"Wouldn’t it be wiser to stop the madness now and just jam that Silly Putty right back under Ms. Greene’s sofa?"
That's the last sentence of "Impeach Him! No, Him! And Him, Too!" by Michelle Cottle in the NYT.

The Trump impeachments were to save democracy, but now it's madness. That's the madness.
Of all the forgotten items I've found under a sofa, Silly Putty has never been one of them. If there's a particular reason MTG has some, I didn't read far enough to see.
It never occurs to the Left that we believe Biden is guilty as vehemently as they thought Trump was guilty. I can't read someone who doesn't at least consider that possibility.
This, from the article, is simply not true: "...Republicans have repeatedly shown they would rather exploit than productively address. (House Republicans’ refusal to get serious about the bipartisan compromise their Senate counterparts have been sweating blood over is shameful.)". The "Border Security" bill does nothing to secure the border, rather it makes it more convenient for immigrants to arrive in the US unimpeded. The text of the bill was released on a Sunday (of course), and it is even worse than advertised. Immigrants even get free legal assistance with their phony asylum claims!
Yes, the Biden impeachment folly is built on a steaming pile of unsubstantiated charges and fever dreams sprung from the House’s conspiracy caucus.
They have the receipts. What was unsubstantiated and turned out to be false was the notion Hunter Biden's laptop was Russian propaganda, just like the Steele Dossier was supposedly proof of Russian collusion with Trump when it was just a fake document written by someone with Democrat sympathies.
like some grimy wad of Silly Putty pulled from under Marjorie Taylor Greene’s sofa.
Maybe funny if she used Pelosi's sofa, since that were this impeach, impeach, impeach came.
The brazenness with which the Democrats are trying to pretend that they didn't already debase the impeachment process is...amusing.
I have no truck with MTG, but the illegal immigrant housing complex at the end of my street just threw up a new dormitory twice the size of the old dormitory, (no inspections or zoning of course: that only happens to citizens) and someone's using my mailbox for target practice with glass Jalisco bottles again.
Gainesville, Georgia. County, Forsyth. Draw your own conclusions. At least when they get someone pregnant, then "retire" early and move to a single-wide elsewhere, not marrying to increase the bennies, and in 11 years they have a daughter to screw, so long as they settle outside my county, where the sheriff actually enforces ICE and molestation laws, much to some of their surprise. Gwinnett county is a good bet for being sprung loos for everything from catastrophic car accidents to child rape, and they don't cooperate with ICE.
Sour, you say? It's a tradition. I can offer much more than one pretty hideous example. Even the "goodpeople" we're bringing here are generally refusing to abide by laws that you don't screw daughters and other pre-teens.
I never thought I'd live in this America. But Big Poultry will do what it wants. Enjoy your child rape chicken in every pot.
The article is wrong on so many counts - e.g. that Republicans have not put forward evidence of Biden's taking bribes - and deliberately conflates disagreement over policy with the executive branch effectively negating the legislative branch and creating its own immigration law by ignoring the existing laws that were duly passed by Congress (and signed into law by a previous President). But I don't see the metaphorical violence?
NOW they want to stop…
Personally I find an impeachment process for people who actually need impeaching to be a refreshing change of pace…
I envision Cottle lying in the cereal aisle flailing and screaming for her brand.
How many times did they impeach Trump?
My goodness that was an awful 'opinion' column. I guess that's what people are paying for though when they subscribe to the NY Times.
My wife and I have taken up Wordle and it keeps nudging me to subscribe but if that's what they are pushing, I'll say no.
I’d never heard of Michelle Cottle until today notwithstanding the fact that Althouse has blogged her before.
I suspect we will see more of this BS argument of the Left, that is, he’s being impeached for a policy difference. No, he isn’t. He’s being impeached for failing to take care that the laws are faithfully executed. That’s right in the Constitution.
I constantly see this 2 + 2 = 5 from the Left. And that’s because that’s all they’ve got. Amazingly, some people fall for it.
