At the Sunrise Café, you can talk about whatever you like.

It was a clear, bright sunrise:

I liked this hot-and-cold look — sunrise light on red and orange branches and — in the foreground — dead things with powdered-sugar snow.

The scilla that invaded long ago is a pleasant enough guest, good enough to bloom earlier than anything else in our garden:

The concrete strike in King County is over. The union is calling the strike off without any resolution. They'll keep talking to the companies.

Why? Why? Why? Do servers at a steakhouse bring your appetizers and salads at the same damn time? I realize it’s a first world problem but why don’t they understand the pacing of a meal?

I notice (on 40m) some Russian ham contest. I heard contacts between Russians, and Eastern Europeans and Russians. Nobody else calling them that I heard.

Because some might consider salads to be appetizers?

Of course, they could always bring the salad AFTER the main course.

Watching the episode of Breaking Bad where Skylar's crooked boss receives a visit from some guys and finally signs the check to the IRS. Then he tries to run away, trips on a rug, and slams his head into the counter.

Killing him and causing a bowl of oranges to spill.

The oranges. Again. Nice cinematic touch.

Most US steakhouses use what's called a static menu where items are grouped into categories with headings like "Appetizers", "Sandwiches", "Steaks & Chops", "Seafood", etc. In such restaurants, meals are most often served in three courses: appetizers/starters, main courses, desserts. They usually bring the first course stuff (e.g. soup, salad, appetizer, etc.) so that all the guests are eating at the same time. The exception would be if everyone at the table was having a salad. In that case, they should be brought after the appetizers.

All that said, if you prefer the courses paced a certain way, just tell the server. And if that doesn't work, just wait until after you've finished your appetizers before ordering the rest of your meal.

I was in a marsh counting cranes at sunrise. We recorded 88 in our little group. I recorded 26.

Aha moment : “They/them” being third person singular eliminates the indefinite gender problem when using hypotheticals. The sentence, “A person who got a 5% raise in 2022 is still seeing their purchasing power erode” no longer has a grammatical inconsistency.

When life gives one lemons, they should make lemonade.

Because they're not dirty Russki lovers that's why!

Until the Russians came along, everybody served all courses simultaneously. Only a Putin apologist would continue to eat in separate courses.

Watched MLK/FBI documentary. Based on David Garrow book. Made me again impatient to see the publication of the final(?) volume of Robert Caro's LBJ bio. Coming on 10 years next month since the publication of the last volume.

Last year Romney voted against KBJ for a position as a federal trial judge. All he had to do was hear she was soft on child pr0n and he raced to confirm her as a Supreme Court judge. OK groomer.

Almost all the botanists say Scilla is invasive and should be eradicated. Grass is invasive. It spreads. I planted Scilla in my lawn and encourage it to spread. Same with white clover.

When Stelter finally loses his job it will be for us what VE Day or VJ Day was to our parents or grandparents.

Or maybe it will be like Baghdad Bob getting his and Fauci falling will be VE Day or VJ Day.

It would be nice if Trump could capitalize on finally being the boring, competent one in comparison to Biden, but I fear that he is too set in his ways and too thirsty for attention to do so.

The facts are true. The motivation is speculation.
