Here's what she did.

Jordan Peterson on a really good podcast with Tom Bilyeu.

In the 1:20:00 time frame they discuss Jordan Peterson's ~$80,000 a month bill to fight the tyrannical shitheads in the regime and what "normal" people who couldn't afford that can do.

He has similar advice when it comes to fighting this: "Substitute adventure for security."

This entire video obviously goes over a lot but it mostly revolves around concepts of God, Hell and how to rationalize spirituality.

I seem to recall that Rowling began writing the Harry Potter books for her son when he was a child the same age as Harry in the first book. She has done an absolutely outstanding job of keeping that young person out of the public eye. I wonder what his opinion is of his mom's actions on this point.

Me, for what it's worth, which is nothing - 100% support.

They won't target Rowling individually- they will reserve enforcement of the law on those without the means to fund a defense. The proper response, and one likely to be effective, is a massive display of civil disobedience from 10,000+ people in Scotland directly- 100,000+ would be even better. However, it is likely that nothing will be done to fight this- Scotland was "colonized by wankers" and it takes more than one non-wanker to fight this sort of evil.

CJinPA said...

I fear this is something Rowling can get away with but the average person cannot.

It would require a coordinated defiance on a massive scale to really leave the law neutered. Which is possible.

Rowling created what is likely the most fitting villain of our age, the ruthless bureaucrat Professor Umbridge. She wrote a set of wildly popular books that have a sub-theme of resisting bureaucratic evils and the pernicious way deeper evil corrupts.

Her chaotic good heroes are willing to bear punishment and hurt for what is right.

She's doing what she wrote so much about. No wonder she is able to maneuver so well. Also more money than the government likely helps.

Watch out for troll bogies, Ms Rowling!

Scotland will arrest JK Rowling and jail her. But what will be the consequences? It will show that Dolores Jane Umbridge is in power in Scotland. (See Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. When Harry Potter tried to warn about the return of Voldemort, Umbridge, who has been installed at Hogwarts by the Ministry of Truth, declared Harry a liar. She required him to write "I will not tell lies" with a magic pen. As he writes those words on paper, they are written on to the back of his hand in thin letters that cut Harry's skin, as if a scalpel was writing.)
It isn't just the money Rowling has and the lawyers she can afford. It is the millions and millions of people who will understand her situation despite whatever bafflegab Scotland puts out. Essentially, she is opposing the Ministry of Truth and Dolores Jane Umbridge.

@planetgeo: No, seriously, how did this "transpretender" virus sweep through the highest levels of government throughout so many Western countries?

I think several things came together, at minimum:

- Two generations of Hollywood's indulgent non-religion and hedonism led to a cultural moral vacuum (1960s to 1990s), and transgenderism was there as a fresh "worthy cause."

- After the 1960s Civil Rights movement there was the 1970s Women's Rights and 1970s-1980s Gay Rights movements. The left kept pushing for more and more rights until they reached the reducto ad absudum of pedophile rights and passive-aggressive bully rights (bio men in women's sports). But...these were "the greatest moral needs of our time."

- The left NEVER knows when to stop and declare victory. They see a good outcome as the enemy of a utopian dream. Equal treatment --> guaranteed equal outcomes. This has been proven wrong every time it's tried, but utopians and zealots are going to dream big and will die trying.

- Donald Trump. An awful lot of 2017-present politics followed from "if Trump is for it, I'm against it." Jordan Peterson got sucked into this vortex because he fought back hard against Canada's gender and compelled speech laws in late 2016 as Trump came to the fore. So, there was no moderation or proportionality. "You are with me or against me."

- Medical industry corruption. Insurance started to cover transgender surgery circa Obamacare 15 years ago, and there are plenty of greedy doctors ready to push costly treatment. They have been caught doing this. Wealthy groups tend to bribe politicians to facilitate becoming more wealthy.

Those same Western countries had dominant traditional Christian values 50 years ago, with Christian morality filling the universal drive for some type of right-vs.-wrong rules. Maybe the old ways were bad, but the dead-ender moral rules of today are obviously dead ends. So, children are starving and the ice caps are melting and pollution is rampant...but let's spend $100K cutting off the genitals of one person, creating fake ones, and supporting the resulting mule for the next 50 years (unless they commit suicide, which is likely after said surgery).