Cottle also claims there is no proof that Joe’s been bribed. Plenty of proof; checks, in fact. 2 + 2 = 5.
These dems are too fucked up.
1st of all.. She's confusing GUM, with Silly Putty.. Which is The True Sign of an idiot
2nd..
If policy beefs can be the basis for impeachment, just think of all the fun we could have had with the Trump administration.
Does the NYT already forget?
3rd. The reason people didn't used to impeach over policy, is because it is STUPID
Stupid.. IF you don't have the votes to convict.
Why HAVEN'T democrats impeached the Supreme Court? Because it takes 2/3rds to convict. The Only Reason
ps. Thanx for opening up the NYT for us professor
I read the first two paragraphs and wanted to gag. Once again the Commie-Pinkos exhibit zero self-awareness.
I live in the Midwest. I keep up with news but don’t read the NYT. I read this article because you shared it. I’m both bewildered and appalled by this piece. How can the author be so obtuse? On reflection, I’m sure she would say the same of me. I suppose our whole country is at an impasse, and it’s not metaphorical.
First paragraph reads:
“Just when you thought House Republicans couldn’t warp the impeachment process any more, here we are, watching them twist and stretch this weighty constitutional provision beyond all recognition — like some grimy wad of Silly Putty pulled from under Marjorie Taylor Greene’s sofa.”
Apparently Ms. Cottle is younger than 4 or she might have known about Pelosi’s abuse of the process w.r.t. Donald Trump. She certainly writes as though her mental age is 4 or thereabouts. You know, if the impeachment process cannot be used to remove an incompetent twit like Mayorkas who declined to do his job, then what’s the point of the process?
Truly the least curious people in the United States live in New York City these days.
Michelle Cottle and everyone who works at 620 Eighth Avenue (except the custodians) have criminal mentalities. Huh? you say say. They're thieves?! Perhaps, but that's not the point. Criminals enjoy exploring an advantage and abhor even odds. This is why mass murderers attack gun-free zones like public schools. Miss Cottle thinks the same way. Impeachment is a weapon she and her colleagues love when her side points it at her perceived enemy and abhors when it's pointed at her allies.
Thanks for the free access link. I didn’t even know that was possible. I have two immediate reactions: the metaphor is no clearer for having speed-read her article and boy does she employ overheated prose laced with myth nuggets (“Muslim ban”?) that Progressives love love love to recount to each other in the misinformational way they do.
---"Just think of all the fun we could have had with the Trump administration"
Really, why do you bother with this insular silliness?
I see the NYTimes is going for the "Bang the Table" defense of Secretary Mayorkas.
We are awash in never ending BS, so much here that Althouse could deconstruct for a month and just scratch the surface. A perfect example of why you can’t discuss politics with the left, they live in a different reality, or unreality.
So I reread it and no, it’s just not a good analogy with the unnecessary and distracting inclusion of Ms. Greene’s sofa. If you twist and pull Silly Putty then you’re doing what it’s designed to do and it will not become “unrecognizable” by virtue of being played with. I’m starting to think she’s not only poor at constructing analogies and marshaling facts (true facts that is) to support her premise but she’s never actually played with Silly Putty or even watched while someone else did. Only that trick they show in the commercial, where the putty is smashed onto a comic in a newspaper and peals away with a reverse image, is somewhat destructive and then only because it starts looking dirty when applied that way. At the most basic level of play Silly Putty is intended to be stretched and twisted.
Again, thank you for the link. Her article is thought provoking but not in the way that she intended. The unsaid part, where she carefully avoids any mention of the ridiculous premises on which Trump was impeached would have added more context with less stupidity. After all that is the context for what is happening now, the fact Pelosi’s House lowered the bar for impeachment to the level of a phone call asking if the Ukraine had found evidence of corruption in the Hunter-Joe-Burisma miasma. Then J6. The only post-presidential impeachment in history. Do those not bear on the current political landscape?
