As you can see in picture #3, I had a lot of company this morning. University students, I presume. There's lots of graduation activity in Madison today. Maybe these kids had been out all night, because they were firmly in place when I arrived at the location at 5:25. I wasn't trying to eavesdrop on them. I had AirPods in and music playing, but I couldn't help picking up that they were snacking on Cinnamon Toast Cheerios and discussing other cereals — specifically Cap'n Crunch and Lucky Charms.

Speaking of lucky and music and the sun, as I write this, I'm listening to...

My graduation was back when school still ended in June. It was so nice on campus by then. Not cold and windy like it is now.

But everyone got in such a big freaking hurry.

We've had record heat for the last few days here in Madison. Today was better, but it's been kind of annoying, because otherwise, April and May have been unusually cold — like in the 40s. But then we had 3 days where it hit 90. I like lots of days in the 50s and 60s, and it looks like we're going back to that.

As I understand the workings of SCOTUS, the drafts served to circulate ideas. If you think an unpopular idea might get leaked, would you put it in circulation and hope and pray it won't get leaked?

Self-censorship is the worse form of censorship.

When the ends justify the means, not even presidential elections are sacred.

There was a "Monday morning beer for breakfast" group in my college eating house one year. The hard core put it on cereal. Not sugary kids' cereal, either, grown-up cereal.

May in Pugetopolis is usually sunny and warm, with temperatures in the 80's at times. It's a prelude to summer, followed by June Gloom, where the weather reverts back to cool and cloudy. This year, it's been colder and rainier than normal. We'd get a couple of pleasant days in a row, to be followed by many days of rain. Snow plows were operating in US 101, near Lake Pleasant. The elevation there is only 400-ft!

CO2 does not cause "Climate Change." That's reserved to the sun, the Earth's orbital and inclination characteristics and the ocean currents. The climate models run hot. James Hansen modeled climate on Venus before he started modeling it here. He's fixated on CO2 because that's all he knows. CO2 is his hammer and all weather deviations are his nails to be pounded down by his hammer.

Totally inappropriate for a Judge to speak in front of this groups just like it would be inappropriate for Sonia to speak in front of a liberal group.

Congress and Roberts need to crack down on this significant appearance of bias.

The great conservative jurist John Harlan (He wrote the opinion in Clay v US-Ali's draft case) would not even vote because he did not want to indicate any political bias. Thomas doesn't understand this basic principle of jurisprudence.

if drafts are treated a la work in progress = which academics pass around = for input from colleagues = may be the best practice is to be open all the way in the future.

so far what seems missing is response from the other justices to Alito's WIP.

and that is something I would be interested in seeing.

I heard the state of Iowa climatologist on the noon farm show last week. Said Iowa had the coldest April in 150 years.
Track night time lows, not daytime highs. You can add 20F to the night time low for the daytime high and wont be off far, absent fronts moving through.

Buffalo shooter had Ukrainian Nazi symbol on his manifesto. NZ shooter he copycatted trained in Ukraine. But the liberals assure me that these Nazis are good ones and that the US is not compromising its values by adopting them.

Twitter is already banning people who point to evidence that the shooter has strong links to the Ukrainian white supremacists.

Then YOU must have REALLY hated Ruth Bader Ginsburg. She spoke in front of liberal groups all the time when she was alive.

I save the sunrises for the morning- pretending I am there. Today we have a soaking rain. Much, much needed.

The grass is growing!! Yay!!
It means more to a farmer than anyone else could know.

Funny thing, jaydub, but the fighting is now on the Uke side of the river, suggesting that the Russians crossed it and hold the bridgehead. Weapons we are sending are just dragging out the war and costing Ukrainian lives, no matter what Uke/CIA agitprop you might be reading. Many of those destroyed "Russian tanks" were units that the Ukrainians use, and Russia no longer does. There was certainly heavy fighting there, and both sides took casualties, but the outcome was that the Russians won the battle and hold the ground.

King County sent out property valuations this week. Our property valuation went up 32%. The Seattle Times story reported:

"Home values are up all over the county, but particularly in Eastside areas such as Redmond (43% on average), Woodinville (44%) and Kirkland (44.5%). The Sammamish Plateau topped the list with a 52% increase from the previous year. That’s double the still eye-popping 26% increase in Federal Way."

Tim I get most of my daily info from The Institute for the Study of War, a non partisan think tank that is widely respected in the military circles of which I am a part. It publishes a daily sitrep on Ukraine under the site "Understandingwar.org" and it provides detailed analysis, including receipts, maps and conflict hotspots. The biographies and qualifications of the analysts are listed and available if you want to review. Try reading the daily analysis (the 14 May entry, interalia details the aborted river crossing) including the drop down which provides the specific details supporting the analysis summary, just click on the summary to get the detail. You can walk back day by day to 24 Feb if you want to see what the quality of their analysis looks like as well as the reliability of their reporting.
