it. The only reason the borders stay open is because the Democrats are the party of abortion, buggery, and childless careerist purple-haired wine-aunt cat ladies, doomed to go extinct in two generations if they don't import a new electorate.

Perhaps we should get some actual quotes instead of Rich's sad made up lies.

From NYC NBC Channel 4 News from back in April:

NBC Reporter: "Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee for president in 2024, said he is hoping to hold a rally at Madison Square Garden."

Trump: "We're going to be doing a rally at Madison Square Garden, we believe, we think we're signing Madison Square Garden to do. We're going to have a big rally honoring the police, and honoring the firemen, and everybody. Honoring a lot of people, including teachers by the way. We'll be honoring the people that make New York work,"

More NBC Reporter: "Trump also said he will be holding a number of large rallies, including one in the Bronx."

Thanks for playing Rich! Pick up your parting gift as you exit the stage. The gift is a series of graphic pornographic books dems/LLR's like making available to very young school children, just as LLR-democratical Chuck and David French have strongly defended.

And everyone I know in the region who would definitely want to see Trump have just as definitely decided that travel into NYC is dangerous and unpleasant because of Democrat-fomented crime. And these are people who have been going into the city for for decades. Plus, they have jobs.

The park speech was pretty smart. Good setting, home turf, and a turnout Biden couldn't rival, even in blood-blue NYC. It played well on the media, and that's the other point.

Yeah, it's a screenshot from ABC News, but it "appears" real.

It also "appears" to have been taken when Trump was on-stage.

NO WAY that's 20,000+ people. even 3,500 seems high.

This seems a golden opportunity for Biden to hold his own rally in the very same park in the Bronx and show that he can draw thousands and thousands of supporters more than Trump did. Joe could tout all the ways he has built the Bronx back better.

Good question. Maybe it was taken during the rally and shown that night, displaying the later broadcast time. Trump certainly wasn't there at 11 AM.

Here's a video of the event itself. If you look closely as the camera pans, you can see Secret Service guys in position at the same locations shown in the overhead shot. Taken at ground level, it's not much help in determining overall crowd size, but the depth of the attendees along that fence behind the podium is consistent with the overhead view.

Hiring actors who answered a casting call for a $50 gig dubbed, “not a traditional ‘background job,’” was the only way Donald Trump could draw a crowd when he announced his candidacy for president in 2015.

“Wow. Woah. That is some group of people. Thousands!” he exclaimed of the two dozen who cheered on cue in the lobby of Trump Tower at the time.

Trumpworld is once again splintering from reality. This time, the diversion also relates to counting—specifically, how many people attended Donald Trump’s rally in the Bronx on Thursday.

Trump, who has long obsessed over the size of crowds at his events, shared an article from Right Side Broadcasting Network to his Truth Social account that quoted the Trump campaign as saying 25,000 people attended the “electrifying” event.

But aerial footage of the event, and The Daily Beast’s reporter on the ground, told a different story. ABC7’s coverage of the event showed a much smaller crowd located in an amphitheater at Crotona Park. The Daily Beast had a reporter in attendance, who estimated that about 1,000 people were there.