So when Ann finds "metaphoric violence" unsettling, it doesn't change normality.
From Lakoff and Johnson's "Metaphors We Live By," comes Argument is War:
Your claims are indefensible.
He attacked every weak point in my argument.
His criticisms were right on target.
I demolished his arguments.
I never won an argument with him.
You disagree? Okay, shoot!
If you use that strategy, he'll wipe you out.
He shot down all of my arguments.
It is important to see that we don't just talk about arguments in terms of war. We can actually win and lose arguments.
The left apparatchiks wanted Stalin and show trials to destroy Trump and the right.
They've ended up with Chernenko and prole derision.
Actually having the pro Putin wing of the GOP stall out the Republican agenda is a feature not a bug. Gridlock is a good thing... why do you think the founding fathers put so many checks and balances in the Rube Goldberg system of government?
@Temujin: Truly the least curious people in the United States live in New York City these days.
Every country becomes like that over time. Those who self-sort and gravitate to the power and prestige establishment centers (NYC, DC, San Francisco, Los Angeles, etc.) have their eyes on the prize. They often resent their own humble origins, they coin terms such as "flyover country," and they feel boundless disgust for the little people. Blind ambition plus overcompensation.
Recall "Let them eat cake" and guillotines.
Impeach the willful, lying, two-faced, leftwing bureaucrat!
Tar… feathers… rail…
“Truly the least curious people in the United States live in New York City these days.”
And then you have your Howard-types who sit around, spewing, while contemplating their own assholes.
I’d like to see a conversation between Ms Cottle and that critical thinking guy.
“ It is important to see that we don't just talk about arguments in terms of war”
The metaphor I am seeing is not war. It’s rape.
You’re jamming an object into a woman’s nether region.
Yes, a sofa lies between MTG’s underside and the object, but the use of the word jam reveals the a violent urge.

I'm a few counties south of you and it is the same all over Georgia. Also, if you read the Hall County (Gainesville, Georgia) police blotter (slightly NE of Forsyth), child molestation and rape is the number one crime for arrests each and every week. Most of those arrested are in our nation illegally. Hall County is where most of the chicken processing plants are located that employee so many of the illegal aliens. I guess they are just raping the children that American citizens refuse to rape.
It’s like saying “Stick it up your ass.”
We live in a society when the majority of people get their news from fake headlines. Pretty doomed since the headlines are controlled by the communist democrat party.
It is laughable that the democrats now consider impeachment solemn. I can only surmise that like the rest of our doj/fbi system, it is only solemn when a democrat is being accused.
And it’s supposed to be funny because it’s aimed at a conservative woman.
Allowing 8 million illegal aliens into the country has awfully serious economic, social, political, and military consequences. Under current precedent, nobody has legal standing to judicially compel enforcement of the laws by the executive branch. What are we, the people, supposed to do? Revolt? Impeach? Vote?
I wish we had a better choice than Trump, but it must be increasingly apparent that, flaws and all, he'll harm us a lot less than the Dems.
Anyone supporting that immigration bill is an ACTUAL traitor.
Didn't Democrats impeach Trump (falsely) based on the very same charge that Biden openly bragged about — threatening to withhold funding to Ukraine unless they fire the prosecutor (who was investigating the famously corrupt company that had hired Biden's son to the board of directors). Democrats thought that was justified. Why not now?
...just jam that Silly Putty right back under Ms. Greene’s sofa?
Is is the 'Silly Putty under MTG's sofa' the new mayonnaise jar under Funk & Wagnalls' porch?
As for Mayorkas...
Is this where we're supposed to cite violations of federal criminal statutes, again, to no reply or rebuttal?
---You’re jamming an object into a woman’s nether region.
It's pretty bad writing. She goes from tarnish to dumpster fire in successive sentences. But I don't see this business you're describing in there at all.
It never occurs to the Left that we believe Biden is guilty as vehemently as they thought Trump was guilty.