Now it's a different set of empires, and instead of granting infrastructure to the masses, parks and libraries, instead of endowing universities, today's philanthropic humanitarians are using their wealth to ransom basic human rights - Musk and Rowling so far, who knows who else will step up? Breaking news from the BBC:

Social media comments made by JK Rowling challenging Scotland's new hate crime law are not being treated as criminal, Police Scotland has said.

The Harry Potter author described several transgender women as men, including convicted prisoners, trans activists and other public figures.

The new law creates a new crime of "stirring up hatred" relating to protected characteristics.

The force said complaints had been received but no action would be taken.

The law, which came into effect on Monday, makes it a criminal offence to make derogatory comments based disability, religion, sexual orientation, transgender identity or being intersex.

Transgendered people, despite their best efforts and those of President Biden, are easy to forget about. Has the life of anyone within the reading of this post been personally affected by a transgendered person?....I live in NYC and have known tons of gays, but I've yet to meet any transgendered people. Perhaps there's one who's a receptionist at my gym, but maybe that person is just androgynous.....Once, years ago, I did see two trannies, as they were then called, get into a fight on the #6 train. They were both extremely muscular and didn't behave like ladies. Lots of body slamming. The fight was spectacular and made a lasing impression.....I haven't given much thought to vegans either. Some exceptions, but mostly they're pretty discreet about their dietary preferences....Sometimes I think about furries. I wonder how one develops such a sexual preference. The good thing about furries, though, is that they don't demand government subsidies for their outfits or demand criminal penalties for people who look at them sideways.

From the BBC:

The new law creates a new crime of "stirring up hatred" relating to age, disability, religion, sexual orientation, transgender identity or being intersex.

A person commits an offence if they communicate material, or behave in a manner, "that a reasonable person would consider to be threatening or abusive," with the intention of stirring up hatred based on the protected characteristics.

Stirring up hatred based on race, colour, nationality or ethnicity was already illegal in Great Britain under the Public Order Act 1986 but, in an attempt to streamline the criminal law in Scotland, that too is now part of the Hate Crime Act.

The bar for this offence is lower than for the other protected characteristics, as it also includes "insulting" behaviour, and as the prosecution need only prove that stirring up hatred was "likely" rather than "intended".

Basically, under UK law if you "insult" or "abuse" someone based on race or religion in the UK you can go to jail. Intent is irrelevant. Scotland just expanded it to cover sexual minorities. Which JK is upset about.

Candance Owens attacked a Sex Store Rabbi calling him "Unholy" after being trashed by the man for 2 years. In the UK, Owens could go to jail. Conversely, the Rabbi could go to jail for insulting a black woman. In the USA, no one goes to Jail. YET.

Paddy O said...

"Maybe the old ways were bad, but the dead-ender moral rules of today are obviously dead ends."

The old ways weren't bad. What was bad was the powers dismissed and overlooked severe transgressions. In the name of protecting priests and pastors far far too much sexual and other abuse was ignored. That kind of abuse wasn't unique to religious ones, bit region loses its particular moral voice when it chooses the powerful over its own stated ethics. So people lose trust, look elsewhere and those abused tend to repeat the cycle rather than finding freedom from it.

Here is something that a lot of people do not get about free speech. People should be allowed to speak their minds so that we all know where they stand. It's just as important to know who agrees with your views as knowing who disagrees with your views.

For example: If your bosses at work didn't feel that you were performing the way they wanted, would you prefer it if they talked to you about that or would you rather they never mentioned that but kept passing you up for promotion? At my last job, my bosses kept constantly telling me what a great job I was doing but then they passed me up for promotions five times in the last five years. (Which is one of the reasons why they're my ex-bosses.)

I will always prefer to know who I'm dealing with. (Even if it hurts my feelings.)

