If the bees love it it probably reflects a lot of light in the UV spectrum.

That's a very private and cozy spot for the bumbles to do their thing.It's very grounding and sanity producing to see nature in action.

The bee inside was struggling desperately to get out. Probably the early evolution of the Venus flytrap looked like that.

I have two rosa rugosa in my back garden. The bees absolutely adore them, and their fragrance is intense. They're hardy and easily deal with sea spray and fog conditions. They're also known as beach roses and in the fall will produce excellent rose hips which can be used to make jelly. I've found that they respond well to a good pruning halfway through the summer, so as to encourage new growth and another round of blooms. And now with the Amaryllis Bella Donna coming into flower, it's serious pink on pink action.
The hell.
I need a cigarette after that buzzing.

I’ve always wanted roses, but I thought they might be fussy, high end assets. I’ve a friend who picks wild rose petals and makes a jelly w/those. It’s a weird sensation- eating that jelly. It smells like Avon soap, but tastes like perfumed perfection.

Don't fear the roses! I've always found them to be really easy to take care of. Learn how to prune them and they bring joy all summer long. Entice ladybugs into the garden for any aphid problems, and - I can't remember what I did about powdery mildew... I live in the Houston area now and don't do roses because it's so dang hot in the summer that I can't be bothered to do the pruning; others in my neighborhood have beautiful roses. But I always loved having them in other places.