Geez, I hope we believe that Biden is guilty more than that! I don't think Pelosi and Schumer et al ever really believed Trump was guilty of anything, they just thought he was a threat to their power.
Mike (MJB Wolf):
You really need to review your facts. The first Trump impeachment involved his withholding of Congressional funds already approved for dispersal to Ukraine which would be released in exchange for a fake claim that Biden made money because his son worked for Burisma. This call occurred because Guliani couldn't find real or made-up evidence against Papa Joe (and no evidence has ever been found). That perfect phone call was an offer of bribery.
As for the January 6 incident, Trump was serving as president when he attempted his coup. Now as a past president, he has been found liable by multiple grand juries for 91 misdeeds under the law.
How does the saying go? Don't start nuthin', won't be nuthin'.
What is missing, and what is needed, is the other part. The part that discourages any notions of further transgression.
What the media outlets catering to affluent liberals do, similar to what Bill Maher does, or those late night 'comedians' do is operate on the same dynamic as the old-time minstrel shows. It's a favored group derisively laughing at disfavored groups by doing invidious interpretations of the actions and cultures of the disfavored group, all the while the favored groups are treated to a generous dose of dopamine from each leg tingling frisson of imagined superiority they get from it.
Colbert's show may as well have been done in black face, since the whole premise was that he was pretending, with a big and obvious wink to his audience, to be a conservative. A minstrel show.
It’s like saying “Stick it up your ass.” And it’s supposed to be funny because it’s aimed at a conservative woman.
Glad her writing is so poor that I missed that. So retrieving the Silly putty was representing "pulling it out of her ass?" Damn. Cottle's writing gets grosser the closer it's examined.
Howard is still mad at Putin because Hillary told him, without evidence, that Putin stole the election from Hillary. For this crime, we must suffer WWIII.
LOL! It is hilarious to watch the Left melt down over this- it is always hilarious to watch someone hoisted on their own petards.
The more the American people come to see impeachment as just another base political weapon, the less seriously they will take it — and, by extension, the less seriously they will regard Mr. Trump’s inglorious achievement as the only U.S. president to be impeached twice.
If everyone is tarnished by impeachment, then nobody is.
I’m not entirely sure that I understand the full scope of the word, gaslighting, but this recent effort of the lefties to insist that I haven’t witnessed what I had thought for sure I had seen when they ran the House sure feels like gaslighting on a large MIB scale with that flasher thingie.
- Krumhorn
I still say jam it back in Pelosi bottom, alas that was the time to stop the madness, and they were warned at the time. Alas, they set the bar and these are the new rules, except there seems to be a bit more substantiated evidence against Biden.
the Left has been talking about raping conservative women, or anyone they dislike, for a long time.
Rememeber, when "Comedian" Sandra Bernhard "Joked" about her black boyfriends raping Sarah Palin if she came to NYC? Its like the Murder of Ashli Babbitt, violence done to women they hate, is A-OK with the liberal/left.
As for rest of the article, its childish and tedious. Its amazing the how the MSM Just ignores reality and recent history and pretends what the R's are doing now is terrible when just yesterday they were cheeleading for the D's doing the same thing. Just more evidence the MSM is a propaganda machine and not news.

So, it is duty of every Cabinet Officer to implement the policy decisions of the President. I didn’t know that. I thought their duty was to implement the laws of the United States as enacted by Congress. Does the NYT possess a copy of the Constitution for Ms. cattle to read?
G-Pub
Rape, yes. But it's not rape-rape. h/t Whoopi. It's a back... black hole... whore. h/t NAACP It's social progress, which is a forward-looking construct that cannot possibly be a "burden" h/t Obama... uh, burden, to a woman.
She only has three ‘him’ what need to be impeached. A couple dozen more and you’ll be in the ballpark…
So what if he were being impeached for a policy difference,’ you democrats didn’t think there were actual rules anymore after the last 7 years do you. Sod off, if you want to stop it then stop it, but I won’t stop retaliating because you all of a sudden supposedly have a conscience or honor, you do not have either. So wail away.