This isn't a victory. This is a feint, like playing possum. I hope JK Rowling continues her public resistance to the new authoritarian law. I hope that lots of others continue as well. I also hope that she can muster up the strength of will to support others if they get targeted with prosecution, especially if those people's resistance is viewed as vulgar, mean, or even hateful. The natural social bargain many would be tempted to take is that the law is only used when people "go too far," or "are beyond the pale." That is no victory or even successful defense of free-speech, though it may feel like one to many. Authoritarians love rules that have ambiguities of when they are enforced and when they aren't. Authoritarians love the idea of being able to avoid prosecuting their allies and cronies when they don't want to yet retraining the ability to prosecute their enemies when they, "go too far." JK Rowling is a woman of the Left, and a big and too common problem for folks on the left is that it is hard for them to stick to their principles when doing so means they have to be on the same side of people who are hateful or even mean. I hope she can overcome this weakness should the need arise.

Jamie said...

Has the life of anyone within the reading of this post been personally affected by a transgendered person?

Has my life been affected? It depends on what you mean. Friends of mine, about eight years ago, revealed that the child they had known as their daughter - and whom I'd known since she was four - was actually their son. This kid, 14 at that point, immediately socially transitioned; my friends didn't share whether they'd taken any more action toward their child's transition than that. As it happens, two or three other girls in this kid's class - not school - transitioned at the same time.

So, first effect on my life: whenever socializing with these friends, I have had to choose whether to go along with the idea that this transition is real and not an occasion of the rapid onset gender dysphoria social contagion about which so much has been written in the past few years - or turn my back on a nearly twenty-year relationship.

We moved not long after the transition began, but I maintain ties with that place and many people there, including this family. I've seen their child a few times in the intervening years; the kid, now in early 20s, is still going by the transitional name, but at least upon my last encounter, was presenting pretty much as a lesbian - what might be called a "butch" but nevertheless woman's hairstyle, women's jeans (this means little - at the earliest, this kid began transitioning after having gone through a good bit of female puberty, so those jeans may be the only kind that would fit), a T-shirt, a jacket. This doesn't say a ton; it's not as if there is a lot of difference between the clothing of a young man and that of a young woman who never did wear "body-conscious" clothes. But it certainly wasn't any obvious effort to appear stereotypically male.

My friends say that he is happier now than before, but also that he's doing a degree that one might consider typical of a very woke young person, and I would even say "young woman" based on observable gendered patterns of academic preference - I'm not going to name it, or the university, because these people deserve their privacy. But I note that this kid did not display any sign of gender dysphoria in young childhood. Eccentricity, yes, to my untrained eye - I am not a psychologist - hewing closely to the suite of non-gender-related issues described in the literature on ROGD.

So, second effect on my life: should I encounter this young person again, no matter what he looks like, I'll have to remember to refer to him by a name and (to the extent that it would come up in face-to-face conversation) pronouns he didn't have when I had daily or weekly contact, no matter my misgivings about this transition or my reluctance to participate in what I can't help but consider probably a social contagion.

So. No, my daily life isn't affected. But I have periodically had to - or chosen to - live out a social lie quite a bit beyond "Does this make me look fat?" or "Isn't my new boyfriend great?" And it's not entirely because of friendship; it was also to avoid being immediately dropped like a rock from a quite progressive circle of friends who are lovely people as long as I steer clear of certain topics, to whom I've never come out as a conservative. My decision, I know.

Readers should also listen to Yousaf angrily pontificate in Scottish parliament, claiming Scotland is "too white", that Scottish government officials are "too white", and that radical reform is absolutely necessary to make him feel more comfortable in Scotland. She’s also said that if anyone “small” gets arrested for speech, she will say the exact same thing publicly and dare the police to arrest her too. Shes really trying to protect others as much as she can.

I love her for this.

We all know that this will do nothing for the people who are arrested or the tyrants. The tyrants clearly don't care about hypocrisy or being outed as hypocrites. The tyrants get just as many jollies off attacking the small people as they do off of attacking those with agency.

In the end it will come down to violence because that is the only thing that will stop these people. They have proven that they will use violence to impose tyranny. Words will not stop them.

When the fighting starts we will be called many things by the tyrants all along the vein of domestic terrorists.

I would love to be surprised and have all of these people show support for us then too.