In the immortal words of Inspector Gerard of the fugitive “I don’t care!”
The word "decimate" arises from the Roman Legion's practice of killing every 10th man in a unit that did not perform their duty in combat, to encourage the others. While rather brutal, there are few reports of recidivism among the remaining 90% (and none among the 10% executed).
Tossing a Cabinet member for completely failing to do their job is an idea so crazy it just might work. At least it would stop that person from doing that job so poorly. And it might encourage the others, too.
Sorry, there was no need to try to decode that line if it required reading past the first disingenuous sentence. Yeah, it was the Republicans who warped the impeachment process by impeaching the president over a phone call, ignoring the warnings that it would be used against them during the next presidency.
See you next Tuesday Michelle.
Mayorkas is a liar and a lawbreaker who deserves to be impeached, but it is a bad move politically. It looks like retaliation.
I don't think the NYT is hoping for grownups in government. So many comments are from the delusional partisans to whom the paper caters. The Times' game is perpetuating the delusions. If it were not, they would have editorialized in favor of impeaching Mayorkas.
JournoLism is a scripted article of consensus.
What "free access link"?
The link in your first paragraph just goes to the regular times link, or the article fades out after the first few paragraphs.
"I made a free access link, in case you feel motivated to decode the quote."
It works. I have to wonder who thought that photo was helpful to the pro-Mayorkas agenda. And, I noticed that Cottle is none too attractive herself, especially considering that her photo is probably ten years out of date. So, thanks, I guess. You didn't have to pay for it, did you?
She wrote many words, but sure didn't say much substantively. Gotta love such thorough analysis.
Allowing 8 million illegal aliens into the country has awfully serious economic, social, political, and military consequences.
Those 8 million illegal aliens make up more people than all but 12 states, and more than the smallest seven combined. Just to put this into perspective.
Also, there are already immigration laws in place - it is not an area in which Congress has not already spoken, so the notion that the Republicans have some obligation to pass border control legislation is false. What Biden is really doing is refusing to enforce those laws as leverage to obtain new, different border control laws that he cannot achieve legislatively.
Nice country here, be a shame if something were to happen to it...
Here's some of the secretary's work... or dereliction.

Let's see impeachment of Bill Clinton failure he becomes more popular. Impeachment of trump twice, failure, he becomes more popular.
Now the Republicans are impeaching the ham sandwich in charge of the Patriot act.
Monkey see monkey do, stupid is as stupid does
Funny since shes beem swatted seven times
The collective liar obedient loyal left do not merely subscribe to their own lies - they actually believe them.
I constantly see this 2 + 2 = 5 from the Left.
They've been edging up to it for awhile. Now its fully here in plain sight. Humorous if your name's not Winston, but if it is you're screwed.
Agree with Yancey - The collective liar left in full rage and melt down mode.
LOL.
Leftists - you ruined our nation. Eat sh*t.
"Wouldn’t it be wiser to stop the madness now and just jam that Silly Putty right back under Ms. Greene’s sofa?"
The stupidity of the Left, in one brief sentence.
No, moron, you dont' get to stuff the genie back into the bottle once you let it out. That's why you dont' start things in teh first place.
Are you all just really so completely, fundamentally, stupid that you don't understand that?
Are you all just really such vicious monsters that the idea that your opponents are human beings with their own agency, and that therefore they're going to do unto to you what you do unto to them, just never even occurs to you?
Gadfly said,
"It is important to see that we don't just talk about arguments in terms of war. We can actually win and lose arguments."
It would be helpful to have some facts laced in there somewhere.
gadfly Mike (MJB Wolf), You really need to review your facts. The first Trump impeachment involved his withholding of Congressional funds already approved for dispersal to Ukraine...
As for the January 6 incident, Trump was serving as president when he attempted his coup. Now as a past president, he has been found liable by multiple grand juries for 91 misdeeds under the law.
I need to review MY facts? How about we just rely on the actual events then? Trump did NOT withhold the funds, he asked about withholding them in a way that idiots like you have twisted into a request that was not made nor obeyed. IN FACT Ukraine got the money on time. And most sentient people are aware that Biden has actually delayed and denied aid to Ukraine over and over. Check out what his first day XOs did to those "Congressionally authorized funds" to which you refer ignorantly.
This fragment of your "argument" is especially savory: "he has been found liable by multiple grand juries for 91 misdeeds under the law." So you don't know what Grand Juries do, you don't really know what they did, and in your small mind Trump has been found guilty (although your weasel words "misdeeds" and "liable" might indicate that somewhere back in your noggin you can't say this is certain) without a trial* even being concluded. Don't you Progressives ever learn to "check your facts" (to coin a phrase) after talking with your fellow Know Nothings? Relying on rumor, innuendo and DNC myths is no way to go through life.
*As frosting on the cake, let's consider that stupid second impeachment a "trial" and waddyaknow, Trump was akshelly found NOT GUILTY. So using our higher math skills that adds up to...ZERO convictions for any criminal charge.
things seem to be getting pretty dicey for the dems..
NBC News Poll: GOP Leads Dems on Generic '24 Ballot
When asked which party they preferred to see win control of the Congress in November, 49% of respondents said Republicans and 45% said Democrats, the latest NBC News survey found.
that's a 4 point lead! That is NEARLY greater than the (usual) margin of fraud.
Looks like, in order for the dems to pull it off; they'll need to cheat EVEN More than Usual
Allowing 8 million illegal aliens into the country has awfully serious economic, social, political, and military consequences.
8 million is what? nearly EIGHT Times the entire strength of the US Army?
Rome.. Meet the Huns
"Are you all just really such vicious monsters that the idea that your opponents are human beings with their own agency, and that therefore they're going to do unto to you what you do unto to them, just never even occurs to you?"
They think they'll pull off this immigration swindle and cement one party rule; they see themselves as a boot stomping on a human face, forever, and they're intoxicated at the prospect.
Proverbs 26:27 "and he that rolleth a stone, it shall return to him."
In plain English..What goes around... comes around.
Reap what you sow and tough f*cking nuts.
Impeach the bastard.
Nicole said: "I suppose our whole country is at an impasse, and it’s not metaphorical."
I have been arguing for over two decades what was the US ended when it became clear the press was willing to continue the falsehood of GW Bush being placed into office by the SCOTUS when it was clear the hanging chad crowd was willing to steal and/or manufacture votes. The situation has only become much worse since.
Pieces like this in the NYT only highlight the anything but metaphoric impasse we face. Some form of national divorce based on irreconcilable differences is long overdue. Question is, can we do it without violence? (Fingers crossed we can.)
Would I rather have a bottle in front of me
Than watch an illegal throttle Cottle with a lot ‘o glee?
If something can’t continue until November, it won’t. Time for Michelle to move up the schedule to before the convention (possibly with a big scoop of Taylor Swift support, but everyone loves her, can she stand to make half the parents in the US dislike her?) Michelle can hate on Israel and get the college kids and muslims, and black women, probably not black men, back in the cult. But the Republicans are feeling more powerful as time goes on. If Michelle does not come out before the convention the streets of Chicago will be a pr disaster worse than ‘68.
And Hillary is tanned, rested, and ready. I would love to see the battle of the woman communists on tv.
Gadlfy, no money was delayed to Ukraine. None of it. The impeachment was because Democrats claimed Trump made a quid pro quo out of the funding. Actually the first Trump impeachment hearing out of committee simply said they were impeaching because they had the political authority to do so. Biden this year tried to get a quid pro quo for Ukraine funding by tying it to border security. These are the rules you wanted. At least Republicans are using better arguments than you keep making here.