Do you know if they steer clear of certain topics in order to keep you from dropping them like a rock?

Honestly, I don't know anyone who has a problem with the LGBs.

It's the Ts that are met with bewilderment, disgust, and annoyance.

Nobody is born in the wrong body. Nobody was born with the necessity to medically change their sex.

It is mass hysteria and a cult.

The LGBs should be cutting the Ts loose ASAP as they are destroying the brand.

Is it?

I doubt it. That side of the debate tends to use the words "terror," "fear," "harm," and "violence" in places where the rest of us would say "rage," "anger," "lack of control of the discourse," and "emotional affront on the basis of others' not parroting my views."

If someone born male wants to wear a dress, or someone born female wants to wear pants, fine.

But if the guy wants to join the women's swimming team, or use the girl's locker room, or the guy wearing the dress wants to be regarded as the "first woman ___ "in some Cabinet Office, a lot of straight people don't think they signed on for that.

Maybe the advocates for T rights ought to try to persuade the 98% of their fellow citizens who AREN'T T, instead of jailing them.

Yeah, and if you die tommorrow it will have zero effect on my life. In fact, entire countries could sink into the ocean and it would have zero effect on my life.

If we all ran around only caring about things that had a massive effect on our life, society would collapse. Of course, large numbers of people are only interested in their own little world. And that's OK, just don't vote or comment on public affairs.

progressives are like sharks.. they HAVE TO progress; or they'll die.
Once the sodomy laws were cast away..
Then it was Same Sex marriage; Once DOMA was cast away..
THEN it was transism..

The SCARY question is: WHAT'S NEXT?
will it be Incest? or Minor Attracted Persons? (pretty sure these will be a 1,2 punch; Not together)
WHEN will beasties progress up to the front? AND THEN WHAT?

Necrophilia.

I have heard that Rowling has asked that anyone (males included? Dunno) criminally charged under this act forward the offending statement to her, which she will then republish and demand that Scottish authorities charge and try her with the same crime. If true, I am impressed by the strength of her convictions.

As to how we got where we are today, transpretenders and other lunacies abounding, I believe the most cogent explanation was offered several years ago by the essay writer Theodore Dalrymple. I can't do justice to his actual words, but the gist was that this was a most significant aspect of Communists' exercise of power: force a subject population not just to mouth an obvious lie, but compel its constant reiteration. Everyone knows it is a lie but the humiliation of having to constantly repeat and endorse it, KNOWING THAT IT IS A LIE AND THAT YOU ARE REINFORCING IT -- thus being made complicit in the lie, is the main point of the exercise. You don't have to believe it yourself, but risking your life and those of others to publically abjure the lie is quite a deterrence to free speech -- hence the Cancel Culture.

Msson G.,

I'll go ahead and say out loud what you only hint at, regarding the "lovely people as long as I steer clear of certain topics".

Their loveliness is the most superficial sort of appearance, as they sweetly and softly go about furthering the destruction of our civilization. You could quite aptly paraphrase the words of Jesus about the Pharisees regarding them.

Agreed. It seems to serve these purposes:

- Destabilizing cultural norms
- Polarizing/freezing (Alinsky rules)
- Discouraging reproduction (too many of the wrong kind of people is doubleplus ungood)
- Coercion of the new norm, i.e., enforced Newspeak.

It's as if '1984' were a how-to manual.

It's already been tried, in Kiel, Wisconsin. Kiel, Wisconsin school district charges kids for using wrong pronouns

Criminal charges were filed for sexual harassment under Title IX against three eighth graders for refusing to refer to a classmate as "they." Charges were later dropped, but it's a toe in the water.

Well, because I'm not "out" to these friends of mine, I do know how they talk about conservatives and Trump supporters when they think none such are around. (We moved from this locale to Texas in summer 2016 - before we moved, these friends were quite vocal in their opinions of the other side.)

So if they're steering clear of certain topics around me, they aren't political ones. Maybe baking mixes versus scratch baking? I'm pretty passionate and perhaps not very measured on that subject.

They really are very nice, caring people, as long as politics (and the social justice aspect of politics that characterizes the educated left these days) doesn't come up.