As for Mayorkas, the Senate Bill basically broadcasts that they want more of what Mayorkas has been selling which is an invasion of 1.8 million illegal border crossings a year with the ability for a President to declare an emergency and allow much more. This is why elections are more important than impeachments and why Trump leads in the polls.
Ok I broke down and read the piece. It’s typical NYT left wing bubble talking point and Trump hatred. Here’s my favorite line:
“By putting the secretary through an impeachment inquiry, Donald Trump’s congressional team is putting Mr. Biden’s border record on trial in the midst of a high-stakes presidential contest.”
Donald Trump’s Congressional Team? Ok. Whatevs.
I also like the part where she claims she doesn’t like the Biden Admin’s handling of the border crisis either, but chalks it up to (as is typical ) some sort of combination of fumbling, lack of communication about the issue so people don’t really understand how hard they’re working to fix a problem the MAGA-heads created.
But hey, we should all listen to Michelle. She’s been covering Washington “since the Clinton administration.” Totes, guys.
I appreciate the opportunity for a free read. I regret that I read it however.
What a diatribe masquerading as opinion. Yikes. I did not finish reading it.
I would not want the writer as a neighbor.
If the free access link — "gift" link — doesn't work, let me know and I'll stop bothering to try to use it.
They purport to let you make 10 "gift" links a month.
Maybe it only works once and I can't give the link to multiple people.
Maybe it only works once
It worked for me on my phone.
Wouldn't it be wiser if a giant sinkhole were to appear in Manhattan? And the building of the Gray Lady and its occupants simply disappeared. Or at least were muted. That's what the left wants to do, has been doing to the right. And as the playground taunt goes, What Goes Around Comes Around. You change the rules, don't whine when the rule changes come around to bite you in the backside. Didn't our new "Light" Worker say "punch back twice as hard"?
Meanwhile--and just to prove that it's equally as silly as the New York Times, today's Los Angeles Times has an op ed piece saying that California could balance its state budget by releasing all prisoners from the state prisoner system. No need to keep giving those frisky felons three hots and a cot. Turn them loose and let them forage for subsistence on the civilian population.
"I find the metaphoric violence unsettling."
But that's SOP for the left. Modus operandi.
"gift" link worked OK for me. TY.
Your gift link still works for me.
Link worked for me. There's a banner at the bottom that says:
"Shared with you by a Times subscriber.
You have access to this article thanks to someone you know.
Keep exploring The Times with a free account. "
"It would indeed be a major scandal if a vice president abused his office — taking bribes, even — to enrich himself and his family. House Republicans have yet to produce evidence that Mr. Biden did anything of the sort. But if ever they do, it will be wild times for sure!"
Pretty big window she left open. The rant reeks of flop sweat.
Gift link worked once but I didn't try it again in case it would lock the access.
The link worked for me, so not a one off thing.
“By putting the secretary through an impeachment inquiry, Donald Trump’s congressional team is putting Mr. Biden’s border record on trial in the midst of a high-stakes presidential contest.”
And the problem with that is?
If "Mr. Biden’s border record" (I wonder why he's not "President Biden"?) is bad and hurting the country, why shouldn't it be "put on trial in the midst of a high-stakes presidential contest"? Oh, that's right, the NYT isn't in favor of informing voters.
If there's nothing wrong with "Mr. Biden’s border record", then "putting Mr. Biden’s border record on trial" should help Mr. Biden's re-election campaign, no.
It's like you have to get a lobotomy in order to be allowed to write for the NYT
Howard said...
Actually having the pro Putin wing of the GOP
There's Howard, once again projecting on the Right what is actually on the Left.
Or did the Biden Admin not just do Putin a huge favor by blocking expansion of US LNG to Europe, thus leaving them to buy from Putin?
Do you EVER bother to think before you write, Howard?
He looks like Benito Mayorkaslini in that picture. Arrogant unaccountability personified!
Stephen Colbert and his “Late Show” team came up with a joke so bawdy, they couldn’t even show it on TV. And it was aimed at Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) or, as Colbert called her, the “cursed doll fashioned from silly putty and hate.”
- From Oct. '22.
I think that is a reference to her complexion and somewhat puffy face. How Cottle turned it into a rape dildo, I don't know. Possibly from personal experience.
Next week - "Those Slinky Republicans and the Clacker Superball Trumpsters."
Note at 4:07 EST the free link still works. This time I opened it on my laptop.
Yes it does start to load the "log in or subscribe" script but quickly relaces the fade-out text with the whole article. IMO it provided for a rather detailed and lively Fisking/group discussion. Those us not regularly exposed to the full NYT article were properly shocked by the low quality of the writing, which was only surpassed by the cognitive dissonance of her "reasoning."
Substance aside, Cottle is really a terrible writer. She has mixed so many metaphors and uses such a weird folksy tone, that it's hard to see the forest for the cheese.
They slow walked the Ukraine charges on Hunter so it escaped the statute of limitations.
They think this proves Biden isn't guilty.
I think it actually proves he was.
Ewe have to Slut Walk a cuntry mile through a back... black hole... whore to reach the sophist's sofa in urbane euphemisms.
People - stop worrying about the "gift" link working or not, and while you're at it, stop prefacing your posts with "Couldn't access the article but..."
Just use https://archive.ph/ , read the article, and get on with your posting.

Allowing 8 million illegal aliens into the country has awfully serious economic, social, political, and military consequences.”
The senate bill codifies 1.8 million illegal aliens per YEAR!!! Per YEAR!!! Anyone supporting this bill is a an actual traitor to this country. How can you allow 0.5% of the population to be imported EVERY YEAR! In 45 years you would replace a quarter of the country.
Literal traitors.
Looking at the Senate Bill, I think we can see the establishments game. They don’t need a bill to secure the border that’s already supposed to be closed. They need a bill that makes it permanently open before Trump becomes President. It codifies a minimum acceptable level of illegal crossings at 1.8 million a year. This is despite polls showing the majority of Americans by a large margin, and the more people have to deal with these absurd numbers of illegal border crossers, the more they want to put a stop to it. The only thing stopping them is a small majority in the House, and if McCarthy was still Speaker, you can bet the non-border Republicans would vote open borders to become the law.
Thank you, CSF.
We have the largest population of illegal immigrants in the country per zip code.
Surprising? Not to me. Those of us in rape crisis are dissuaded from tackling minor-age rape cases here.
What do you think of that, Ann? That we're supposed to normalize this, Ann?
Jesus fucking wept. I encourage you to read some of the trial transcripts. You have Lexus.
You also have a platform. Do some fucking thing about it.
If Mayorkas/Biden simply started enforcing the law and controlling the border (instead of saying "We can't do anything and it's the Republicans' fault") the Republican impeachment would be a political failure.
It won't be, because Biden/Mayorkas own the border disaster. And the purpose of this impeachment is to show the American public, which isn't particularly fond of either party but wants the damn border fixed (and doesn't think it's all that hard to do, because every other country in the world does it, and there are things like walls and helicopters and the National Guard which can be deployed by the wealthiest nation on Earth) that the Biden Administration has actively and enthusiastically created and promoted the invasion.
I think Leland might well have unraveled the mystery of this bill. Now, I don't think Trump will be allowed to win no matter how many votes he gets, but this bill might well be an attempt to tie his hands should he by some miracle actually take office again. The courts would certainly use its existence as an excuse to block any attempt to reduce the flow of illegals into the country.
Greg: "Or did the Biden Admin not just do Putin a huge favor by blocking expansion of US LNG to Europe, thus leaving them to buy from Putin?"
Howard's entire middle school schtick is to take whatever the New Soviet Democraticals have done historically and what they are doing now and simply declare its the republicans.
Slavery, Jim Crow, segregation,...all the way to obamacare (yes, Howard really did claim republicans "owned" obamacare) with the Putin projections being the most recent and pathetic.
Howard gonna Howard...but only every time.
"Unexpectedly".
